    As someone thinking about getting back into bikes after a long hiatus (last ride was a 916), I genuinely appreciate your articulate and candid reviews. Your enthusiasm is clearly authentic and your conclusions are valuable for those of us who will be riding largely on the street. Re this most recent review, it is great to know that Ducati (much like Ferrari) have real quality control systems in place and the likelihood of critical parts literally falling off a bike within 20 minutes of taking delivery is minimal. In the 1990's, my 916 shed its shift mechanism on day one and then stranded me in a variety of inhospitable locations due to its infuriatingly weak voltage regulator, twice in West Virginia returning from Summit Point raceway. The good old days! Keep up the good work.

    Great review. I was as amazed as you when I rode one. I managed a 5 hour ride while my 1299 was serviced. Got of with no aches and pains 😁. Like it so much I've traded my 1299 in for a supersport s s in red. Can't wait 😁😁

      yes the LED strip does look really good but I don't like how the lights are kind of double stacked...it reminds me of the multistrada more than the panigale and I personally just don't think it looks good. Other than that, seems like an AMAZING bike.

    Nice review. I did a test ride on the Supersport and loved it too. I just dropped a deposit on the white Supersport S so it should be here in a few weeks as there are a few on the way to my local Ducati dealer. I think there is plenty of power for the street since the torque hits in the low rev range. The bike feels good and handles great. Nice and nimble. You can buy much faster bikes and better tourers too, but none of those have the combination of power, handling, ergos and good looks of the Supersport bike. It is just a great all around bike.

    • @jhazelw
      @jhazelw Před 7 lety +1

      No, but the ZX-14R is has 200hp, but it weighs 130lb more than the Supersport. Plus, the ZX-14R is way uglier in my opinion. The ZX-14R might be more comfortable for longer trips, but I cannot be sure of that unless I ride it. For me, it is just too ugly and heavy to bother with. Plus, I hate green so Kawasaki is pretty much out of the question for me.

    • @coolvideo28
      @coolvideo28 Před 7 lety

      I am not a fan of the green either. The one I am looking at is a 2016 ZX14R SE it is all black. Take a look at it. I thought you might have road one if you have not thanks have a great day.

    • @mathias6423

      @coolvideo28 Před 7 lety

      Have you ever road a ZX14R? I think that the Ducati supersport head lights, the fairings, the wheels and even the mirrors are real nice! but the cheap plexiglass looking windshield and whole tail end of the bike are hideous in my humble opinion.

    • @Spectolux
      @Spectolux Před 7 lety +1

      A quick visit to Ducati's site reveals very few differences comparing the Supersport S to Hyper SP. Same horsepower, front & rear sprockets, same 4.2 gallon capacity fuel, same warranty, valve check mileage, displacement and suspension. Differences - Hyper has higher compression ratio (13.1:1 and 12.6:1), Hyper has slightly more torque, S has quick shift, different clutches (slipper to wet multiplate), predictable difference in front and rear travel, S weighs 14 more pounds, Hyper seat height is 35" and S is 32"and Hyper has .8" longer wheelbase. Not to mention the ergos of the two bikes are much different and since the Hyperstrada is being discontinued (or so I've heard), the panniers one can buy for the S will likely offer the sport touring option in the lineup. Note that there is no Bosch lean angle tech on either bike. I was considering the Hyper SP, but now will be taking a closer look at the S. In spite of the price and the usual alternative choice fanboy whiners, I like the concept, looks, the intangibles and the Ducati growl, of course. Thanks for the review, Duke.

    @monstermikemotovlogs4248 Před 7 lety +1

    Great review, as always Duke. I was at Coleman - FC on Saturday and rode their demo SuperSport. I really liked the bike! The QS was soooooo smooth. The ergonomics were perfect. My only concern was the power, or potential lack thereof. You could definitely feel the low end torque, but I wasn't able to get a sense of how it would perform on the highway. The damn demo ride course was predetermined.
    I know ~114 hp is more than I NEED, but with the numbers some modern bikes are putting out, I can't help but feel like I'd be overpaying. And though it was amazingly agile, it's definitely not a light bike.
    Decisions, decisions. Anyway, ride safe my friend.

And it looks and sounds much better n real life than on the pictures and vids.Drive safe, have fun!

    Duke, nice review. As the proud owner of a 2014 Honda VFR800 Deluxe (purchased gently used from MOD) I must comment that in my opinion Ducati has used the very successful, long production history and loyal following of the VFR as a design inspiration for the new Supersport. The specs on my 2014 VFR Deluxe are: torquey smooth, great sounding V4 VTEC engine, ABS, TC, heated grips, center stand, full dash layout with gear indicator, self canceling turn signals, LED lights, Hollow cast wheels, single swingarm, adjustable suspension, Pearl White paint. I've added a few mods as well, Honda factory quickshifter (up only), K&N air filter, Two Bros exhaust, shorty levers, tail tidy. Great bike & sweet handling!! The Supersport is very tempting and is spec'd very nicely Olins, up/down shifter, beautiful styling, etc & slightly more HP than VFR. I missed the Supersport demo registration at Coleman so I haven't ridden one yet, but by your gushing review I really need to get one one to see how it compares to the VFR. If you see a white VFR coming up fast in PWC that's probably me. Peace.

    • @Crisisbiker
      @Crisisbiker Před 7 lety

      I own a 1997 VFR750 (previously I had a 1998 VFR800). I would like a sporty bike that is also capable of touring and it looks like Ducati hit the spot. I think you can get semi-rigid panniers as an option, which for a solo rider like me would be more than adequate for a few days away. Ducati have a hit on their hands here.

    • @cyclistman6358
      @cyclistman6358 Před 7 lety

      The SuperSport S is very tempting compared to my 2014 VFR Deluxe for several reasons. It has more HP & torque, lighter in weight, more electronics, up/down Q shifter & better suspension on the S model. But my VFR comes very close in those areas as well, plus it has the proven Honda quality, durability, pedigree and reasonable cost of ownership and I have the two color matched hard side cases for touring. I'm not so sure about the Ducati durability and cost of ownership. I'm getting over to my local Ducati dealer soon to check it out, but unless I get a really great trade deal on my VFR with low out of pocket, I'll probably stay on my VFR for now.

    • @Crisisbiker
      @Crisisbiker Před 7 lety

      I would say that the performance figures and specs don't tell the whole story and the VFR is still a great bike. However, I am not sure whether there is any significant distinction between Honda and Ducati in terms of build quality anymore.

  • @theloveman9
    @theloveman9 Před 7 lety

    I am surprised that you didn't comment on the mirrors. In the video, I could see that the left hand mirror was constantly vibrating (as it did on the one that I rode). I never was able to find an adjustment that gave a really good view of what was behind me--many places where another vehicle could hide behind me. Having previously owned a 1995 Ducati SS SP for almost 20 years (which had much worse visibility from the mirrors), this new Super Sport (to me) doesn't compare in terms of aesthetics, and on the old one you could remove the worthless mirrors and put on bar-ends or something else, but you can't hardly do that on this new one as the turn signals are mounted in the mirror housing. That may seem like nitpicking, but rearward visibility can make the difference between life and death.

    I'm glad to see Ducati targeting the audience that wants sport performance with ergos that allow touring. That category bike hasn't existed on the market for 10 years or so, with sport "styled" tourable bikes very watered down since then. I have a '05 Honda CBR 600 F4i with fully adjustable suspension and close to 100 hp at the rear wheel, weights 385 (dry) and very comfortable... and very fast (150). This Duc and the Suzuki GSR S1000F from last year are picking up where the F4i left off. However, the Duc is around 100 hp on the dyno. The Suzuki is 130+... for much less money. Is the Duc worth it??

      It's doable for a first rider but maybe a little much. If you want to start with a Ducati, maybe a Monster 696, 796 or even a 821 would be better and you'll not get bored with them anytime soon. I currently ride a 696 and been riding for years.

    Wow. Just when i thought when i couldnt choose between the s1000R & the 959 as my next you come up with this. Thanks buddy ! Best fckin dilemma in the world.
    So comfort is no contest i get that. This one's a lot more comfortable than the 959 and thats no surprise considering the 959 is a panigale. How would you compare them on nimbleness though ? At 450 pounds (~ 205 kg i think) doesnt that make it heavier than the 959 ? Does it feel that way ? FUCK ! decisions decisions.
    Also i come from HOT HUMID sub-tropical India where there is no concept of open roads. ONLY TRAFFIC. So i really need to properly consider which bike toasts my balls the least. Having said that i only intend to be a weekend early morning rider so hopefully less relevant.

    I also live in the DC area & test rode last weekend. Share the same sentiments- best bike I've ever ridden. Would you buy a bike of this caliber to tear it up on DC streets though? Our roads are especially bad this year. I also don't have the time to drive out to Shenandoah like I used to, so it'd be strictly urban assault and highway. I know it's apples vs. oranges, but my competitor for this bike is the new KTM 390 Duke. Thoughts?

    I'm thinking about this vs the Tuono as my second bike next year. All my riding is in the canyons on tight switchbacks and curvy mountain roads, the only commuting I do is to the roads themselves. Which would you say suits that environment best, and which one do you think feels the most special?
    I should also add, my rides in the canyons are typically 3 hour stints with a brief 10 minute break in the middle, so I guess that should be factored into the equation too.

    • @jonobnz7597
      @jonobnz7597 Před 7 lety +1

      if you arent buying till next year then you have lots of time to test ride both bikes, presuming you can find somewhere close to you to test ride them. I own a 16 tuono factory and will be test riding the Supersport S in June when my dealer gets one. If its REALLL good then ill sell or trade the tuono in on one next year.

    • @acaceres5788
      @acaceres5788 Před 7 lety

      Any reason in particular you're considering giving up the tuono? How bad really is the fuel economy btw?

    • @jonobnz7597
      @jonobnz7597 Před 7 lety +2

      Ariel Caceres - I'd only give up the tuono if the supersport s really spoke to me and made me have to have one... sound, handling, power would have to be super special to give up the tuono. Tuono has an 18 litre tank and I get 180km to the tank, so 10km per litre. it also gets hot in traffic. neither of these bother me because it is a weekend toy i use on twisty roads.

      DukeOfDC Awesome! That's the bike I've got and I enjoy hearing other's impressions of the Monster. That sounds like it could be a smoother QS than mine. I jammed mine down once and it didn't shift; when I shifted down manually from that point it went between gears. That's how I learned Duc's like deliberate shifting. I'd been shifting so lazily on my previous Ninja 650R.
