    Good review. I'm trying to figure out something that would work. Maybe need to design a backpack specifically for it.

      Thanks! You might be better off trying to design something to attach to a chest mount rather than designing a pack. A pack moves is one more thing on top of your body that moves around and can cause jitters & unwanted movement.
      I've been meaning to trying mounting my selfie stick to my Stuntman chest mount using the 1/4" threading in the selfie stick and just wearing the chest mount backwards.

    Thank you for this Video.🤙
    I've already tried the hip belt mount and I think after your video I'll test this variant too.🤔
    With the hip belt you have the problem that you have to use the longest rod and the video shakes quickly.
    Have you ever seen/tested a shoulder mount?

    • @GnarlyBearMTB

      Thanks for watching! i've never seen or tested a shoulder mount. One benefit I could see is you could see the arms a bit more since you're off to the side. However the asymmetry might bother me.
      FWIW the footage of me using the "long" stick is actually off to the side by quite a bit due to how I mounted it. This makes it more like a shoulder mount than the footage of me using the shorter stick. It was a few degrees off to the side and that makes a big difference when you attach a 2.5 foot pole to it lol. You can actually see it almost hit a rock off to the side of the trail at 05:19.
      What shoulder mount did you have in mind? I'd be curious to check it out. One other option I'm thinking of is simply mounting my chest cam backwards and getting and adapter with male 1/4 inch threading to let me attach my insta360 collapsible stick to it.

      @@GnarlyBearMTB Thanks for the detailed feedback.😁🤙
      Unfortunately I haven't seen a shoulder mount yet, but I'm thinking all the time how I could implement it.
      Flipping the chest strap won't really work I think, I tested the back/hip mount from Insta360.
      The mount from Insta360 was very robust and stiff, but wobbles to see, I think it is more suitable for motorcycling than for MTB.🤔

    thanks for the video. Wandering if you had any tips for me as I'm new to this and am riding an electric hydrofoiling watercraft with handlebars - trying to capture unique footage, specifically while offshore whale watching and heading into rough seas and trying to capture what that is really like for potential customers. You mention a chest mount? I've so far just captured footage by tapping the selfie stick to my upright handlebar right in front of me. Really appreciate any advice you have

    • @GnarlyBearMTB
      @GnarlyBearMTB Před 10 měsíci

      For sure! The chest mount will look better than a handlebar mount because it immerses you more in the view of the person riding. Handlebar footage always looks "flat". The only time you might want to use a handlebar mount is to capture the expression on someone's face.
      As far as third person mounts like the one in this video go... you can try getting a chest mount with a screw-in adapter like the "stuntman" and then mount the stick to the chest mount. That way, you don't need to wear a backpack.
      Ideally though, you'd probably find a friend with a drone and have them follow you.
      I see five main shots you can get.
      - Camera with telephoto lens from the shore
      - Action camera mounted on chest
      - Action camera mounted on handlebar capturing someone's face
      - Action camera mounted with a third person view
      - Drone / Chase Cam. FPV drones look more exciting.
      Here's a video of mine where I capture with three different types of shots. Unfortunately, drone laws on Colorado MTB trails are pretty strict so there aren't many places I can fly. czcams.com/video/hdC7-0-0wAI/video.html
      Here's a video my friend took of "chase cam" using a first person drone: czcams.com/users/shortsU2OcAJK0uSI
      Depending on where you're located, I have a friend who might film this for you for a cost. He's a videographer who also mountain bikes and hydrofoils. Let me know if you're interested!

    You forgot to mention if it comes with the bag. Secondly, which one should one get, this or the other waist strap that needs no backpack, which one is better & how do they differ from each other? and lastly, you only showed us the front view, I thought it's 360, was it possible to view what's happening behind you for instance other riders coming from behind you? that would have been awesome.

    • @GnarlyBearMTB
      @GnarlyBearMTB Před měsícem

      It’s a 360 camera so you can everywhere, including behind the biker.
      I have not reviewed the waist strap but it looks promising! It’s kind of a hassle to set up the backpack mount with your backpack, so the waist strap could be better in that regard. It seems a lot simpler while providing a decent perspective. I may have to try it out! Thanks for the suggestion.
      The product is a “backpack mount” so it does not come with the osprey-branded backpack shown in the video.

    its good for rock climbing too,can you use it without the backpack?

    • @GnarlyBearMTB
      @GnarlyBearMTB Před 6 měsíci +1

      No - the straps only work with a backpack. If you’re handy with sewing you could modify this to go on your back, though. You’d need to make new straps.
      I’d really like to see this made to mount direct to my body. The backpack adds a lot of instability.
      Most people probably want the backpack though because you don’t want to wear this all the time. E.g. when you’re biking or something you’d only wear this on the downhill.

    How's the durability of this product and the carbon poles?

    • @GnarlyBearMTB
      @GnarlyBearMTB Před 11 měsíci

      I can't give an honest answer on durability as I haven't used it more than a few times.
      That being said, I'd suspect it's fairly durable just based off if feel. More durable than a carbon tripod leg. It's extremely stiff.

    • @GnarlyBearMTB
      @GnarlyBearMTB Před 7 měsíci

      It was the insta360 collapsible selfie stick. Not sure exactly how long but I’d guess it’s 5 feet or so extended fully.
