Williams Grove… Smooth? Tacky? Lightning fast? No dust? I have to admit… It’s a rather refreshing change.
This should be the world's premier form of auto racing.
It is to some people in the American Midwest. Places like Eldora, Knoxville, Williams Grove, Chili bowl and Husets Speedway are Internationally known.
If it got as big as say nascar it wouldn't be as fun and it would get more expensive to attend and to race. I just wish a few of the bigger races were on tv to get new people into the sport.

Track was just starting to get good. They needed about 10 more laps. Great show. Glad they towed east.

I was there. Notice what's missing - no dust!! Williams Grove is tired of people bitching so the track was almost too wet.
Agreed. The track could not be more perfect… Smooth, tacky, and lightning fast. But remember, those big wings that they run there every week are like blow dryer’s, and dry out the track faster than anything else. Nonetheless, the track could not be more perfect.
I guess not enough people were bitching at BAPS/Susky for Sunday then. that was about the worst I've seen.

Shawn Williford. Ran 1 USAC/CRA race @ Eagle Nebraska (approx 45 car field including Haud) . Very little 410 experience (borrowed -12 engine) . Zero wingless experience. Extremely heavy track (HATE). Qualified (no experience) like shit. Ran 4th in my heat to Yelley.(5 heats, top 4 went) Started 20th in Feature. When I got to 10th, saw #1 (defending USAC Champ Tony Elliott) went around the top of him in 3 & 4. Red Flag! On the restart, couldn't believe my eyes. I showed Elliott my hand. Elliott went back to the bottom going into 3. Went around him easier than the 1st time. I was screaming at Elliott in my helmet *_"You're not a CHAMP, you're a CHUMP"_* (no disrespect. I know he died in a plane crash) Finished 9th.
Ron Shuman came up to me and said *_"No local boy (360) has taken his top off and ran that well with us, you're welcome to run with us anytime"_*
I won 31 Main Events in about 8-9 years racing on & off. But that was the compliment of my career. Shawn Wikiford, you sure about that?

@@ChazISfat The name's Jack....Jack Shit.....The guy everybody claims they don't know. Every word above is true. My point was Ice Capades & Hockey has more commonality than winged 360 & USAC 410. (different sport) I learned as the night progressed. I wore double layer Simpson gloves. My hands were *BADLY* blistered after the Feature. That had never happened before. I was never very good. Not really. Just good enough to get a ride, where there weren't that many. It was my 1 and only wingless race. Against the best in the business. A guy like me shouldn't be able to beat the defending USAC Champion who made it to Indy. I was mad @ Elliott. I was mad @ life. I was mad I'd wasted my youth dicking around in 360s & a failed marriage. I was mad about what that night taught me might have been. My name is Goodwin.
It's weird to think how this actually has a lot more in common with Formula One than you might think.
F1 and Indy both came from sprintcars...so yep.

@@johncarl5505 he's kinda right. Sprint cars are what remains of the old front engine single seater racecars that were used all around the world before Cooper brought rear engine layout to F1. The sprint car racing world was finally split from "indycar" completely in 1971 and basically remained the same as it was, with the engine in the front.

This track has very long straightaway and tight corners. How fast? Good question. Non wing cars a lot slower then wing cars but I'm gonna guess 120 at the end of the straightaway.
Jerry Coggin i think thats a good answer. They clocked the wing cars before around 130s. Track conditions play a part. I/e slick or tacky straights and they slow as the night goes on cause of track slicking off.

Absolutely love Sprint car racing! It's the best racing there is and it's really a bargain for the race fan. I've had a couple of opportunities to go to this track, it's beautiful! PA fans are lucky. The grassy in fields are so different than what we have out here in Arizona. Rip Manzanita

Basically is. Long straights, tight turned paper clip. Rather boring if you ask me.

I live 25 minutes away from the track it's an awesome track
Think of it being like a quarter mile with really long straightaways similar to Martinsville.
@@AndrewTowne I love it. Been going there my whole life. Could the racing be tighter at times? Yes. But nothing beats watching the vapor trail come off the top wing when they set for a turn. Straightaways are incredibly fast there.
