A really good video! Many years ago I read the Mayfair witches books and now that the series is coming, I’m checking around trying to find good info. And here I found some. Thanks! 🙏🏻
You did a really great job with this video. I love the Witching Hour book and it's sequels. I always imagined Jared Leto being cast as Lasher. He has such a hypnotic, sexual allure about him. I've just watched a trailer for The Witching Hour due to come out on AMC in January. Just from the trailer, it doesn't capture the characters nearly as well as you have in this video.
I read the Witching Hour back in the 90s. I fell in love w/ the whole story. Deidra made me feel so sad over her situation. Perhaps she was my fave character. I was furious about how they kept Rowan 's family secrets hidden from her her entire life. I thought that was so wrong. I have always planned on reading the book again. Breathtaking book.
I read the witching hour so many years ago and continued with the series. If I remember correctly, the inbreeding was to produce a stronger witch that could help Lasher become corporal. This was accomplished with Rowan and Lasher impregnates her and she gives birth to a daughter who instantly grows to teenager. We then find out that Lasher and his offspring are actually an alien race known as Taltos and who are constantly reproducing. The books never really explains why or how Lasher was thought to be a demon when he was apparently an alien. This series took so many different turns that it was quite ride.
becouse he made contact with them before we had even dreamed of flying let alone leaving our world a basic flashlight would look like magic sense it made light that didnt flicker like a flame and gave off almost no heat
My history with Anne Rice books goes back so many years. She meant so much to me. I saw a commercial for this series but I don’t know if I can bring myself to watch. I never go by reviews but the ad didn’t look too good. It sounds weird but the series wasn’t really in the horror genre to me. It was always something else.
I have loved her books (all of them) since the early 80's. This series is specifically my favorite specifically due to the complexity of the family. You hate them and love them all at the same time. She pulls all of your emotions and makes you spread them deliciously over every page and I have always been and will always be, here for it.
I read The Witching Hour 10yrs ago. This is my favorite book. This book is the weaving of a great tale. The storyline is so intricate. Can you recommend any others like it?
I’ve read them all. Anne Rice was/still is 1 of my fav authors. I’ve read the Witching Hour 3 times. The book is so detailed in the Mayfair genealogy I think I’ve finally got all of their names correct in the order they were born. Fantastic read!! 👍👍 watching the series now & hope they stick to the storyline in the book. 👍👍
Shamona Parker-Bokelman I read the series years ago, and simply cannot wait to see if they do it justice on the TV version which starts this Sunday on AMC! This series will be a hard one to reproduce for TV that is for sure!!
ugh. I was curious how they were going to handle adapting this story with how twisted it is at times, and it seems that they are just re-writing it all together.
I've been reading Anne Rice novels since 1982, (even the ones written under a pseudonym). I agree with every point you made. Early royalty used in breeding much the same way animal pedigrees are established. They use the term line breeding, but it all means incest. Good traits are encouraged and bad traits were weeded out. You might occasionally get a "throw back", but this does eventually produce a specimen possessed of all the right "traits". Lasher needed a strong enough witch to enable him to be born as a human. Rowan was the first Mayfair who was strong enough to conceive and nourish an entity such as him. Perhaps there should have been a new family line history made known to the Talamasca. Perhaps Lasher also aided in the selected descendants on the male's family...through Julian or even perhaps Cortland. They would make for an interesting set of side books that merge with the Mayfairs. As with most of Rice's novels, they could also be enmeshed with the Talamasca. Then there's the Talamasca that could be a series all on itself with endless possibilities! I loved all of the books and the movie "Interview With A Vampire". However, I was not happy at all with Queen Of The Damned". But that is a whole other series for discussion! Love the way you summed up the Mayfairs. And you are right, despite our initial revulsion to all the incest in the novels, Rice pulls us closer to the characters much by their innocence as well as the ignorance in not knowing why it's wrong morally as well as physically. Thank you for this brief video. If I hadn't just finished reading the entire series, I would get them out and read them again....much like watching your favorite movie. You just want to relive it all over again! 😁💜
I love the weaving of a great tale. I red The Witching Hour 10yrs ago. It's my favorite. Every 2-3yrs I reread it. The only story that can compare to it is the movie Game of Thrones. Both of these stories are high drama and unforseen twist and turns. I hope the movie Mayfair Witches does justice to the book. I wish Steven Spielberg would've directed it.
I loved the Mayfair Witches and the Vampire series back in the 90's. And was beyond ecstatic when the began crossing over. I'm looking forward to the new TV show too.
5he Witching Hour is one of my favorite novels! I love the entire series! And I only wish that she had written a few more! I agree with you! It'd have been great to see books dedicated to the ancestral Witches of the family, all the way up to when the book begins! Even an anthology, with one book covering several of them, would be cool! I've also read Merrick, which isn't technically part of The Mayfair Witches series. However, she is a Mayfair, born to the Black branch if the family! It's a great book! Canticle of Blood was cool too! And continued the story, that was left in either Lasher or Taltos. I forget which was 2nd? And which was 3rd! But if you enjoy the Mayfair Witch series, I highly suggest reading the other two books as well! Even more so if you enjoy The Vampire Chronicles! As the books sort of blend the two! I've read most of Anne Rice's novels! AndI need to buy them again, as my copies are long gone! Or in some forgotten corner of this or that storage unit! I'd also like to read any newer ones that Ive missed out on, in the last 15 years or so! If there even are any? I think Blood and Gold was the last one that I recall being released. And I believe that I read it too. I'm just not certain.
There is no Michael in the tv series, probably because they want to completely remove his arc with Morgan, pretty understandable, but they don't have to erase him, or Morgan, just that relationship.
I read it when I was in my first year of college. I adored that book, the whole family was fascinating to me and the Talamasca too, but my idolatry decayed too much. I read the two books that followed and then I stayed on a hiautus of 18 years. I found the books again at my mom's house and I read them again, I kept loving the first book but already in the second I hated Rowan and Mona again. Both of them are despicable characters!! . He had plenty of chances to kill Lasher but he beat the science and still let the...poor mother Emaleth she had. Hate came back to me!!! . I know she's a witch but the lady was wrong to make everyone who sees her fall in love with her!!! I was already hoping that he would put Reuben from the wolf gift or Rames from The Mummy or Ramses the Damned in another book so that they would also fall in love with Rowan !!! . The saga started well, it was going well, but it ended up being a story of a family of mutant sorcerers.
Nice video! I've read all the books a couple of years ago and really liked them, even the tedious parts. Could you tell me where the images you use in this video are from? Some witch move of some sort? I recognised some actors, but dunno the movies. Thank you. L.
Could you please list all the TV/Movies referenced here? I recognize 'Salem,' 'AHS:Coven,' and 'The Witch,' but what are the others, especially the Flapper scenes? Thx
I need to reread this, i made it to page 150ish... and quit.. same with Memnoch the Devil, got to about the point lestate was baby sitting a ghost daughter and put the book down lol
This is my favorite book in the whole world I’ve read it soooo many times I’ve never been able to find another book that is like it !!! I’ve looked but nothing is like it and no other book can make me feel like this book dose I’m in love with it !!! How do you feel about the new series I watched the first episode I was met down I’ve been waiting for years for This to be a movie or a show and I wish they would have just followed the book just the way it is !!! They took out micheal and Arron in the show …. What are your feelings on the show it’s only the first episode so far
Blood Canticle is a hybrid novel of the Mayfair Witches and the Vampire Chronicles I think you'd like to cover. * SPOILER* Lestat ends up falling for Rowan
Lasher was a Taltos in spirit form. Humans had murdered every Taltos they could find. Lasher wanted to reincarnate thru the Mayfair line. He wasn't a demon nor was he intrinsically evil despite his actions.
I don't understand how they went so off script from the book with Lasher. I wouldn't even attempt to watch it as they way the presented it is just horrible. It's too vast of a story with so many characters to try and make a film out of. I really do not think Anne would like it at all.
It’s crazy but everyone you showed is a better fit than the people on the actual show. I’ve just watched the trailer to it and it sucks! I’m so disappointed in the tv show.
This is actually better than the series . The writers of the series REALLY messed this wonderful book up .
Fact
You did this better in 15 minutes better than everyone else and one of the other reviewers is a librarian.

Jared Leto would have been a brilliant Lasher if it were an HBO or Apple TV series. With a significant budget.
I saw 40 seconds of this video and it was instant love. I loved it. Great Job!!!
_"A Family of Witches Raised By A Demon"_ is such a betr tag. that would have actually made the people watch the show you know. _JC

Just running into your videos as I just started the series. We need more videos on your thoughts of the series. I’m cracking up at the commentating 🤣

Are Taltos' ALIENS?
I thought they were an extinct EARTHLY race.
@@mmmuuuuuuuuiiiiiiiiirrrrr that’s what I thought to not aliens just a primitive or more advanced species of human.
@@mmmuuuuuuuuiiiiiiiiirrrrr ive never got that they were aliens either. They were an earth race who died out from disease and corruption.
Laser didn't impregnate Rowan. He took Michael and Rowan's baby in order to cross over and become human. The baby was a boy,and they went on the run.

I'm definitely planning to but I'm still reading them, will give a review as soon as I'm done! Thank you ❤️

Can I read the crossover books without reading all the previous ones in the vampire chronicles?
Blackwood Farm includes some overlap and update of the Mayfair witches. I enjoyed it immensely.
she has written a new trilogy about warewolves - i loved the 1st one, havent read the 2nd and dont know if there are any others after the 2nd..
Subscribed from bonnie Scotland 💗 great videos 💗
Love mags x
Interesting review presentation. Definitely got my attention. Hilarious.
Great review of an amazing book 📚

Peaky Blinders and Boardwalk Empire
You did a fantastic job here. Please now go to Lasher and Taltos for your excellent summary. ❤
Me too read all her books excellent writer.
I need to reread this, i made it to page 150ish... and quit.. same with Memnoch the Devil, got to about the point lestate was baby sitting a ghost daughter and put the book down lol
*awesome. do the rest?* & review the AMC show. & the vampire one. few are. _JC
Love it!
You did a great job but the name Deirdre is pronounced (deer dra)
I just lov the whole series of books l just wish that so more to come Anne Rice was my favorite au
Great breakdown of what actually mattered about the story... enjoyed the show, but they missed the point entirely... ✌️💙
This is my favorite book in the whole world I’ve read it soooo many times I’ve never been able to find another book that is like it !!! I’ve looked but nothing is like it and no other book can make me feel like this book dose I’m in love with it !!! I love the new Mayfair witches season 1, I can't wait to see season 2
there are scnes from a movie with Rowan mayfair , what is it called please
I'm not sure as it was never made into a movie despite an attempt by WB but there's a Mayfair Witches series/show currently I think
A discovery of witches, it's pretty great you'll love it
I was so disappointed I'm the end and wow does this series have some messed up stuff in it
Julian isn’t gay, at least not in the books, he would eagerly sleep with male and female.
Blood Canticle is a hybrid novel of the Mayfair Witches and the Vampire Chronicles I think you'd like to cover. * SPOILER*
Lestat ends up falling for Rowan
They all fall at the feet of Rowan but it's not because she's beautiful, it's because she's a witch.
What is lathers real name ?
@@maryhq13 witch is funny because vampires hate witches, but Lestat falls in love and seduces one!
Now I must watch all the shows u used clips from
Lasher is not a Demon.
Then wat is he
Lasher was a Taltos in spirit form. Humans had murdered every Taltos they could find. Lasher wanted to reincarnate thru the Mayfair line. He wasn't a demon nor was he intrinsically evil despite his actions.
What do you think of the AMC adaptation?
I dunno I heard it was pretty bad and didn't wanna ruin the experience I had reading the book tbh so didn't watch it
Wow!!! I will be reading this book.
Thank you it's getting stranger now
I don't understand how they went so off script from the book with Lasher. I wouldn't even attempt to watch it as they way the presented it is just horrible. It's too vast of a story with so many characters to try and make a film out of. I really do not think Anne would like it at all.
Great video, but a whole lot of peeky blinders clips 😂
Review the other two
It’s crazy but everyone you showed is a better fit than the people on the actual show. I’ve just watched the trailer to it and it sucks! I’m so disappointed in the tv show.

Awesome !!
