    Lei, your reach is certainly DEEP in the community! I have a question regarding the 'base' colour Pan is attempting to control. It's my understanding that this blue base calico is actually the not a pigment in the scales themselves but located in the tissues below the scales. Is that correct? It appears blue but is actually black pigment that just appears blue when viewed through the tissue and scales above. Do we know what the pigments purpose is playing in these deeper tissues? Does it have a function we may not be aware of currently and that manipulating these tissues may wave downstream effects we may not foresee? Might this be of concern ... ?
    I am just playing the devil's advocate here; I truly LOVE this new ranchu type Pan has had the vision to create and is now refining. It is a great innovation and think this is the kind of breed interventions that we both can get behind! I hope you can put a little bee in his bonnet and see if you can convince him that the fish needs a bigger/wider tail not a smaller one since the body changes he envisioned needs to be more balanced and functional tail that allows the fish more graceful propulsion with less movement ... like a cow in the grassy meadows swatting the fly from its body on a lazy humid summers day ... the swatting isnt frenetic but effortless.

      Bruce, you are absolutely right on goldfish color! Correct, there is no blue color at all. Like you said, blue color is dermins color under nacreous scales. Goldfish does have black melanophore. I guess Pan’s work basically removed the half-transparent scales, which make the blue base. All the cow ranchu should have normal scales. That is how he got rid of blue base.
      As for the body shape, different people has different opinions. I can see where you come out the idea. the long tail for strong propel. Before the cow ranchu, Pan developed short-tail Ranchu. Really cute and popular in Market. He simply made the color and tail attributes together to get cow ranchu

      @@GoldfishCorner Hmmmm ... so are you saying it's the scales that are changing in transparency? or has the black pigment no longer there?

    • @GoldfishCorner
      @GoldfishCorner  Před 4 lety +1

      GoldfishLover.67 probably eliminate the transparent scales. If Transparent scales are still there, the blue base will show up. The black pigments are more concentrated to certain areas then become black patches

      Small tail Ranchu is Pan's main work earlier, this has become the property of Chinese Ranchu, very hot hear. And I think small tail forces fish to move harder, which shaped a cowly-strong body.

    So basically creating a more durable and lasting black and white pattern. I have a feeling and I hope that Cow will eventually be the new face of Panda. A true panda is really a black twelve- point and are one of the hardest colors to produce. This market's panda is just a color changing phase, with 5% guarantee that it will be a sturdy, close to permanent look on a specimen- and that sucks. Today's pandas will always turn into "tricolor' (with even less black) becase the market can't admit that the black is really fading. Underneath it's just a white, red or red and white fish.
    I love the science that went behind this, using calico fish as a base and eliminating and developing certain colors to produce something new. This fact has been very successful for Nacreous Scale colors, like Sakura where the blue and black has been bred out. However it's not uncommon to see these with few black streaks and scales. Also the black on Nacreous fish are more stable than those of metallic scales, beause it's meant to be there in patches or spots- Calico, Kirin. This will mean a very attractive, bold and playfull appearance for the Cow. By eliminating some colors of a usual calico, it will make room for what is really desired. The Cow Ranchus I have seen sold really just look like plain calico Ranchus with excessive black, so I hope we will get a more correct and stable with just black and white in the near future. For me, this new Cow color can even go without a red head.

    • @GoldfishCorner
      @GoldfishCorner  Před 4 lety +3

      Very insightful comments. I think cow ranchu is the prerequisite for pandas 🐼. The next step is to develop the location of black patches on the right spots, like a panda. One thing missing in Pan’s video is about the durability of the black-red color pattern. I am not sure how long these black and white pattern can hold. Conversing his reputation, I guess Pans color pattern should be long is not permanent. Like he said at the end, one year his farm only got 7 real cow ranchu.

      @goldfishlover.6734 Před 4 lety

      @@GoldfishCorner would he need to eliminate or reduce or minimise the presence of the metallic scales in what was essentially calico fish? There is an American breeder of shubunkins in Georgia or the Carolinas that has developed a series of new shubunkins that took the opposite approach ... they have maximised the presence of metallic scales to some very beautiful results. It might be worth looking at their approach as it may hold some clues. I'll follow up with their CZcams channel name shortly.
