I love using Collinite 845 insulator wax and Their 325 cleaner wax. They were always a pleasure to work with and very forgiving to use. My uncle told my dad and I years ago about these wonderful products.
Another fun Monday mosh. Loved the yoyos when I was a kid. Still have a Duncan Imperial in a drawer somewhere. Kudos on the flag pole. We need as many people flying the flag as we can get these days.
Getting a gate up to keep all the fans out? Thank goodness you've showed that wax just now because I was, at this very moment, in the process of ordering some Mother's Mag polish because I thought I remembered that was what you put on your tools for protection. Anyways, hope you'll have a great week!
Loved the torch restoration. I remember when in the Army you needed a red filter to maintain your night vision. If you did not have the filter it could be manufactured from service toilet paper (which was a very dark pink) plus sellotape which worked really well. I had not thought of that for 30+ years but the style of torch brought the memories flooding back.
Tony- We would sit in a dark room for 15 minutes before a night exercise... As a goof sometimes we would call to a friend just before we embarked and shine a bright light in his eyes! LOL He would be stumbling around like he had a hood on! It was always funny! Like charcoal on binoculars! =D
Your screwdriver is a masterpiece. I absolutely love red handled tools. I remember that I bought a set of Gearwrench ones because you reviewed them so favorably. Thanks for a great video, as always!!!!!
Uncle Sneelock and his file sharpening video classes. You and your shiny tools. And here I sit with dull files and rusty tools and a big grin. Thanks, John CS! Happy week and GBWYou!
Mish mosh Monday !! I love Mish mosh Monday!!! It is raining cats and dogs here now John. We needed the rain cause my plants and grass were thirsty and the air needed to be cleared from the pollen. Thank you again my friend for all you do to educate and entertain us. Your friend down South
John, what a flashback to a 5th grade Yo-Yo trick contest. I must have practiced for a few months. I get my butt sore when I took the cord from my mothers ironing board cover. The weave
Great tips! I love the red handle. That color always reminds me of the toy rockets that you put water in and pumped with air to launch. They were red like the screwdriver handle.
Old worn files are also fantastic for making form tools for the lathe. Especially those one-off tools that you don't want to dedicate a new stick of HSS to
Making a little hidden Oasis in the City......I had my Grandmother's house set up like that, I'm not a fan of the city but with a little effort you can make even a small lot a bit of a wildlife area..........The Lathe really did a great job on the Screwdriver getting rid of that trouble spot.
I never throw out an old file either. I keep all my files in a draw and just throw the new ones on top, you know so they will sharpen the dull ones. Speaking of which I have seen that Mazda red color a number of times since you mentioned it it is very nice and unique. Of course I am still partial to fire engine red.
The stranding of it was perfect for making the yo-yo sleep. Thanks for the memory lane trip. We also used the flashlight with red transparent candy wrapper over it for night crawlers. Fun times.
Great video. Useful information about files. I've always wondered about how you could tell when they were dull. You can't really tell visually. Nice restorations on the flashlight and screwdriver. Solve the confusion with battery voltage and bulbs by converting the cool marine lantern to led. The lantern will be lighter, and the led will be brighter. In the process, it will draw much less power and have substantially increased battery life. Both Mothers and Meguire's waxes are good quality products. I have had good results with both on my cars. When you get around to using it, I think you will like the Meguires as well.
Great mish mosh scout very informative it would be interesting to do a challenge to re purpose a old file as we all have some old ones knocking about the shop great video god bless take care 🇳🇿🇺🇸👌🏻👍
What a tease. Thought we were going to see that beautiful flashlight lit up. Hope you find the bulb and batteries to make it work. You made that Great Neck screw driver better than new. I always called that brand "disposable tools", and would use those for loaners when someone wanted to borrow a tool :)
You mentioned that you are not supposed to file on aluminum. I've always put WD-40 on my file and still use that to break edges but if there's something better I would certainly love to know. Thank you again for the awesome video! It's always a good day when I see one of your videos pop up.

After years of watching your videos, you’re still teaching me something and making me laugh simultaneously. A tip from a fellow New Yorker : Keep quiet, get everything organized and get that flagpole up and done as soon as possible. It only takes one idiot to notice and New Yorkistan is going to try to tell you that you can’t have one. 🇺🇸
Good for you putting up a nice 🇺🇸 flag. I remember when I was young someone told me if you leave that wax on for a couple days it would really soak in. Man was that tough to get off. The res handle reminds me of the red Life Savers. Good stuff!
Great show SC . Very Nice Screwdriver . I have converted most of my flash lights to LED they are brighter and batteries last a lot longer due to the lower current draw .
New flashlights are 100X better then the old ones, however there is something really cool about big old flashlights with their yellowish glow. I guess it brings me back. Thanks!
"I didn't do a lot to clean it up" Proceeds to use lathe, polish, spends hours softening edges and bringing luster back. Me...sure, not that much! Amazing work!
I love the photo of Washington crossing the Delaware. He landed in NJ, marched inland 1 mile, hooked a right and headed to Trenton. I live at that intersection on Bear Tavern Rd. Swam the river as kids where he came across. This is also near where the big tool n Steam Power show is held every year. I invite you to come. Usually in September. Hope to see you, Carl.
When you do your flagpole, if you don't want to have wire stays, I had very good luck erecting a 30 ft Pole with a stick of rebar inside and self-leveling concrete. The self-leveling stuff gets up to 5300 PSI so the pole will not bend even in high winds. I'm on the coast and my flagpole has been up for 7 years still arrow straight
I saw an old timer sharpen his files by soaking them in old battery acid for a few hours. You had to rinse and clean them with kerosene(I think). Good Luck, Rick

David- I love it when people are patriotic fir their own country and fly their flags... We used to have this old timer in town who flew the US flag and under it the Lithuanian Flag.. He was so proud of both his countries! Miss that guy...
Can you send some of that rain to the family farm in North Dakota? Looks like another bare crop year. Loved the torch and the screwdriver turned out great.
Tony- The weather patterns are definitely changing across the country.. It's nothing unusual but we have to be prepared for changes. Here we are getting high wind storms in September when the leaves are still on the trees making it dangerous for old trees... "Be prepared" =D
I like that old lantern. That red screwdriver turned out great! I love the clear screwdrivers. Mostly green though. I use a small piece of a hard wood to clean my files. Run it against the grain as you say and they come out pretty clean. Having filed aluminum and brass, the pick is a must. I've read dunking files in an acid of some type sharpens them? Not sure. I may speak for other guys, but have you torn apart a tape measure to clean and tried to put back together with the spring having come out? I only succeeded a time or two, others met their fate in the garbage.
Waxes are like oils - if you use a good product - you get good results. Mother’s makes good waxes - so does Meguiar’s. The Meguiar cleaner wax is one of the old style of waxes which requires time to cure. I use the Meguiar’s cleaner wax that you showed and I allow it to fully dry. I have no problem letting it cure over night before buffing out. The newer Meguiar’s waxes are the apply and then buff out but the cleaner wax is the old let dry type. I have never used the Mother’s but it should be a good product since Mother’s makes good products. The can is more useful than the Meguiar’s - especially when stacking multiple cans up on top of another. Meguiar’s hump makes stacking cans more difficult since the multiple layers of cans tend to fall. A tooth brush is useful tool to remove wax from crevasses and corners no matter what type of was is used. Sam’s Club is one source of white “Rags in a Box” at a decent price. I only use Rags in a Box” in the shop or garage. Intex has a similar product that might work for others.

Ah yes, the Great Yo-yo Craze of 1972, I remember it well.
So do I! I had one I think was called the Duncan Butterfly.

A good trick to remove dried wax is to use a nylon brush. It will not scratch the paint but will remove the wax perfectly, then buff as usual.

That Great Neck screwdriver reminds me of a cherry cough drop. Is Johnson’s paste wax good to use as well?
Johnson's is a bit softer and good for furniture and stuff. It will work on metal however might be a bit hazy. =D
John is that going a fence in front
YES!!!!!!!!!! =D
