VW ID. BUZZ review and family practicality test v Taycan (another £70k EV) just for fun…

  • A bit of fun here really. I try and justify having a Taycan as a practical family car as well as a long distance Gran Tourer and a track day car. The Vw ID Buzz clearly makes the more sensible practical family choice of transport but there are a couple of practicality elements I can trump simply by having roof bars.
    They’re both worth in the region of £70k so which would you have?
    But that’s not the point, it’s a quick review and walk around of the very fun and characterful new Volkswagen and we love it. It doesn’t come cheap but not much does these days and I bet you already know if you want one of these regardless of what I say 😂

    Got a Buzz Cargo on order, got to say - for the same price, not a single other electric van comes close in terms of creature comforts, range nor charging speed at all. Neither do they look as good as this 😆

    I recently took my model 3 performance to Le Mans and was amazed how much I got in it. 4 blokes, 4 tents, chairs, holdalls etc. it just swallowed it all up. Way more practical than a saloon should be. Also being so torquey, you don’t feel any weight difference. It still rips your face off out of toll booths 😂😂

    VW ID. BUZZ - body put on VW ID.4
    result below expectation
    1. cargo space is worse than in Honda City - you got hill inside
    2. front wind shield is to to short so you cannot see traffic light on crossing without making huge space upfront
    PS: For the same price I would go for Tycan as family car

  • @ISuperTed
    @ISuperTed Před rokem

    Love the looks of the Buzz and that’s what will sell it - I imagine demand will be huge even at the ridiculous prices VW want for it. However on all other measures it’s bottom is spanked particularly on range but I don’t think it will matter. It looks cool and in the volumes VW are making it will be sold out. I’d take a Model Y long range instead and save £15K.

    I apologise to the iD buzz owner the first time I see one parked in the flesh as I’ll be walking round it 😂, absolutely love it and I’ve never owned a VW or a VW fan apart for the original Mk1 Golf GTI. Absolutely the price is scary but it looks fun and so usable. The other is a Porsche and is more driver focused. If you want a beach camping holiday absolutely the Van but if your touring the highlands of Scotland at hotels or B&B’s the Porsche every day of the week - personal preference like.

    I love the Buzz, but the interior could have been so much more flexible. Not even 3 way folding seats, or the ability to slide stuff under the seats. Just look at the number of converted VW Transporters down at Mudeford Quay, there’s definitely a market.

    Did mention the Porche is actually longer? (And the same width - not the mm don't care)
    We didn't go for the Porche because it's such a poor use of space, I figured it'd be 10cm narrower but it doesn't really fit down the road we live which is.. awkward

  • @simonhobbs9097

    Great fun video Richard, couple of observations; it’s abit harsh comparing the outside space of the Taycan with the inside space of the Buzz, also why does Mrs Symons drive an ID3 and not a Tesla? Sounds like Taycans are becoming more affordable, is it time to do a video on a secondhand Taycan vs a new Model Y Performance?
