A good example of the importance of a FBD is the Kansas City Hyatt Regency Skywalk failure that killed over 100 people. A simple FBD done before a construction change to a connection that doubled the load on the connection of a suspension rod to a cross beam could have prevented 100 deaths.
If a wealthy person wanted to donate a large sum of money to a good cause, it would be to Jeff Hanson so that he could make full course videos like this for every engineering course.
Well, try to calculate Ex using the second free body, you'll find Ex equals 3332.77 Ib, which is confusing!
DR. Hanson, thank for a detail analysis and powerful explanation of a more Difficult Frame Problem using techniques in Statics.
Just aced my exam thanks to you. Thank you so much Dr. Hanson!
my exam is on 27 this month ...
@@viscosityrdx5321 mine is on the 21st of this month
I love those videos, there is just so much commercial. Still great professor! Wish you were on my university!
Studying for my PE exam, this is a great refresher
Best teacher ever !!
In my HS Physics class, a cow was a sphere. Here, a billboard is a potato. Seems legit.
thank u for clearing that up
Saviour of classes
i love your content, if there's anyone helping me pass my engineering courses, its YOU! THE GOAT !!!!
one word : awesome
at 8:00 why dont we say that the equillibrium forces in the Y direction are zero since there is no Y directional external force
The application of the external horizontal force causes vertical reaction forces at the supports due to the moment arms of where that external horizontal force is applied. That is why it is always best to do the FBDs so that way you always know what is going on since the absence of a external vertical force doesn't always mean there aren't vertical reaction forces.
Well, try to calculate Ex using the second free body, you'll find Ex equals 3332.77 Ib, which is confusing!
While identifying the 2 force members, why didn't we count BE and EF as 2 force member? It also has pin connections at both end.
at B there are three forces, BA, BE, and BC. Similarly at E there are 3 forces, EF, EB and ED. So they are not two force members
Do you have any videos on how to solve wrench questions?

pur3spartan157 yes I watched that but that’s not a wrench problem it’s a frame problem
Sure Philippians 4vs 13💪💪
Should be a distance of 21.54 not 21.55. Was confused when you came up with 1723.8. ALL GOOD though
._.
its a distance of 21.547, so he rounded up. regardless, .01 is not rly a major error
