The enitre first verse is an extended metaphor for how he smells. Only Lupe can do shit like that.
B-Mint1994 facts. timeless
Big facts
Lupe Fiasco 🔥🔥🔥 this song Still Ride
No the verse is an extended metaphor for how fresh he is on the mic by using soap and cologne analogies all throughout the verse.
This is where I keep the bars like bathtub edgeeeeeees
Just saw that video Genius posted about Pharrell's 4 count start and now I'm here... dope!
Kim same
Me too omg!
Kim same
Yessssss
same same
Pharell is one of the absolute at producing beats
John Doe *The Neptunes
John Doe him and Hugo you mean?
This one's all Pharrell. Despite the fact that Lupe name dropped Hugo, only Lupe and Pharrell had the songwriting credits of this song in the BMI repertoire.
@@philanderadriaan writing credits and production credits aren't mutually exclusive though
Phil A lol how naive of you my friend. The entire melody was all Chad. Literally. 😉
omg...this dude's wordplay is INSANE!!!
😀
I remember when MTV did a behind the scenes for this video and Lupe’s sister was talking about how smart he really is. He was reading encyclopedias for fun! I wish we could get this shit back! The music, the fashion... everything!!!
😪
He wearing glasses
I know you can't judge a book by it's cover, but he looks real smart too. Actually he looks smarter than any other rapper I've seen lol
Emphasis on the fashion
I remember that back in 06. I watched it too! While everybody was on snappin or trappin rap back then. I was into lupe fiasco, common, kanye west, etc.
This song is such a banger, I'm sad it wasn't as big as it should've been.
Honestly It’s incredible it was as big as it was. So many people loved this album that usually don’t like super intricate smart raps
Lupe had chicago ina chokehold when this dropped. Magically i witnessed the Revenge of the Nerds before hand. I still wanna know what Lupe and StackBundles woulda did
same, it def had potential
Lupe is and will always be one if the best lyricists from the 2000s his wordplay and flow are unmatched and he along with other artists at the time promoted the nerd backpack rap style that's pretty much disappeared in present day hip.hop I'd genuinely live to see a return to this culture today's youth is caught up in this pretentious gangster look and promoting a drug party lifestyle that's going to hurt them in the long run
Ever*
Untouchable wordplay and entendres but not flow
"Food & Liquor" is still one of my all time favorite albums.
ABSOLUTELY!!! I’m so glad he pushed haaaard for most the songs when they didn’t want him to.
The song is so HARD. Lupe was such an interesting artist and I love how Pharrell meshed with him. Pharrell is beyond talented!
I miss music like this - old Kanye, Pharrell in his prime and lupe fiasco
CHILD REBEL SOLDIER (CRS)
One of the most ridiculously good songs ever
This song is a big metaphor on how his style is as well as fragrances and how the way he raps might be too strong for people to be listening to
🎯
The fashion of that time.. put me on on some shit to rock today! Some wouldn’t understand 😢 💯
“Gold Watch” was like reading a hypebeast GQ mag out loud. Same here.
23 year old lupe was so COOL.
GOAT
Before he became pretentious
"Can't be 21 every time I sit and make verse"
Still the coolest
@@leon-kx1ex he never was
He still got it
@@CriticalThought004 imagine thinking Lupe is pretentious... lmao
His word play is nasty🔥🔥🔥 Lord, thank you for making me discover Lupe Fiasco💯
I was 14 watching this every day in computer class lol now I'll be 27 next week...will never forget this song. Such a timeless tune!
Man, big ups to P for being one of the greatest producers of all time. Thank you for birthing artists like Tyler, The Creator and speaking of him, this song would be a perfect example of how P seriosuly influenced him, as most of his beats around this time sounded like this.
it’s not just pharrell in THE NEPTUNES!!!! 🙆♀️😪 “this beat i rhyme off- is from ‘thelonius p’ AND ‘hugo mind boss’” = pharrell AND chad hugo
people always leave him out!!
Well...i just want too thank pharrell for this sick beat and lupe for his fantastic raps with that mixed together its a masterpiece
And we can't forget about Hugo Mind Boss.
This was my shit. Can't believe its been 10 years since this came out
The Gooch 10 YEARS??????
The Gooch I've been saying the exact thing these 10 years have flown by way to fast.. bcuz I remember ik yesterday, buying this cd.. ten years, damn
Over 14-15 now
This is a classic hit here. I get chills. His flow is very original while still being kinda oldschool.
Lupe is that dude. I will always listen to his music.
This song takes back to when I was in 4th Grade back in Fall of 2006. I remember listening to this whole album on my Batman CD Player going to school. 2006 was a good year for Hip Hop !!! DJ Drama had the mixtape game on lock, Nas started the whole Hip Hop Is Dead theory and had a lot of rappers in their feelings,The Game vs 50 Cent was still entertaining, and Lil Wayne was even starting to get big once Dedication 2 came out, T.I had one of the best albums/movies of the year plus a lot of great albums dropped that year.
Mack Vell on BD💯 Real Shit💯
Word! 2006 was good year for hip hop. I'll even go back to 2004 where you had Kanye dropped The College Dropout and Lil brother "The Listening" among other releases that year. Those years were also dope where mainstream rap and underground indie rap were able to co exist with each other before the SoundCloud era came a few years later after that.
Lupe defined being super cool
Pharrell is greatness.
Nicole Coleman Hi Nicole!
@@lazarorodriguez5161 nice try weirdo
@@reekhigh5789 Ok 🤔, all I said was Hi 🙋♂️ I’m confused 🤷♂️...I meant no disrespect, weirdo, really? So if someone gives you complement then what do you call them? Btw Pharrell is Awesome and Great, I was really into Bape and BBC in the 2000’s. Appreciate you acknowledging my comment, Take Care and Be Safe God Bless 😇🙏👍🌎☮️❤️
@@lazarorodriguez5161 you’re positive. I like your response. Take care Lazaro

Happy 15th anniversary to Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor album!!
this was the year i got involved in Fashion and art. music was starting to get really good.. man times have changed
Bruh im telling you this is exactly how I felt. Lupe made me actually like and love Hiphop. I bet if he knew he was having such a positive effect on people like us, he would be a lot happier.
I wish he truly knew bc us REAL fans are truly out her very appreciative of his gift, passion & craft! He’s a legend before he even knew!
It's this beat! So catchy
Pharrell, Lupe, Ye, Jerry, IBN, Virgil, Taz, Clipse, Hugo, I know there's more but these guys pioneered the Japanese streetwear into America. My mom would bring me stuff that I never heard until I started studying those guys. You never lose you nerd sense
I’m 34 so when I was 16 this was my shit , they whole swag I wanted to have lol ..
He was our Kendrick Lamar
his wardrobe is just vibrant and chill. His swag speaks for itself: lyrics, presentation, concepts. He's one the last of a dying breed.
This whole track had similies and metaphors that went over people's heads. It truly didn't get the credit it deserves for being lyrical and banger. "I warn y'all cornballs, I hush puppies." Thats one of the many cold bars on this track 🥶🥶🥶🥶
Basically all his music! He didn’t & still dosen’t 😢
crazy ass lyrics crazy ass beat amazing song a product of its time and so nostalgic for me
this beat is so fucking fire
Neptunes always ALWAYS produce 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I didn't know this even had a video. I'm like ten years late.
don't play ya self like accordion nick
big swang OK, DOOM.
+Nicholas Gordon Same here man : (
Nicholas Gordon I am ten years late Lol
Never too late for dopeness! better than most videos out now
I love the dancers! Not for nothing, but I appreciate the wholesome look. People of all ages can watch this video.
Bruh this is Tribe.. Q Tip and Phife all over again. Lupe & P wow.
Lupe on a Neptune beat. Damn 🔥😤
Oof this song hooked me on Lupe. One of the most important songs to me.
Lupe caught my ear when this album dropped, he's your favorite lyricists favorite lyricist. Listening to this with older ears makes me appreciate it even more.
Lupe deserves his flowers yo...
2018 and Lupe is still one of the most underrated musicians 😢
2018 Lupe is trash
What i like about lupe fiasco is the way he moves in his videos hes not karate chopping people like drake nor is he swaying side to side trying to find where the fuck he is at like lil wayne nor is he standing still or walking in a straight line like wiz. Lupe Fiasco is smooth and the greatest !! keep it up man
Still HITS today! I ❤❤❤❤😍🥰me some LUPE he was just in another league PERIOD!! Ahead of the game & they didn’t know what to do with him.
Back when I was in high school 🏫 and I was just different from the others than I heard Lupe music and I became a big fan back than.
#ClassOf2009

Classic 🗣🔥🔥🔥
Surprised this hasn’t got more views, this is a classic
People Dont know about Quality Music This is the Reason I loved Lupe in the First place. His Creativity and lyricism is unmatched and he will definitely go down as one of the best that done it. Nowadays I've been listening to other albums such as Kendrick Lamar Section 80 and Stann Smith 2nd @ Race America, but I always have to listen to some Lupe.
I feel you. Lupe was one of my first "favorite rappers ever" back in 7th/8th grade. I was a mildly nerdy, video game-obsessed child back then (still a nerd), so lines like "had my mind moving faster than that hog in the hedges" spoke to me, and Lu really taught me a lot about the world/society with F&L and The Cool. Today, he's still amazing, and I still love his music, but it's like we've both gotten more cynical with age. He's lost his sort of goofy charm, and I kind of feel bad for him.
Lupe really underrated in the MC game maine, but he always gotta be one of my favorite MC. also Pharell always a beast with production.
This is one of the best raps I've ever heard. I say that because there's a certain flow/pattern he uses that I've never heard in any other song before.
Pharrell SMASHED this Beat Jawn is an Absolute BangA
Been listening to Lupe literally my entire life...how have I not heard this song until now😭 damn Lupe...he was fly
This was an era!!! If you know, you know.
OMG I USE TO LISTEN TO THIS SONG ALL THE TIME GOD I LOVE LUPE
Me to. Good ole days..
Bro I was 8 years old when Lupe came out in 2006. I'm 24 now and still bump this along with his whole discography.
2:03 look at lupe man so inspirational
Aboutttt to murddderr this beat on my freestyle show tomorrow!
Classic.
Twelve years ago I fell in love with this song and I'm STILL here for it 😍😍😍
I wish Lu would go back to this type of flow..I still like him and all but this lupe was my favorite. :') nostalgia.
only 1 milli views! taking the piss! the combo of lupe n pharrell was nuts
that second verse...still genius 10 years later
Pharell, you're a genius
Only the Neptunes can make an accordion sound 🔥🔥🔥 on a beat
Steven Castillo IT SOUNDS WICKED!!!
MF DOOM?
Nah madlib too
Madlib says hi
And madlib listen to Accordian by Madvillain ?
Lupe is the most underrated rapper of all time more people need to know about him 💯
I love this song "you wanna loan leave my cologne alone its a lil too strong for you to be puttin on" I used to scream this when I got out the shower lol
Man I remember seeing this video back in 06 when I was in the 9th grade. Damn does time fly.
right right right right right right right right.
Such a timeless joint!!! The way Lupe could make bangers but still keeps it 100% raw and lyrical and conscious all at the same time is on point! And is why Lupe is 1 of the goats, 1 of the very few who could survive in the golden era of Hip Hop!!
YESSSSSS!! Co-sign ✍🏽 to the fullest!!!!!! ❤
Pharrell delivered on that beat,, but lupe’s whole verse,, was above!
this was the first song i ever heard from lupe and i liked it so I checked the food and liquor album and immediately loved it. food and liquor was one of the best albums ever.
Who here in 2024? A classic😌
I love me some Lupe🔥🔥🔥
Respect to one of the greats!
Another awesome video and song by the great Lupe Fiasco.
the lupe of today is a well improved and intelligent lupe of yesterday.
Lupe he gotcha! Nominee for best video performance!
If you just found out about Lupe... Go chilldren! Go and listen to all he has to offer! Listen to all of Food & Liquor, and The Cool and even more phonetically flabbergasting, his mixtapes! & when you have finished, go and spread the Lupe like Lupus to every man woman and child!
I remember being 14 when this first dropped and me being hype when my cousin called me in the living room "there go yo boy" damn time flies.
one word .. WOW... lupe's music is like poetry
This song is way ahead of its time
One of the greatest songs of all time!
This song and video are classics! So colorful and positive!
This video doesn't even have a million views. Shits sad how watered down hip hop is now this shit was 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Classic joint
trey092001 this is kids hop hop
They’re brainwashing this younger generation with bullshit. This is real hip hop ❤️
Update this comment to 10 mill
@@aryaman9559 You've been tricked. Hip hop was never about aggressive angry lyrics or death. Rap and hip hop was always allowed to have any topic. The difference between good and bad was lyrical prowess, flow and a damn good instrumental. That's all it really takes. Gunshots don't make a song better, they just tell a different story.
@@grah55 it was a joke
Beat is so fire! Lupe Fiasco & The Neptunes are a fire collab.
sick song! love the beat (Pharrell is a genius at times)!
shoulda been on 2k15 soundtrack
I've been listening to Lupe from the start. I wish people would respect his music more, he is saving todays crappy music.
how does this not have at least a million views?
I mean, "the swans in the pond called my dove ugly, but now they hug me, because its lovely, they love the aroma of a roamer of the world" I mean come on
Sounds like some early Odd Future shit, beautiful.
Lupe Wordplay in This song is Genius.....
YOOOOOOOO LETS KEEP THE FEEL GOOD MUSIC ALIVE
YES
Seriously, I was a mild nerd as well when I discovered Lupe back in 7th/8th grade too. His music resonated so perfectly to my thoughts and interests. I'm a freshman college student now and it's been awhile since I've listened to F&L and The Cool. However, it's time for me to "return to my roots."
This was my favorite cut from the cd!!!
I forgot how good this was
This was ahead of its time.
Most of Lupe is
OG LUPE FIASCO#1
never really rly listened to this song until 3 mins ago typing this paper up. This shit got me JAMMIN @ the library! This the type of shit that directly hits your hip hop soul. Lupe Forever!
The Neptunes on production!
