I loved Lootera then and was baffled when audiences didn't like it. It is one of Ranveer's best performance. The music of Amit Trivedi was gold and I still listen to this soundtrack. Top class performances, direction, background score and cinematography. Absolute masterpiece

For me it is Ranveer Singh's best performance to date. I never could have in my wildest dreams imagined him as the quiet, sly and emotional Varun. Ranveer is a really energetic person and to see him pull off such a character was unimaginable for me. Ever since Lootera I have wanted to see Ranveer play a role like this again!

I've said it a 100000 times that Lootera is a *Masterpiece* some might find it slow but for me it's just perfect...the acting, the direction, set, DOP and the heart of this film Amit Trivedi's masterwork album...do yourself a favour and go watch this film.

My heart also broke as Anu ji said, when Ranveer says "You were the last shot at life and I let it go", it felt like Ranveer almost felt everything himself while he enacted the scene.
Ranveer is an amazing actor, no matter the flamboyance he throws in ads etc, he has a deep feeling within which is why he comes out with flying colours in roles like this, Murad (gully boy)

For me, the best part of Lootera is the ambience/environment and the music. The Dalhousie part of the story feels like a dream sequence.. The vibe, the energy, the quietness, the color palette...use of blues and greys, just perfect.
The movie didn't have a single extravagant thing - no bright neon colors, no unnecessary item numbers or rap, no overacting, no loud background score, no heavy dialogs, chase sequence isn't the usual adrenaline filled, Pakhi's sorrow and Varun's sad upbringing are not focused on in a way to invoke pity... Everything is in synch with the pace of the movie, true to the nature of the story. Slow and simmering...To perfection.

Lootera is really the most underrated movie ever. Also, Sonakshi's first and probably last film as a true heroine. I don't understand if she is capable of this, why doesn't she do more of these? What's this lust for box office success that makes her do only the action Jacksons and the dabangs. Although I feel, Ranveer wasn't the right choice for this role. His acting was not at par with Sonakshi's, & hence stuck out. The only scene I liked him was the confrontation scene with Sonakshi in the second half (almost similar to the prelude to agar tum saath ho from tamasha where Tara is trying to hold on to Ved while he is struggling to escape her clutches). Really a heartbreaking scene and performed amazingly by both Ranveer & Sonakshi- being vulnerable with each other for the first time (and I cried like a mad person in a theatre with 4 other people).
Vikrant Massey's role too was one that became the new development to typical friend roles in bwood. He was nothing like the cliche friends we've seen in hindi films before. Loved his acting. It's a pity they didn't even give him a script before the movie & yet he pulled it off so well. 👍
I think Vikramaditya Motwane is really among the best we have, sometimes I feel he is even better than Anurag, but of course it's an unpopular opinion. I haven't seen a single bad Vikramaditya movie.

Lootera! What a masterpiece movie and art! This is the type of romance I always like to see in Bollywood (like Masaan, Photograph, Pyaasa, etc.) Motawane is the legends of such types of realistic dramas (Udan). This film is just sweet poetry. I was totally surprised to see a mass actor like Ranvir Singh nailing such a soft and poetic role (and Sonakshi too). Only because of this movie, I never dislike and doubt her acting skills. And of course the Music of this film! The legend Amit Trivedi + Amitabh Bhattacharya is an absolutely epic combo in this movie. Each song is a different feeling. I can't tell how many times I have heard Manmarziya and Zinda & I still listen to them daily. "Yun to solah saavan aaye gaye, Gaur nahi kiya humne" !!! Feels sad that such underrated gems never get deserving fame. Also, please do retake for Wasseypur, Lunchbox, tamasha, Masaan etc.

    Loved this piece!
Please consider Guzaarish by Sanjay Bhansali available on Netflix- it will grow on you on second watch
The reason why it would be fit for the FC Retake segment is because-
    1. It tanked at the box office, despite getting rave reviews from few critics
    2. It is a culmination of Bhansali's best works put into one.
    3. It stars Hrithik and Aishwarya who give one of their best performances in Hindi Cinema.
    4. The second half turns into a courtroom drama with some well written and staged scenes.

Just watched lootera, i have had always heard about it as a flop and slow movie. But finally took time to watch it, i have already read O. Henry's "The last leaf " in my school days and it has been one of my favorite stories. The rendition of it into an Indian story was so beautifully done almost like an original, the movie builds up so beautifully like the innocence of a child, each scene is a piece of art in both the halves, you can just capture them as photographs and keep them, the songs hits you and rekindles your own incomplete romance. I have two favorite scenes:
    1. Pakhi asks Varun to paint leaves in her landscape but he knows nothing about painting, but he promises her that he will make his masterpiece one day, in the second half when Pakhi associates her life to the leaves of the tree, that scene was truly a masterpiece for me, made me realize it was the story of "the last leaf".
    2. When Varun tells Pakhi his real name "Atmanand Tripati" and they share a short giggle, it made me immensely happy and sad at the same time, hopeless love(romance). They both know they wont ever be together but still they continue to love eachother and cherish the moments they shared. Although its a classic tragedy movie, it brings joy to be able to experience such an art in the form of cinema. Thank you to the director Vikramaditya Motwane Sir. ❤

I had discovered Motwane quite early from his Udaan days which also I had watched in the theater and was looking for his next venture and he did not disappoint me at all. I did watch this movie in the theater and recommended all my friends to watch it too. I had discovered Vikrant Massey's acting prowess through this movie and he did a fantastic job in Dil Dhadakne Do which had a stellar cast. Quite late, I saw his performance in 'A Death in Gunj', was mind-blown by it. Some of the beautiful movies over time which has aged as fine wine or scotch (that I discovered or re-discovered are): Pyaasa, Tere Ghar Ke Saamne, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Guide, Jewel Thief (one of the best mystery thrillers for me along with Seven or Shutter Island) Safar, Amar Prem, Janne Bhi Do Yaaro, Ijaazat, Sparsh, Chasme Baddoor, Sadmaa (probably Kamal Hassan's and Sri Devi's best Hindi movie), Choti Si Baat, Saaheb, Meri Jung, Saaransh, Woh Saat Din, Chameli ki Shaadi (Anil Kapoor is another understated actor), Saajan, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Johnny Gaddar, Ek Hasina Thi (one of the best revenge dramas by a woman along with Gone Girl), Dasvadaniya, Bheja Fry, My brother, Nikhil, The Dirty Picture, Shanghai (Emraan Hashmi is another understated actor), Rangeela, Main Meri Patni, Aur Woh, Chameli, Jogger's Park, Satya, Kaun, Zubeidaa, Gangs of Wasseypur, Omkara, Haider (Both Saif and Shahid are quite understated actors), Aankho Dekhi, Udaan, Masaan, Aligarh, Paan Singh Tomar (Irfaan's best film probably along with The Namesake and Life in A metro -it's unfortunate that India's critics barring a very few also don't watch good movies), Lunchbox, The Namesake, Shahid, Sahib, Biwi aur Gangster, Ishqiya, Lakshya, Luck By Chance, Karthik Calling Karthik (Farhan Akhthar is another actor who's very understated). They should do a segment on Hollywood or Foreign movies, too and I would love to collaborate.

In 2013, fell in love. The absolutely soul crushing head over heels kind of love. The kind of love only an immature person can fall into. The songs from "Lootera" and "Aashiqui 2" were the soundtrack of that stupidly wonderful time. It all seems unreal now.

Can you address the fact that all the ‘Retake’ movies were all box office blunders.
As an avid movie watcher, we need to watch these movies in theaters for them to make money and force producers to make more of these.

Was waiting for this FC for so damn long. This movie is one of my all time favourites, besides having my favourite Ranveer performance till date. Of course, it wouldn't be what it became without that tour de force of a soundtrack by Amit Trivedi.
P.S. That should be 'eluded' in the description. Plz have it rectified.

FC team at their best, the way you break down the each aspect of movie is just amazing. I would love to watch FC retake of Dedh Ishqiya, that movie was hovering around both main stream & parallel cinema and still able to do the magic. Also has music as the character.
