- Curly hair product battle of two of the best curly hair products for natural hair, aveda be curly vs devacurl curly hair product line. I get questions all the time regarding which curly hair products are my favourite and which do brand do I prefer better - Devacurl or Aveda Be Curly. So in this video, so I tried BOTH on my head SIMULTANEOUSLY, by splitting my hair in half and applying each curly hair product line to each side of my head, to see which would survive longest on my head and look better.

the Aveda side is better. The curl definition looked more consistent on the Aveda side, whereas the Diva side had several stretched out curls.

I don't usually watch curly hair videos all the way through. I've watched all of a few of Curly Penny's videos, but that was a while ago. This was a lot of fun to watch and you cut straight to the point and didn't drag anything out. I really enjoyed it! Plus, I just found out that Aveda is now cruelty free so I may have to try their products!

Yep. Mine loses curl and just gets fuzzy. My day 2 looks like it wasn't washed for a week lol and with this 100 degree heat and 80% humidity lately, even on the same day of washing it looks like it was never styled :[ . Her hair is amazing!

Love the softness of the Deva side. But both look great.
Loved the video and that kind of comparison. So 2 thing: 1). Choosing your final product to use would depend on price since they both do the same thing. 2) The ONLY thing that may have slightly skewed your results is not using the same hair dryer on both sides since Dyson is a far superior product (that is if you like Dyson which I LOVE mine). I wish my hair could go 3 days without washing but since I wear so much product to keep the curls (i have to CURL myself) there is no really way to refresh. Loved the video.

Thatâs really cool that you like both lines. I personally like to switch off shampoo and conditioner every three months or so to refresh my hair. I already know from one of your videos that Iâm getting a cut and the Diva Curl products. Itâs good to know of another brand to try out too. I was going to get the Framesi Color Curl shampoo and conditioner and also their Curl Pudding. I havenât bought anything yet and I havenât even seen any reviews on the Framesi so I may go with your suggestion first. Thank you đđ

Having used deva curl before starting your videos, and my curls are kind of like yours...I have to say Iâm liking Aveda line better. Like you said, itâs more light weight. Deva curl I hated the gel. Itâs made my hair look stringy. I could only go two days. Aveda....â€ïž I have gone 4 days! with a finger coil day one after washing. Only refreshed with water and curl refresher spray by Aussie one of those days. Flew on an airplane! Went to a partyđș in those four days! And the curls were popping every day. Day 5 I washed my hair only cuz at this party there was smoke from a fire pit and my hair smelled bad. But the curls were good.

Your curls are amazing. I gotta think it really doesn't matter what you use. My beef with Deva is that it makes my scalp itch. I went to an Aveda stylist who did a twist of strands and then cut up the strand. Jury is still out on that method but at least I know I can try the products if I ever go back. Maybe they won't make my scalp itch.

I just started my curly hair journey, and I started a month ago with a grown out pixie cut. Would you have some recommendation for really short hair ? (I have like 2b almost 3b curls with low porosity). And also do you have any advice for the scalp showing ? I fluff and dry my hair upside down, but style my roots are really visible. Does a thikening product would help ? or volumasing ?

I preferred the Aveda side because of the volume. Iâve tried Aveda and Devacurl myself (albeit not the exact products you used here). I prefer the Aveda line for my hair (becurly style prep and phomollient).
I liked Deva just a little more. The curls looks softer and moisturized. Both look fantastic though! I think a way to pick a product is to compare affordability!

I wished you would have done this video with using the same diffuser. I went to get a deva cut and they donât like the deva diffuser she used a regular one.
Hi so my curls can be really tight and coily under the perfect conditions but I tend to struggle to achieve this mainly due to damage . I've only used the aveda products which I love but do you think divacurl would incerouge my curls better?

So my question is about the links to the products that you provide. As a hairdresser you have access to a lot of these products. Do you use the ones you get from the salon or do you actually purchase the ones from amazon that you linked above? The reason I ask is that a lot of hairdressers say that amazon named brand products are watered down or out of date or have been replaced with inferior products. So have you used and had good results with the ones you linked or do you get yours from the salon?

and Aveda products are compatible? I got the Aveda brilliant damage control spray to use for my prep > DC supercream > DC light defining gel > diffuse > Aveda dry remedy oil for finishing. Can you please do a 10 min morning routine for before work. I can only spare 10mins in the morning on my hair after a shower before work. Which is why I always had mg hair permanently straightened but my curls have grown out and I would like to try for the 1000th time to embrace my natural curls.

You are hilarious! I love your hair too, I have beach like waves in fine hair and I am in the process of trying to find what works for me. Have you tried home made flax seed gel, I am using it at the moment and for my fine hair it is ok not too heavy. Keep up the great work đ
Aveda has a flax seed liquid gel! Mel uses the confixer but they also have flax seed!

What is your take on Oiudad products? I tried to switch to Devacurl but it turns my curls into kinky curls. Where my curls are more spiral using Oiudad? Am I using wrong Devacurl products?
I've tried Deva and liked it...the first time I used it...but the second and third time it seemed as if there was some sort of "build up" that I didn't like . Maybe you could do a video on that aspect of the two lines?
I had no idea I had 2b - 2c hair until a week and a half ago. My hair has been pin-straight pretty much my whole life but had a lot of frizz. I was visiting my cousins in Indianapolis and was out of my own shampoo and conditioner. She said I could use hers and it wouldn't be a big deal. After I got out of the shower, I had waves in my hair and was very confused, to say the least... I currently stumbled upon this video and am now gonna order some because I remembered how good it worked for my hair.

Mel, love your videos! So helpful and fun to watch:) I noticed the Aveda curl cream and repair treatment have silicones in them. Do you get buildup from this? Do you shampoo to remove them or co-wash?
I always make sure to shampoo my hair once a week to prevent product build up! I think its important for everyone đ
Also aveda uses naturally derived silicone so it doesnât create the same build up as drugstore sh + co all plant based and natural
