Shaq has said that he thought that Hakeem was the very best, but I think he's biased, because Hakeem humbled shaq in that famous playoff series. Shaq didn't want to admit that any of the other great centers were even better than Hakeem. But, Shaq has at least admitted that Wilt, Jabbar, and Russell were also better than him (iirc). I think Shaq ranked himself as 5th best centre ever, behind those four. Personally, I think Wilt was clearly the best, but I think you can also make a strong case for both Russell and Jabbar being better than Hakeem as well.

Shaq himself admits that Wilt, Hakeem, Jabbar, and Russell were all better centers than himself. Have you not heard of Wilt Chamberlain?! Nobody in their prime has ever dominated so much on both ends of the court. Even if he had retired after his first season, he would still hold both the highest rebounding AND scoring averages EVER. That's right, nobody except Wilt himself has ever surpassed the rebounding OR scoring averages he tallied in his ROOKIE SEASON. Jordan's best ever season? Still didn't score as much as Wilt as a rookie. Russell or Jabbar's best rebounding season? Still not as much as Wilt's rookie season. Wilt also had the most blocks ever, but they never officially recorded those in his playing days. Russell is probably second overall in blocked shots, but he also played during the same time period as Wilt.
