    Bench testing the VW T4 cluster unit
    If you have a cluster unit with a green and a blue connector at the rear of the unit, you need the blue connector.
    In that blue connector purple/red, red and red/purple go to +12V. From those 3 lines solder them together, and connect 2 lines. 1 of the 2 goes into the OBD connector, the other to the external power supply.
    Next line is gray/red, that lines goes into the OBD connector (K-line).
    Next line is blue/purple -- connect to external 12V.
    The last 3 lines: black/yellow, black and black/brown solder together and connect 3 lines to them. 2 of them go into the mass positions in the OBD connector.
    The third one do you connect to the minus of the external powersupply.
    Now you should be able the bench-test your VW T4 clusterunit at a table.. With kind regards and good luck. Just leave me a message at eldiape.com guestbook
    With best regards
    Peter

    Hello,
    After a few hours of using the screen, the solderings will become a bit warmer, with contact problems as a result. Soldering the connections back again, makes them like new and could possibly solve the problem.
    Wish you luck with your repair..

    have u Maudi a3 with VDO KOMBI panel, the marker not fuel brand, the VAG I see the resistance of the sensor and test the pointer and it's all ok, when I calibrate it works but when I add more fuel it will not go up and down until 0 of the fuel. the sensor and the tank again, the hands work, not accusing any errors in the panel.

    Will the mk5 instrument cluster fit into the mk4? And be able to use the screen? I like those white and amber color better than the blue. That's played out now, blue cluster gauges with amber colored lights everywhere else on the radio and climate control and all the buttons. They probably sell a kit to make them white or fit the green mk3 buttons and climate control knobs. Even that would be better but I like the chrome around the tachometer and speedometer and gauges

And also from which pin number from the cluster the grey/ red wire is connected? From the OBD, pin 4 and5 connects to which wire and pin number to the cluster? Thank you, your help is much appreciated.

      I've shown how this works on a Volkswagen T4 cluster unit, and I've commented on the questions regarding the wiring. Should it should be clear. If you've got a different car, the wiring and pin-numbers could be different.
      And I don't have the need to figure this out for other carbrands and different models..

    • @T4centrum
      @T4centrum  Před 9 lety

      rfn944 If you have a cluster unit with a green and a blue connector at the rear
      of the unit, you need the blue connector.
      In that blue connector purple/red, red and red/purple go to +12V.
      From those 3 lines solder them together, and connect 2 lines. 1 of the 2
      goes into the OBD connector, the other to the external power supply.
      Next line is gray/red, that lines goes into the OBD connector (K-line).
      You just need and extra OBD connector (partnumber eg 3A0 972 695 A )
      @pin 16 +12V
      @pin 7 K-line or canbus
      @pin 4 and 5 connect to mass
      You need an external powersupply as well,
      And for your aid, special software which is capable of reading the eeprom, like VAGdash.
      Whish you succes and please let me know if it worked out for you..
      Hope this helps

    I just have updated the description so please have a view into that.
    It was done because of returning questions about where have you bought your screen, and how to wire and connect the clusterunit for testing it on the table.
    What LCD screen you need for your car depends on different things like:
    - brand of the car,
    - type of the car eg. golf 4,
    - year of the car,
    - what clusterbrand you have: VDO magneti Marelli, Jaeger
    - and the size of the LCD screen and how many connections it has.

    Next line is blue/purple ---> connect to external 12V.
    The last 3 lines: black/yellow, black and black/brown solder together and connect 3 lines to them. @ of them go into the mass positions in the OBD connector. The third one do you connect to the minus of the external powersupply.
    Now you should be able the bench-test your clusterunit at a table..
    With kind regards and good luck.

The skills is priceless. If you don't trust yourself, then there are companies in Germany who exchange the FIS-screen for you for about 140 euro including 1 year of warranty. look at pixelfehler.de good luck!

    hello
    please please explain me this
    -------If you have a cluster unit with a green and a blue connector at the rear
    of the unit, you need the blue connector.
    You just need and extra OBD connector (partnumber eg 3A0 972 695 A )
    @pin 16 +12V
    @pin 7 K-line or canbus
    @pin 4 and 5 connect to mass------
    power supply???? can i use battery of my car
    i don t undestand this: In that blue connector purple/red, red and red/purple go to +12V.
    i don t understand this too: From those 3 lines solder them together, and connect 2 lines. 1 of the 2 goes into the OBD connector, the other to the external power supply.
    thank you to answear me

      Please be sure, the video describes a VW T4 cluster unit.
      Other brands and types can differ in wiring coloring and pin positions.
      Just make a drawing and do it as I've did and it works.
      So 3 wires in and 2 out eg.
      For the power I've used a table powersupply because that was much more convenient, but a small car battery could work too
