    "We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem,"
    "If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate's service is more valuable." - Gabe Newell

      @@watchonjarwell, not only.
      I do not live in the USA, so for me “region-locked content”is nothing unusual.
      Not so long ago, I wanted to rewatch Slayers anime. It was on Funimation. Now with it being shutdown, it supposed to come in Crunchyroll… and yet it is not there.
      Why? Ehm, because.
      I legally can’t watch the anime - I’m forced to use VPN to access most content holders which is already “fun” -and not I can’t do that.
      That’s just one example, - an old anime that I love for its charm, - but a lot of content get permalost because owners and acquisitiors can’t bother to keep it available EVEN WHEN YOU PURCHASE IT.
      So, with a heavy heart and a steady hand, I’m setting sails and raising up the flag.

    • @mikylak7983
      @mikylak7983 Před měsícem

      That's pretty much the reality. I love anime so I've tried supporting every avenue of access I can. So for years now i have actually paid for every anime subscription service I know of, which does get a bit pricey, but my hope was doing that would help encourage even more services and options. That said I know for a fact that there are tons of great products that are in limbo, inaccessible from any of the legal forms of service. so if you want to watch them, that leaves only 2 choices. Purchase them which often becomes unrealistically expensive or even flat out impossible. The 2nd option is to pirate it.
      This is one subject I CAN NOT fully support the companies that provide the content because they simply do not put the effort into reaching the fans what I mean is they don't if dozens of titles suddenly become lost, impossible to watch. They don't care if access from entire regions or specific places vanish. They only seem to care that money is rolling in for whatever they toss down. Like a thief or dealer that says this is what I got right now so it's all you get.
      Pirate sites on the other hand, ironically seem to understand the concept of good service brings back customers. They make titles easy to search for and find, making everything available in one nice, clean, and organized package that doesn't dick you around or waste your time.
      That's the worst part, anime fans ARE actually willing to pay and usually quit well for the content they love so much because we do have an emotional attachment to it. The pirate sites seem to understand this and take steps to bridge the gaps and remove road blocks. Until the companies that provide anime actually learn they don't simply sell to a consumer but rather offer services to devoutly fans that's never going to change.
      Personally I always felt that was the saddest part, that pirates, the "criminals", act like they care for the gans MORE than the companies that sell to and rely on for their own well being. Until that changes they will be stuck competing for all the wrong reasons.

    They think that they have enough casual fans that they don't need the hardcore fans anymore and while the casual anime fan (who likes anime enough to watch, but not enough to do anything more than just watch) is a real person who exists in decent numbers, the problem is that somebody like that is unlikely to subscribe to Crunchyroll. They probably watch their anime on Netflix since they already have it.

    1:02 "Speaking Negatively" is not really the case here, you are just critiquing their choices, which is a valid opinion to express. If they wouldn´t get feedback from their users, they couldn´t improve their plattform. If they ignore the opinions of their users, they will loose them to pirating or a plattform, which are fullfilling the needs of anime watchers. I myself liked about Crunchyroll, that it was reliable at first, you had your own Watchlist, a comment section under every episode, and you could sort somewhat the animes in their relative genre and they showed which new animes got added in the new seasons, which helped me a lot actually.

    I've also been watching anime since the early 2000's when everything was fan subbed and took weeks to release so I would watch it raw through torrenting. I've been watching most of my anime since, through pirating and probably always will for as long as I can 😄👍

    I don't know Crunchyroll has a comments section on episodes, maybe on the Playstation app it was not available or I'm just very clueless.
    I might be wrong but I don't thinks it's a big problem they removed comments, but thats just my point of view.

    I don’t really think commenters are necessarily the biggest supporters if anything they are probably more fickle because they are so intrenched in the anime fan community and such hold Crunchyroll to a higher standard than others.

    I've been a Crunchyroller for over 18 years. Witnessing its decline is heartbreaking. The community was already butchered since the systematic takedown of the forums and member profiles. Removing comments is one thing but removing reviews is a catastrophic blunder.

  • @WoodMntSeaBear2
    @WoodMntSeaBear2 Před měsícem

    They didn't even make an announcement when they took comments/reviews down. How are the people paying for their service supposed to trust that the company will not take more things away to "protect" users. It's so dumb. They literally sell manga that have nudity in them, and I'm pretty sure some of the characters depicted aren't adults. How are they going to deal with that? Probably nothing, since it makes them money.

    if they keep banning content and now using Ai as subs, they re gonna drive away everyone from their site and back to the shadow sites. I still think most people use them though, as aside from everything with their prices other parts of the world might be even less afortable. I think also with companies and all trying to use Ai as subs, is gonna bring back those fan subs from back in the day. I kinda miss them sometimes, we used to even get subs on the op and ed as well, which now we dont get at all.

    They wouldn't even need moderators if they allowed you to opt out of genres and hide titles. It's not like anyone would intentionally watch a genre they don't like and then b*tch about it.

    It's obvious they jumped on the opportunity to do it now, but to be fair to them it's not like other streaming sites have comment sections, right? So it could just be they want to be like them and this was just the last straw for them to pull the plug.... That being said I do enjoy comments (for the most part) under anime, in general the community is nice and open and only memes on the each other. But no one can deny the hate that does arise is very uncomfortable.

  • @darkprinc979

    I've been commenting on every video covering this topic that I come across to help the algorithm push it.
    The only real way to fix this is to not just complain, but to be willing to drop our subscriptions. I've been subscribed to Crunchyroll for over 10 years, but as of now my subscription is cancelled, and if user comments are not restored I will not be giving any more of my money to Crunchyroll. I was watching my anime on pirate sites before I found Crunchyroll, and I'll go back to that now. I'll just buy the blurays for shows that I like, which is a more direct way of supporting the industry anyways.
    What's really bad about this situation though, is that as far as I know, Crunchyroll is pretty much the defacto distributor of anime since they bought out Rightstuf a while back. I'll still buy blurays through them if I have to, but if I can find another decent seller I'll go there instead. At the very least I'm not going to support Crunchyroll's streaming platform if they're going to be this disrespectful to their customer base.

  • @Zhiroc

    I don't care about comment sections. Running one is probably a huge PITA and very labor intensive--very few other streaming services do it. MAL is probably a far better place to consolidate commentary, as well as reviews.
    Also, when you say "CR" remember that you are really saying "Funimation" as they are the ones running it now. They just took over the branding.
