    I have 23 English volumes of OPM and just started with my Japanese journey with the 24th and I'm blown away honestly by what goes into these. The US volumes are neat but... wow was I not expecting the effort that went into these releases. It's really kind of a shame that the US doesn't get the same treatment or that they wouldn't at least find ways to give us the artwork through other means because this is really awesome.

    I have the first two japanese volumes of One Punch Man since 2013 in my collection and I didn't realize the 3D effect at all. Thanks for showing us this neat little trick and all the cool art under the dust jackets!

      Thank you! I'm glad to know you enjoyed it!
      The 3D effect is a really subtle, interesting and creative detail that was added into the design of the dust jackets. Most people will probably not notice it, but it's great that the design team and the artist went out of their way to include such a detail, since it's really fun and makes for a unique experience. I love how much great artwork was sprinkled in throughout these volumes, it's a real treat since I love OPM.

      @@SaberStash Hi Mrandom101, I’ll respond here to your comment on my lastest video since it doesn’t show up in the comments section (for unknown reasons!), I hope this is okay.
      I liked the vibrant animation in Pompo the movie and the challenge of editing was shown in an interesting way. Funny thing is, part of the movie takes place in the Swiss Alps with all the clichés associated with it. The Heidi vibes are strong in this one ^^
      I didn’t know that Creepy Cat was done by a Thai artist. Since it got a Japanese release I assumed the artist must be Japanese as well.
      My senpai is annoying is one of the funnier romcoms I’ve read in recent years. I have a thing for feisty, tsundere-type female characters. I discovered the manga through an add in the background of Wotakoi’s anime adaption three years ago. I like Doga Kobo’s animation too, especially in the beginning minutes of the first episode.
      As for The dangers in my heart, I originally said that the Japanese special editions also contain the Twitter specials, but that’s not entirely correct, I was mistaken. The regular Japanese editions also contain some of the Twitter specials, but not all of them. The special edition of the 5th volume contains additional specials and color pages in form of a separate mini booklet. The English editions are the same as the regular Japanese editions. Volume 3 for example contains three short specials which are all inbetween the regular chapters. Hope that helps.
      I didn’t know The flowers of Evil is so hard to find. I was quite lucky then ^^
      Happy new year!

      @@Swiss_Bohemian Thanks for the reply! The youtube comment section has been very buggy for months now, I've also had similar problems when I try posting comments, so I know what you mean, no need to worry about it ^^
      Haha, I'll look out for the Swiss Alps references then, that must have been hilarious for you to see.
      Yeah, things can get sort of complicated with Japanese special editions sometimes, thanks for the clarification.

    It's so incredibly cool how there's so many creative little things going on with the alternate covers and spines alone. Here in germany we don't have slipcovers but we still have those neat little french flaps so we still have that cool 3D picture effect when opening the volume.

    • @SaberStash
      @SaberStash  Před 2 lety +1

      I guess it depends on the country and how things are published there. In Germany I've noticed that that the volume releases are more similar to the ones from the USA, with no dust jackets. In France and in Italy I think, they usually have dust jackets.
      It's cool that in Germany they included the french flaps since that way you still get to enjoy extra art work and the 3d effect. I noticed that in Germany the publisher there also releases mini box sets for OPM.

      @@SaberStash Yea that's right. We have these cool little slipcases or boxsets if you wanna call it that for OPM here. And yes, we usually don't have dust jackets for our volumes but the single volumes for Berserk for example have them actually. I'm not the biggest fan of dust jackets tho so I'm fine with not having them but it's still really cool how well done they are in the japanese versions.

    Damn, I didn't know that there's an insanely drawn art underneath the jacket of OPM manga. Yeah the OPM artwork is insane but the additional artwork is such a blessing. Never had an OPM jp manga but I do collect jp mangas for consistency purposes; art books and other bonus books contentwise which is related to the manga. I think that it will also support the mangaka better than buying the english version. What do you think about this?

    • @SaberStash
      @SaberStash  Před 2 lety +2

      I think it's definitely worth getting the JP version, as the volumes are actually really cheap and you get all of the awesome art work. Buying new manga in Japanese is 100% the most direct way to support your favorite manga series.

    • @ceejayvolante359
      @ceejayvolante359 Před 2 lety +2

      I see.. I'd really love to support the mangakas even in small ways, that's why I buy jp mangas, tho I'm not really sure at first if it did helped them. I also feel happy when I'm getting news that their manga is selling well. I believe it helps them to continue the manga and we get more chapters in return. Luckily, I have a friend in Jp who offered to ship the mangas for free! That's why it lessens my expenses for shipment and get to collect more books. Your videos made me more excited to get the mangas that are still in Japan. Thank you for your videos and for enlightening me!! Keep it up!

    You should definitely make a video showing your entire collection and could you please tell me about the prices? What site/s do you use? Average cost of a volume? Any deals? Shipping price and time? How much can $100 or $200 get you?

    • @SaberStash
      @SaberStash  Před 2 lety +3

      Thank you for the suggestion, I definitely plan on making a collection video, but first I want to finish the backlog of haul videos that I need to film.
      I buy my volumes brand new. The average price of a smaller sized shounen/shoujo volume is around 400-450-480 yen(for example OPM from this video). The price mostly depends on the publisher and the magazine the manga originates from. The 400 yen price point is not as common anymore, you'll mostly find it for older series, as the prices have slightly gone up over time. This is the price point without the Japanese tax included, as customers outside of Japan do not need to pay the Japanese tax.
      Then slightly larger seinen sized volumes typically cost anywhere between 540-600-700 yen.
      Then there's the larger A5 size factor, volumes from that size are typically between 800-900-1000+ yen, it depends what the release is. For example fancier kanzenban releases in this size can be pricier since they have higher quality paper, all the color illustrations included and other fun design features (cost for kanzenban volumes is typically around 1200-1400 yen).
      The main website I used in the past was honto.jp, but they replaced their cheap shipping option with a more expensive proxy so I stopped using them. What I use nowadays is Amazon Japan, since it is the most convenient way for me to ship items to my location.
      The Amazon shipping costs are pretty high I'd say, but they're still by far the cheapest option I have for my region right now. I live in Europe as a side note.
      Amazon Japan makes it super convenient for me, as I pay a set price upfront for the manga, for the shipping and also the custom fees, so it makes things much easier for me. Although the shipping cost will be very different depending where you live, so you'd have to check on their website to see the rates for your country, also the service where you can pay upfront for the custom fees is not available in all countries, so that's also something to keep in mind. If I make an order, I make sure the total cost is under 150 euro since I need to do that to avoid any other crazy custom fees. Keeping that in mind, for example for orders I made in the past from Amazon, with 27-28 mostly shonen sized volumes, the shipping cost was between 5400-5700 yen on average. For about 12000 Yen (approximately 105 USD), I can easily buy around 27-28 manga volumes, without the shipping cost. So with the shipping cost added for a 27-28 volume order, the cost is around 165 ish dollars. Again, I live in Europe so I have no idea what the costs would be for you. For example, if you live in the US region, you don't have to worry about custom fees and stuff like that, so you can just save money and make one single massive order instead of having to split things up like I do.
      I've also used CDJapan.jp in the past, they're a great option as well, they have a shipping cost estimator on their website for any region.
      You can get deals if you hunt for second hand Japanese manga, since those tend to be even cheaper. For me there is no easy and convenient way to buy second hand manga. If you live in the US for example, then you'll have way more options, even on Amazon Japan since sellers are more open to shipping to the US. A good trick is to get a bundle I guess with every volume from a series.
      If you want to find manga on websites like Amazon Japan or CDJapan, you need to go to an anime or manga database(or Wikipedia) and copy and paste the Japanese name title in the search field, for best results.
      The shipping time for me is typically under 10 days since Amazon JP uses DHL.
