Hey folks, did you ever actually just focus on the main quest in Oblivion? Or any Bethesda game for that matter?
Believe it or not this was my first time running through it, I'd seen the ending before because young Hazzor thought it was hilarious to glitch through the ending door on floating paintbrushes on his Xbox 360, but never... y'know, actually did the quests.
So this was kind of something I just needed to do, the idea of being given a world saving quest by a dying emperor and then running off to join the thieves guild or something is pretty hilarious when you actually think about it, I think that Legs' approach is what should be considered the 'normal' response to that.
I've got a few hundred hours in skyrim and I still haven't finished the main quest

Of all the Bethesda games I've played, I've made it to the end of Oblivion, Skyrim, and Fallout 4.
Of those three, I've only made it to the end of the main quest once, on my first playthrough.
I got close the end of Fallout 3, but lost interest because my character was too strong, so it just became boring.
In skyrim only at my 4th attempt i actualy focused on the mainstory because i never got to the end before. it felt suprisingly short. and i couldnt care less. back to sidequests it was in any future attempt to play
I have over 2500 hours in Bethesda games, and not once did i focus on the main quest.
Even though that means Bethesda is good a world building.
Only an interesting world distracts you.
There's a lot of negative things to say, but Bethesdas worlds are interesting.

It always feels weird but also humanizing to see "famous" channels in the comments like that. After certain level of notoriety and subscriber count I subconsciously chuck folks into something akin to "soulless corporation" category and forget there's actually people behind it.
But from time to time there's nice remainders like that.

Not as bad as Morrowind, but definitely not "good" either.
Yeah, oblivions artstyle works well for backgrounds and objects, giving it a nice painted look, but not so much on people. Though honestly, I like it, it gives it character. Goofy character models are so much more fun than having to play just a normal guy.

Fun fact even if you get the great welkynd stone stealthily and no one ever sees you the lich or whatever guarding it will hunt you down, I fast travelled somewhere days later and the thing just showed up and killed a bunch of guards before eventually dying.

Totally want to see Hazzor do Shivering Isles. Best part of oblivion hands down, especially with all the wacky stuff.
I love how the modding scene is still alive for this game. There is a new mod posted nearly every single day.

Fun little fact. One can save the lizard from the underground temple. One must move fast and defend well. He eventualky goes back to his job as a priest at that temple in the end.

My only full playthrough of Oblivion was also an Argonian. Because I have a fear of being underwater (in video games, but not RL strangely) and having infinite breath made that easier to deal with.

the fast travel is such an odd thing to have unlocked. Like you get eased in decently well after leaving the sewers, like there's a ruin right next to it, you meet a bandit on the road. This is so uncharacteristic of Elder Scrolls it's so weird
Played Oblivion? My guy, at one point in time, I LIVED AND BREATHED Oblivion. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I had gotten my first Xbox 360 along with AC Brotherhood and Oblivion. I was aware that Brotherhood would require me to play the earlier AC games, so I played Oblivion first. For over a month straight. Without turning off my Xbox.
Yeah, I had to get a new Xbox because my GPU and motherboard had fused due to heat damage and it permanently gave me the RRoD. So no joke, I played Oblivion so much, it killed the console I used to play it. Luckily, external HDs were a thing for earlier 360s so all of my game data was still functional on my new Xbox.
On the bright side, you just made a pretty sweet grill.
I haven't finished the video yet, but I would wholeheartedly recommend watching (and maybe doing your own!) any% speedrun of oblivion. It's absolutely comical how fast you can do it.

yeah so the original plan was to do a speedrun progression video with this concept, probably not any% because as you say it's ridiculously fast, but it's something I'd like to visit in future, speedrunning content generally, not just oblivion

Baurus was one of my favorite characters in oblivion.
I didn't have the internet back then so I beat the game to completion, the majority of side quests, the groups, etc several times through. Didn't know fast travel was a thing for months..
I tried playing oblivion on 100% difficulty without using glitches once. It took me 13 in game days to get through the tutorial dungeon. A skeever becomes a keter level threat. Two skeevers, impossible.

Summoning in oblivion is OP (mainly because you can just summon something like a zombie and hit it with other spells or swords to farm skill levels)

Ran fast jump high do basic heal when leg hurt from high jump as specialisation sleep now and then. AND SUDDENLY there are MINOTAURS AROUND ON EVERY ROAD AT MY STARTING TOWN to which i do exactly 3 damage with my sword bow knife and MAGIC. Grandiose design decisions.

Yoooo, I always played a blue argonian in Oblivion too! I discovered you could do it after playing with the character creator way too much, and for whatever reason I decided "yes. this is me."

My greatest moment is saving inside the great gate with two and a half minutes left opening that save 3 years later and glitching upwards of the siege engine and sprinting the distance from one of the tower bridges finally beating the game after an additional 2000+ hours
I remember storing all my loot in a sack behind a stable. I completed the main game and crusader addon as a giant superathletic nord, excellent times, and then I discovered the SPELLCRAFTING, but woe is me! I was a Nord! Training magic takes ages...
FUN FACT: Almost all of the Oblivion towers are accessible via jank and athleticism! But most of the hard to reach ones are mostly empty of enemies, only sometimes having some lootable flesh sacks.
The amount of times I reloaded to try to make sure Barrus didn’t die is astronomical.
Like reloading for the Silver Shroud radio guy in Fo4

Oblivion is such a wonderful game. The magic is completely busted once you get to craft your spells.

I always forget that fast travel is available immediately.
It blows my mind that you step out of the sewers and can just teleport to your first objective in a game designed to encourage discovery and emergent gameplay.

I enchant robes of chameleon 100% and I walk into the gates and yoink the stones and defeat the gate. I laugh at the fact that the creatures inside are like wtf just happened.

I finally gave oblivious a shot like a month ago and played for like 2 hours, made to sure to save and I think I went to gym after that. When i decided to play again I was devastated, there was no save. I researched quite a bit but nothing I did worked. I decided not to play anymore.
Now I'll never see "Cloud Ruler Temple" without thinking about "Cathode-Ray Tube" TVs anymore.
