    Thanks for this! I’m a blues guitarist learning jazz and this is some great study material for how to connect chord tones with passing notes to create melody

    Nice, common sense type approach, allowing for people to get more music-theory about it later, but this makes the most sense, in order to get someone started, and actually most of what they might need. Thanks for this useful lesson!

      Thanks for checking it out đŸ€˜It’s a nice 3-part framework to have for chord melody and Dan demonstrates it beautifully.

    So what’s the “one skill”?

    • @user-fj2tt4qx8q
      @user-fj2tt4qx8q Pƙed 2 měsĂci

      Ha. Find the two notes. Melody note and bass note, obviously.

    • @jamessidney2851
      @jamessidney2851 Pƙed měsĂcem +4

      Nah dude. Don’t laugh at the guy asking the question here. You have the wrong answer for him. Playing the bass note with the melody note is NOT the one skill. That’s just an appetizer. The one skill is understanding what interval the melody note is in relation to the underlying chord, and having a voicing for that in whatever position you find yourself as you go along. Obviously.

  • @marcgrossman980
    @marcgrossman980 Pƙed 9 měsĂci +1

    Instead of playing the bass note simultaneously with the melody note, why not play the entire chord including the base note simultaneously with the melody note?

    • @ChaseMaddox
      @ChaseMaddox  Pƙed 9 měsĂci +5

      Because you can create many different chord types based on a bass note and a melody note. So this lets you hear those options and try them out before deciding on only option.
