I completely understand the leaky joints bud unions, it’s knots as though your build has mirrored my current setup in terms of troubleshooting lol. I went to buy fish last Saturday and my pop-in-law rang me urgently saying that my tank is leaking. I rush home to find that 50g+ of aquarium water has not leaked but spilled onto the hardwood floor leaving my fish with 6” of water left to swim in. All because of a hose union that failed as my return pump continued to dump seawater everywhere... my RO unit only makes 100gpd and so I had to run to the store for more. It was the largest single water change I’d ever done, ever! One thing that might help keep leaks or water at bay that I keep in my gear cabinet are a couple of Absorber chamois that you use to dry your car after a wash. 😄 It helps to reduce the number of wet towels and they hold so much more water.
OMG, what a nightmare David! 50 gallons of water on the floor! Wow. My worst was 10 gallons and that was enough to warp my wood floors! How did you clean it all up? Anc I'm diggin' the chamois suggestion. That is an excellent idea. So excellent, that I'm going to buy some right now!

All of the carpet runners and area rugs / mats in the entire center of the house was soaked... the living room where the tank is, dining room, kitchen, front foyer.... the floors are all wood and tile. Luckily by the time I made it home, most of it was mopped and wet vacuumed up. Cue Absorber towels! I pulled the two I have in my van and the one under my cabinet and I was able to suck up all of the 5 or so gallons water surrounding the tank stand into a bucket in a matter of 2 or 3 minutes. FAST. Then I collected every fan we owned in the house and generate as much of a howling gale as I could through the rooms in order to speed up the drying. In the end, I could’ve done with a commercial warehouse blower or box fan when I went to get new plumbing but I digress. 😝 Took me a night and a morning to redo my plumbing job so my fish were without a filter for a night; just nice strong circulating water, skimmer and my little XPAQUA ATO reactor running carbon. 🤞BTW, I’m just running an FX4 for filtration and it’s just a FOWLR setup. It ended up being fine in the end, but in the future the floor has to go. It’s been more than 20 years since the wood was installed.

Yes, yes yes!!! Why I didn't do that who knows! I guess since it was my first time plumbing an inline external pump I just didn't think about it. I think I'll get some barbed ball valves and and just cut the flexible tubing and install them.
Haha, there was more swearing but I cut it out! Nothing wrong with a good swear word when appropriate... but not too much since I try to have a family friendly station! :-)
When filling a tank, I now start filling water VERY slowly and crank up the flow after 30mins and 1hr, just so i dont kick up sand which even when controlled as we've always done it, still leaves the milky coat on the glass with the tiniest grains of grit in it. I really baby the glass until that inevitable first scratch
Tell me about it! So frustrating. What I need to do is install some cheapo ball valves in the flexible tubing so that when it comes service time I don't have a huge headache! Luckily I was able to pinpoint and fix the problem this time around!

Get some codium and sargassum. There is a website that also has gorgonins on it that sell large marco algae pieces for pretty cheap. I tried to comment it, but CZcams deleted it. The inappropriate reefer mentioned it his video getting his macroalgae and gorgonians.

This made me chuckle! I totally understand. Unless you are some sort of master, you will eventually spill water onto the carpet. But, you could totally minimize it. Maybe consider putting a plastic mat like this one under the tank to help catch the water? amzn.to/2SzP4y0

Dude, you gotta hang that light, my OCD can't take it! I can also see it being knocked into the tank by accident, which would be a disaster. There seem to be some DIY options (www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/removing-the-legs-twinstar-600s.56053/) but surely any hanging kit would do if you could hang the light with through some fine loops. Looking great otherwise though!

That's a great question. I'm working with Seahorse master Felicia McCauley. She is my guru. She says it is a common misconception that seahorses want low flow. They just need a section of the tank that has low flow, and really only in the morning when they do their mating dance. Other than that, higher flow is better all around since seahorses need great filtration.
I do rinse with RODI water. It's best practice. But depending on your water source, you could probably get away with just using tap water. I know, some people will vehemently disagree with that because you will be adding in chlorine/chloramine, heavy metals, nitrates, phosphates, but if you have a good water source, it probably won't be that much overall!

Do you think the gyre is a little too powerful for a seahorse tank? I also use gyres and they kick out a fair amount of flow 🌊

yeah, my experience, and maybe it has changed, was that Red Sea had high quality tanks, but skimped on the sump and plumbing components.
Why did it leak in the first place?
I forgot/didn't put plumbers tape at the input/output threaded connection points from the Varios 4 pump. My own fault of course!
that sounds more like a design problem, esp if you need tape
