Lucy the axe also talks when you chop down trees, it is pretty funny and i'm glad they didn't just make it a red axe and actually gave it its iconic "voice"

When you drop the axe, it gets worried thinking you are leaving it behind. But gets all happy n stuff when you pick it back up.

It's really cool that the snow biome has a boss now! Albeit a minor one, but still awesome!
(Minor as in heâs not vital to game progression and he isnât a large scale boss)

I am glad they made this boss a Pre-HM Boss. It's great to have more things before things get real insane.
Also the fact that they added the chest pet means there's still content that's useful in hardmode

I love how when you fight the Deerclops, you sort of need to employ kiting strategies like how you fight almost everything in don't starve. It's just a lot faster here.

Not sure, but I think the "Radio thing" just makes your screen literally insane vision from Don't Starve.

You actually make it at the ruins down deep in the caves not the oasis. You need the deer clops eyeball and the ancient guardian horn at a pseudoscience machine.
The fact that it doesn't spawn on the player is just so faithful to DST lmao I love the night where you just hear thumping and then it comes at you
or when you have to go looking for it sence it spawned to far away
One time it spawned at my base and destroyed everything. Classic deerclops, brutally murdered Chester and Abigail.

I'm glad too. Finally, the snow biome gets the attention it deserves. The desert has sandstorms (the snow biome has blizzards, but they're not nearly as interesting), space gets floating islands, the Jungle gets bosses and cool enemies, the caverns have cool ores and enemies, the underworld has the literal gatekeeper of the souls of light and dark, and the dungeon gets a skeleton boss and a bunch of enemies that drop really good stuff. The snow biome was ignored for way too long, it deserves to have a new boss

The fact you consider Chester to be a must have item/pet speaks volumes for how amazing it is, because we could have had this feature with the shadow mimic pet, yet didn't. Easily my favorite feature of the update!
I mean, how are you gonna store items in a mimic if maybe they got organs n whatever inside it
i love how because this is the only boss frkm dst they added they just made it drop random things that overall represent the game and not just things that would make sence for deerclops to drop, so cool... like seeing all of those items as a person who likes dst, its awesome!

Getting a new boss really was the cherry on top of this update, making it prehardmode is even better.

unfortunately this boss personally for me is like queen bee. not really needed to complete to proceed, so wouldn't fight it

Dude even though it's a pre hardmode boss it doesn't mean it's easy. Of course if you fight it with a hard mode loadout it will be easy but if you fight it at the right time it's hard.

@@kozolith2121 afaik it doesn't despawn after you die (maybe it despawns after a set amount of deaths). but it also has a mechanic that makes it invulnerable if the player is too far away
The moment I heard "flinx fur" I immediately just thought I'll never fight that boss ever.

I don't actually have a source, but I can confirm that the Deerclops can spawn naturally. It is fairly rare, though, I was playing in journey mode during a blood moon, with spawn rates maxed out, and only one spawned the entire night.
Makes sense, seeing as it only spawns once every winter in donât starve, so it would be pretty rare
It only spawns during a blizzard, similar to ice golems
Now I'm terrified of the possibility of finding one in the middle of the night, since I like to do my towns on snowy biomes.
so long as one isnt already alive, a deerclops will *always* spawn right at midnight during a blizzard.
Did you know that in terraria 1.4.3, they added the Don't Starve Together boss "Eye of terror" to terraria and renamed it to "Eye of cthuhlu"? Crazy
No way, It's just like that one time where Don't Starve added this Wilson character, which their whole attire came from Terraria, best crossover update ever!

This boss is so much fun. Never made it to winter in Donât Starve as Iâm pretty trash at that game haha. Gonna have to get better so I can fight Deerclops on his home turf and the Eye of Cthulhu in that game as well. From messing with certain gear, he seems to be ideally fought before Skeletron and after Queen Bee, if you of course go by ânormalâ progression. The new items are also so cool and so much fun. Having my boy Chester in the game now too is such a delight. He is one of my favorite things from Donât Stave so having him in Terraria now is amazing. Iâve learned the best strat against him is to use a frog leg with a balloon(of course their upgrades are good too) and stay right in front of him so he uses his ice attack instead of the snowball throw. You just use the vertical mobility to jump and just rinse and repeat. Great video of the update James excited to see you check out the seed itâs super fun. Can we expect a Donât Starve video soon now?
Now there's an Eye of Cthulhu in Don't Starve as well. Sincerely Skeleton is very weak if you manage to beat Queen Bee and get Underworld loot, so I guess it's better to beat this new one after Skeletron
@@pedroivog.s.6870 Yeah I mean you can really fight it whenever, I just found that it most likely fits in around Skeletron. Whether it's before or after is up to you, but it definitely goes around there with it's hp and damage.

I feel like deerclops is fine with difficulty because it doesnât despawn, it allows new players to just continue throwing themselves at it.
Thereâs also the fact you can dash under its legs without taking damage, which helps a lot
As a fan of both games, this is a dream come true.
I was trying to summon the boss in my own world (not knowing there was a summon), I found out theres a way to have it spawn naturally in the snow biome, I'm not sure exactly what caused it but it spawned at exactly 12:00 AM while blizzarding, i also had a water candle on but I don't think it's a random spawn
i tested it some more, it is at 12:00 AM when it's blizzarding, i was right
This crossover is an absolute treat. I love every part about it, in both games, but my favorite thing to take away from this is that Terraria, albeit 'at its end', is still kicking.
"every end paves the way for a new beginning" So, the journey ended, therefore something NEW is beginning in the world of terraria :D
Love to see cross overs like this feels nice seeing developers sharing content.

Chippy, since you said you've never played it, if you did a playthrough of Don't Starve or DST, I would watch every second of it! It's my favorite game of all time. :) You'll probably get your ass beat at first but learning is half the fun and such a cool experience.

I just finished nohitting the final boss today, and this dropped. definitely one of the cooler bosses of pre hardmode, and also one of the more difficult.

As a DST Player, the drops and Deerclops fight was cool. Specially when Charlie's hand just spawns randomly XD. And yes Deerclops also somewhat transforms when its Winter Feast and its super cool. Can't wait to play Don't Starve Together with my fellow survivors there and see how terrible the Boss you gave us Terraria XD.

Also, dearclops dropped dont starve together stuff, eyebrella is made from deerclops eye(and other stuff), bone helm is dropped from the last boss of the game, Lucy the axe is the axe that a character (woodie) spawns with, weather pain is a magic weapon, radio thing is the thing that allowed maxwell to fool most of the characters(some had different ways of getting into dont starve world)

Reminds me of how people said that Cryogen was an early hardmode boss for Calamity.
40k+ HP on Revengeance isn't what I would call "early".
I like the idea of deerclops a lot, because of it's weird spawn conditions, but picture this:
You are trekking through the night during a blizzard, fighting for your life, and then out of nowhere a creature out of nightmares appears, and chases you with it's powerful attacks, and the extremely limited vision would only help the experience. And it would still be a good miniboss in early hardmode, especially if you are trying to farm ice golems, and then it appeared to ruin your day.

This update is incredible. Many new items and chester as a funcional pet adds more combinations for pre-hardmode (especially chester, since you wont have to get the money through in inventory), but I would really like that they added one more boss for the dessert, to have 1 boss for every biome.

About Terraria Deerclops' loot and its uses in Don't Starve Together:
Deerclops Eyeball: Can be used to craft the best umbrella in the game, or a turret that shoots nearby hostiles.
Lucy the Axe: Character-exclusive item of Woodie the Lumberjack. Good at chopping, bad at fighting.
Eye Bone: Putting a blue gem in each of Chester's nine slots on the night of the full moon turns him into a mobile fridge. Doing the same thing with Nightmare Fuel increases his capacity by three slots, but makes food stored in him spoil 50% faster.
Eyebrella: Aforementioned best umbrella in the game.
Bone Helm: Shadow creatures spawned by the player's low sanity will not be hostile while this insanity-inducing helm is worn.
Radio Thing: The PR-76, aka the Odd Radio, is an item from DST's singleplayer preceder Don't Starve. Leads the player to the objects needed to begin Adventure Mode.
Weather Pain: Summons a small tornado that tears around the screen, useful for chopping down a lot of trees or fighting a horde of weak enemies. Hits very fast, but not very hard.
Pew-matic Horn: Character-exclusive item of Wheeler the Intrepid Explorer, from Don't Starve's Hamlet DLC. Takes any object the player can carry as ammo.

This guy came outta nowhere when I started playing terraria expert on a fresh world. To make a long story short, my world was covered in tombstones.
(I had lead armor, 200 hp, and a snowball cannon.)
Terraria players: I'll just download a few mods to make this harder.

Daylight EOL is hard but not that hard compared to supreme calamitas.
nICE, first the Hallow in 1.4, and now the ice biome finally has it boss.
This makes the desert the last major biome missing a boss.
Lucy the axe is basically alive in dst and is only obtainable by playing as the character named woody. It also talks. The radio thing also changes your vision back to normal in the constant seed. The weather pane is very strong and it even seeks.

I've actually played over double the time on Tmod loader than actual terraria, and I hope this will bring my back to the base game for at least a bit longer
The first time I encountered the deerclops, I didnât even know it existed and I was just starting in my world and I died like 50 times but I managed to kill it because it doesnât despawn after you die which I appreciate
After seeing that mod that you did the demo of, I even more take issue with how little warning these attacks have, I rather liked that dragon fight because you had warnings of where it's attacks were going, but this new boss is "half a second, now you've been ice spiked... half a second, eat snowballs! half a second... you're dead to ice spike!"
pretty cool things to mention:
- when in the "the constant" seed world, using the radio thing (or voxola radio) will turn the DST themed shaders off and make it look like a normal terraria world
- just like in DST, the deerclops doesn't despawn when you die and no-one's around it (this might not be true but it's how it worked for me and my friends?)
i'm so happy this update came to be, both parties really went all out with this and as someone who loves terraria and LOVES don't starve i am very satisfied by both of the games' updates :D
