  • This Lionel Postwar 2056 was originally purchased for a parts engine but when I got it I fell in love with it. I think its actually a 2046 with a 2065 face plate. It has magnetraction which was not available with this loco originally. Its only flaw is the bad repaint its been given. This video goes over the shell removal and general maintenance for this locomotive.

Thanks, niw you tell me. 😊 I just bought some pellets for the smoke unit. Be kind, I'm new to 0 gauge!

Hey, Thanks for watching. Liquid or pellets it doesn't matter. Since you get the pellets use them and enjoy those smokin' Lionel Locos!👍🙂

I didn't know liquid smoke was compatible with the old smoke units. Thanks, good to know!

Very helpful video. Thanks for posting it. The 2065-665 boiler front really sets the 2056 off.

Just a note ,the 2056 was made in 1952 and lacked magnatraction.Because of Korean conflict material for magnets was not available for commercial use!

      Thabjs for watching Robert!
This one is not a true 2056. It's a 2046 with the boiler face from a 2065 and repainted HORRIBLY with "rub on" decals for numbers. This one has magnetraction, the main tell tale its not original. Still cool looking and a great puller!

Say, I have a question about the older smoke units. Well, my newer smoke units have an on/off switch for the smoke unit? My older steamers don't. My question is, if I don't keep some fluid in the smoke unit, will that fry the smoke unit? 🤔

My locos all have some fluid in them. I have never left them dry. Thats simply because I'm always filling them.
That said, I have seen on other sites its suggested to not allow them to completely dry out. My personal opnion, keep a few drops worth in them just to be safe. 3 should do.

Hi Warren, I have a 2055, 2065 and a 665. I have worked on all of them and your 2056 is quite different. Thanks for the heads up on that locomotive and good luck with it.

The 2056 is completely different than 2055 and 2065/665. 2056 is bigger, completely different boiler casting. Someone took the face of a 2065 and married it to boiler of this 2056. If i find another I will grab it. These locomotives are fantastic!

That was very nice Warren I enjoy the real Lionel trains most when I see the builders plate on the bottom of the chassis that says Lionel Corporation New York made in the USA that says it all the Asian trains have nothing on the post-war when it comes to durability and especially speed I don't know if the new trains can run at prototypical speed or everybody's just afraid to run them fast because they're so delicate and expensive what's the fun in that? I've seen details break off the locomotives as they're removed from their packaging brand new at those prices are you kidding? Thanks for sharing

Thanks for watching. I appreciate it! The new Lionels also don't have that "postwar smell" of grease, oil and smoke pellet residue. I love that!
