To not scream out WHAT A GOAL!!! to Dion's second was appalling. Hardly mentioned him when he scored, mainly talked about Carbone's cross. UTMV. And thanks Dion. Special moment.
I was there as a Villa supporter, but could only get a seat among Spurs fans, so had to try really hard not to stand up and cheer every time AV scored.
Two great goals by Villa. They refused to buckle under in the second half and fought every inch of the way to a deserved victory. As for Spurs, they had a decent forward line, but their powder puff defence and ploddy defending was always their Achilles heel. In fact, their defensive failings characterised most of the Spurs teams until Redknapp took over.
Spurs teams in this decade always boasted a couple of outstanding players, but the midfield was always frankly mediocre and the defending was often shambolic. The idea according to Sugar and his managers was that two really good players in the team would help you win trophies. Wrong! Ginola & Anderton were wasted. They deserved to play in better teams. Spurs lacked a decent defence and midfield. No good having gaolscorers if you can’t defend! That would be the curse of this club under Sugar!
Armstrong was a massive disappointment. He would never find any consistency. He missed countless chances to score! Sadly, he was often injured which blighted his career. Spurs defending in these years was often shambolic and this match wonderfully demonstrated how bad Spurs were at marking and tackling.
Aston Villa should have been right up there with Manure throughout the 2000s. If only Ellis released the funds for Van Nistelrooy and others like Gregory wanted.
Another Spurs team with an anonymous midfield, and mediocre full backs, and where the tackling and marking was poor. This was the narrative of the 1990’s before ENIC took over the running and management of the club from Sugar.
3 great goals from Villa, not given full justice by the commentator!
Spot on TSBC!! Jonathan Pearce would have exploded :o
@daveorourke77 football True, every time Villa Scored ''it was a disaster for spurs.'' Instead of a great comeback by Villa.
