      Great video...Question...I only have $1100 a month, which pays my rent, heat and whatever food that's cheap enough to buy (hard to do these days). There is no other money...none...so how does someone like me learn this stuff.
      Before you suggest getting a student load to take a school course, I'm not about to get a loan to pay for a $35k course, will also have to include food and lodging and whatever else is needed in that, which raises it to more like $50k. Oh if you're wondering about the cost, I'm in Canada and that's the average price I was told 15 yrs ago from 3 different places, everything has gone up in price since then.
      Before you suggest paying for an online course from one of the many wonderful content creators here on youtube, that's only if I don't eat or pay my heat or somehow convince my landlord to reduce my rent by half.
      I'm currently reliant on video's such as what you posted here, to learn anything about modelling and animation. I"m using twitch to learn blender, since those helping me can see what I'm doing, I can ask questions and they give direction.
      So how does someone like me learn and create an animation of any kind of good quality?

      Hey Jasmine,
      I'm in Canada as well, close to the Toronto area. If you're working fulltime even at minimum wage you should be getting paid about $2500/m. So first step would be to increase your income because no one can live off of $1100/m in Canada and have anything left over. Once you have some extra income you can put aside, and you know what you'd like to do as a career, the best move would be to attend an online animation academy or school.
      Institutional schools cost 10-20x more and give you more general knowledge instead of laser focusing on one topic. They're good for people who aren't sure what they'd like to do and to make connections. Online schools beat everything else. Especially in this industry where you don't need a degree to get a job, just a demo-reel (for 90%+ of jobs).
      Outside of that, just wait for some promotions for some extra savings. We're also going to be having a Black Friday sale on the 23rd, I'm sure other courses and schools will as well.

      @@BrianKouhi The reason I followed you is because you're Canadian, I'm in Newfoundland. Right now I'm concentrating on making Christmas gifts (I'm a crafter, of many things lol), as well as helping my daughter after she has her second child (due Christmas Eve). I haven't worked in 5 years due to cancer and all things related, diagnosed right when the pandemic was announced. I only recently got the all clear and suppose to be on old age pension in about a year or so. Kinda leaves me out of the loop for work, not many hire people my age.
      Added to that I need a new graphics card, I'm currently using an Nvidia 650, not exactly doable for animation. Need to make sure I can get that before paying for an animation course. My computer is fine, at least for now, it's similar to an i5 (my son in law put it together for me) with 32 gigs of ram. No point in increasing the ram unless I can get the graphics card. Recently had a new power supply replacement, so I think I'm good there for now. Everything centers around the graphics card, cause if I can't get a better one, I"m not going to be doing animation, unless it's like 30 seconds long or less.
      Every time I think about what needs to be done to get to the point I can do an animation, I get overwhelmed and money stops me in my tracks. I make do the best I can with free things, like programs, addon's and of course all the youtube video's creators put out. If you want to know what I've done the past 10 years, rendering in Daz and modelling in Hexagon (extremely outdated and the reason I started using Blender) you can check my deviant art, just look for IAmFaerylWomyn.
      For now I'm stuck with whatever is free, which is not bad, just limited in some area's.

    I'll have to use more references and stop splining too quickly or thinking big without a solid base. This video reminds me of all my shortcomings

      i used to have that mindset, until i changed it and used others artists work as inspiration to make my pieces!

      @BrianKouhi  Před 9 měsíci +2

      I agree, using other artists work as inspiration to work harder and push yourself is the way to go. There's always going to be someone better than you in any industry or any walk of life, any other mentality will just make you not want to pursue anything.

    You kinda touch on it with "all things moving at the same time" - cos yep, overlapping actions are key - but yeah, never let all joints stop moving on the same frame. Honestly, the thing that screams "cheap/hurried animation" at me is static frames. I hate when a character is completely static; all movement in all joints has stopped - especially after a move. Character just has to turn head? Great: but when their head stops turning, make sure some other part of their body has started moving, even if super slowly / subtly. Plenty of situations these days where animators just don't have enough time to do what they want to; you've gotta get a minute of anim out per week (!), so you basically block and render. But if you have time for nothing else at all, just grab one of the spine bones and add some really low frequency noise to it (so, subtle swaying, peak to peak of a few seconds, amplitude just enough that you can tell if you're looking hard). Same with the head - just add a tiny bit of slow noise to a neck bone, so the head is constantly moving very slightly, very slowly. Or do it with keyframes - one every few seconds, just a degree or two of sway back and forth. Takes seconds, but adds instant life to a character

    Cough, welp. Then there's me. Who jumped straight into fight animations, well calling them fights is a stretch.
    But I'll say one thing. If you're going for something more cartoony or anime like, then you shouldn't focus too much on realism. Some of those mistakes make them what they are.

    One question:What's the target for the course?If i'm a begginer,can i apply?

    • @BrianKouhi
      @BrianKouhi  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hey Nicol,
      The course is very beginner friendly, no animation or Blender experience needed.
      We actually have our last sale of the year happening right now (started today). If you're interested use code BF2023 at checkout for 20% off. I believe there's around 25 out of 50 codes available at the time of this comment.

    To learn references, should you watch the animation film itself or watch the animation film analysed by the animator? The problem is that I found video content that explains the movements of animated films from the video content creator.

    • @BrianKouhi
      @BrianKouhi  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Both are good. But learning is best when you do things yourself. Try to animate following a real life reference and you'll learn plenty.

    • @wildanimasi
      @wildanimasi Před 9 měsíci +1

      ooh I see... then what about when I'm still learning on ball animation? do I still have to watch references or later when I've entered the discussion on character animation.
      The problem is that I watch animation, learning it is only watching not practicing. should I finish learning ball animation first?@@BrianKouhi

    • @BrianKouhi
      @BrianKouhi  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@wildanimasi yep, it's best to learn the basics like ball animations first, and once you're learning character animation then you can start studying and following along with references.

    Hey Brain what's your thought about AI

    • @BrianKouhi
      @BrianKouhi  Před 9 měsíci +3

      I think it will be a tool to help animators, making the process faster and thus a few people could create a relatively large project with the assistance of AI.

    Im gameplay animator with more than 5 years exp in Vietnam, is it hard to find a job in that field in Canada? I will coming to Canada next year as a web dev student again haha, just to get a foot in your country then coming back to animation if I get a chance.

  • @MyErima
    @MyErima Před 9 měsíci

    I'm just at the beginning of the video but i have to correct something, The goal of animation is not to make something cartoony and believable, it's simply the latter as there multiple usage for the "MEDIUM" of animation. This statement makes animation into one thing which it's not. You're not wrong on your points tho , just the statement

    • @BrianKouhi
      @BrianKouhi  Před 9 měsíci +1
