  • In this video, Travis Porter, will demonstrate how to operate with the Fluke 9144 Field Metrology Well .
Field Metrology Wells are packed with functionality and are remarkably easy to use. They are lightweight, small, and quick to reach temperature set points, yet they are stable, uniform, and accurate. These industrial temperature loop calibrators are perfect for performing transmitter loop calibrations, comparison calibrations, or simple checks of thermocouple sensors.

Hi, thanks for clicking on our link for Field Metrology Wells. I’m Travis Porter, I work in sales at Fluke Calibration. Let me give you a quick rundown of our 9144 unit here that I have in front of me. But just to be clear, we’ve got three versions of our field wells, that allow you to cover the temperature span of minus 25 to 660 C.
The models that we’ve got are the 9142, which is a minus 25 to 150 unit; the 9143, which is basically an ambient 33 to 350 unit, and then the unit here, which is our hot unit, the 9144 that covers 50 C to 660 C. All the units are available with a variety of standard drilled inserts. We can also assist with a custom insert if you do have a special application. Inserts are pretty straightforward. They drop right in but, again, you want to insert them very slowly. You don’t want to ever drop your insert into a well, as it can thermally shock the internal sensor.
The unit itself that we have here is outfitted with the process option, so the units can be purchased with or without these. I’m kind of showcasing this, what we’ve got here, in addition to the display accuracy, or the display with an accuracy that range from point 2 to point 5 depending on the unit and temperature range. You also have the unit with the process option that allows for an external reference probe as well as options for devices under test. In this example I’ve got a Type K thermocouple also connected to show you the display, how it breaks it out. So basically the display temperature setpoint, our reference and then our thermocouple. Obviously if we were making a test, we take our reference, put it in our reference hole that fits appropriately and then our device under test, we put that in there as well. And then we would be able to set the appropriate setpoint.
This unit also has a ramp/soak feature and can store some tests and a very basic test setup so it will ramp and soak and then store that data that’s collected here. So again, great all in one little guy, if you’re out in the field and a technician, you may have multiple things that you’re be testing there from RTDs to thermocouples or even if you need to drive a 4 to 20 milliamp circuit there.
It’s also got this switch test indicator so it does capture the state of a switch test for the area where it’s open or closed, or when it does open or close you can capture that dead band.

Can i export the test to an USB drive or to a PC directly? I would like to add a tag with the printed results to the calibrated thermocouples to prove its accuracy.

did you get an answer for this ? What machine did you end up purchasing ?
      Thanks in advance
