  • This is the little gem that I picked up at Hamvention this year. In this episode, I give it a good cleaning and try to get it working again.

Great job! I have used CL-90's before but have never seen a "Glow bar". Now if I run into one I'll know what to do. Thank you so much for what you do! Keep the videos coming, we love them!

Nicely done. I've used CL-90's & the like in the past for dropping voltages & semi soft starts. I've not seen the devices you used, so that was good to see.

The fillement supply is typical Philips, in many receivers from the '60s and '70s last century they use so called U-tubes like UL82 or UF-41 connected in series with a special kind of NTC resistor, and yes they are glowed during warming up.

With your vested efforts in effecting the repairs and alignment, painting the case is imperative. One thing I have learned over the years is its cosmetics, cosmetics and cosmetics. A working unit is great but unless it's pretty, the resale value remains low. Given the rough shape, I'd and sand it down quickly. or at least smooth, then finish it off with a spray paint; perhaps beige. Perhaps, pair with your Adventure xmitter and make a few Q's b4 you pass it on.

Indeed, repainting the case is definitely needed. I'm thinking of maybe doing a triple rig episode - it plus my Hallicrafters SX-140 and HT-40 that I rebuilt awhile back.

The CZcams Channel "Zenwizard Studios" seems to know some tips and tricks for restoring plastic lenses... Even detailed stuff... Like anti-static treatments for the plastic lenses of analog needle meters. You may want to search his channel for DIY videos. HTH.

Hello, Nice video about the good old stuff from Heathkit, long time ago, i think 50 years I made the tube/volt meter, the generator, a tube-tester and the LF-generator from Heathkit...but I have a question about wat i see in the back-round, it is a Keithley multimeter.
Do it have a LCD screen, or is this one with LED, I owns a one with LCD but for long time the liquid looks like gone, do you find a solution for this?
