      Warren's plan for student debt cancellation and free public college is completely funded by a 2 percent tax on the 75,000 families with more than 50 million dollars in wealth.
      The guy in this video wouldn't have to pay higher taxes for college under Warren's plan. And his daughter wouldn't have to work two jobs to send his grandkids to school debt free! And if his daughter did work two jobs, she could save that money for something else, like a house!

      @@mattblasco3978 let's look at the numbers: Warren's 2 percent tax on the 75,000 families with wealth over 50 million dollars would raise about 2.7 trillion over ten years. Total outstanding student loan debt is 1.5 trillion dollars. The total cost of tuition at public colleges is 70 billion a year. That is 700 billion after ten years.
      We could cancel all student debt, and completely federally finance public colleges for 10 years, at a cost of around 2.2 trillion. Warren's tax on the ultra-wealthy would raise more than that.

So this guy sacrificed buying new cars, going on trips, etc to make sure his daughter didn’t have loans and now Elizabeth warren wants him to pay taxes to bail out people who engaged in stupid loans? Why are you trying to hurt the hard working man that makes sacrifices to better his and his families lives at the expense of people who spend money on whatever they want to and take out loans they don’t realize they can’t afford. If so, I wonder how the East Asian community, an immigrant community, has a higher income than the Caucasian community. Are you closed off to reason and so full of hatred for white people that you fail to acknowledge and see that there are white communities throughout the USA like Appalachia that are in severe poverty. Believe me, they are not living great lives. College is a choice; you were not held at gunpoint and forced to go to college. You, myself, and any other college student did not wake up one day and found ourselves at a university that we did not applied into and signed on the agreement from the bursar's office. Whether or not you were so ignorant enough to believe that you could go to college and immediately get a job and live your best life with no cost, was and is your problem to bear.
      Yes, I do acknowledge that the majority of college students are Caucasian, and why not? As it stands, so is the majority of the US population. Which means that the majority of that debt is held by white students. Let me also point out that the vast majority of US still does not have a college degree, which means that the majority of Americans do not have a college degree. I think your issue is that you saw rich and privelged students at your campus, or knew of, that had it easy in college and that they did not study as hard and were given many opportunities. Guess what, that was a class thing not a racial thing. That exists in El Salvador, where I am from, and all over the world. It is highly exaggerated in third world countries. Was if fair? No? but neither you nor I nor them chose to be born into the family or situation we were born into, thus the question becomes can you make it in this society in spite of the challenges of the socioeconomic level you were born into. Yes, you can. The problem is you are envious, so much so with rage even, of the stuff other people have that you want to steal, yes steal, so that you may enjoy and be the privelge and rich kid without responsibilities that you fail to acknowledge the anger and unfairness we feel for paying for other people's decision and situations that were in their control - a result of personal choice, not birth, genetics, or socioeconomic status.

Is it right to use any advantage to get ahead while others struggle to make a difference? It's legal but is it right? You are using right and wrong as if they are clearly defined. What you are actually saying is that you are doing the right thing for you and want others to see that you are doing the right thing and agree that it is the "right" thing. That's not how the world works. There are no universals. Some will agree and some won't.

      Duane Hellier I mean the majority of people are taught to work hard and save money so you and your family can thrive. It can be subjective right or wrong but his intentions were right because how would you feel if you worked hard for a car for years and struggle to even pay bills and then someone comes around handing out that same car to everyone else. It’s not that I disagree with you there is never a right or wrong anymore it is just that this father did the “ morally correct “ thing for his family.

      @duanehellier Před 4 lety +1

      @@louisfabiano8388 I understand that, but it makes morality an external ideology, determined by a governing board. As if we have no input. I think the decisions I make are the correct one at the time, regardless of the past or future. All decisions are made that way. It's why it's bothersome that we want to crucify someone for a decision made 30 years ago. It wasn't wrong or right. It was the best decision then. Maybe not now and in retrospect because things change. It's called regret. But, it should not weigh you down. And, that's my point. My struggles are not diminshed by what others get. In fact, if my struggles helped lead to future generations having an easier time, great. At least my struggles were for something. If we say "I struggled, so can you," that actually dimishes my efforts. It will never get better, and eventually my effort will get lost in the shuffle of irrelevance. so, if everyone got the same car I did (well, I wouldn't wish that on anyone my car sucks - lol), great. Awesome. When I need one I can get it free. Or maybe not. But, good for them. My bitterness doesn't apply to my fellow human beings. My bitterness is with a country of politicians who have not done anything to help it's citizens. The system is what needs to go. It has produced this disparity, which is the foundation of capitalism - disparity, division, social classes, amassing at the expense of others. The problem is that the people who benefit from this system are in control, and the middle class pays the price. Imagine a society where you are free to find your passion, get a job you love without having to choose one that pays you the most money, and you don't have to stress over your kids' futures. That cannot happen in capitalism where everyone is fighting over a finite number of resources (whether or not they need them - Bezos DOES NOT NEED the additional money from his new Amazon location yet is still raking it in anyway). We all have to remember that ALL resources are finite. I know it seems like money is limitless, but It isn't. If it were it would be worthless. And, when a small percentage controlls the majority of resources, those in the minority catergory suffer.

That's like saying that the money I got to save from those tax cuts was stealing from the taxpayer, it just doesn't make sense and isnt how taxation works.

Some people may have developed a mental illness and were not able to work, while the debt just increased. It's wrong to continue to hold debt over their head because they tried to further their education. This is where the United States is just backwards and super greedy. In Brazil, college is free (free, but usually reserved for those from higher socioeconomic statuses since they have access to private schools before college). In Denmark, college is free. And, in just about every other country, college is much cheaper than the USA. Like really, how can you seriously think that the democrats are destroying the middle class when Republicans have had control of congress for the last 10 years? They are the ones who lower taxes to the 1% and hide tax hikes on the middle class by giving out bonus refunds for just 1 or 2 years. After those couple years of bonuses on their refunds, the taxes go back to where they were and actually GET RAISED HIGHER.
      I implore you to look up articles from this month(not on Fox news), showing what the tax bill did. Im not trying to be condescending, I really want people to know the truth though. You should look up "2017 Tax Bill effects today" and just read whatever articles pop up. It shows what a sham of a bill it was and actually made things WORSE for the middle class. Please you guys.
      We can't just listen to one news station, we have to be vigilant in our research and use as many outlets as we can to learn. Please guys.

Your “future generations” argument would be valid IF say every child you pay for school actually grows up to be a doctor? Or a scientist? The reality is that these free rides through college don’t produce any more valuable people than you or me. So paying for someone else’s education literally makes no sense. You could be paying for someone to get a degree that they will do NOTHING with. You should try to educate yourself on economic risks and rewards. This is why the free market is so successful, you’re free to make these mistakes and figure them out on your own. It’s just to bad people like you are still learning.

    I told my daughter not to go to a liberal arts private college and she is now in debt to $60000 and the job offers in her field have a salary range of $20000 to $40000. But the college told her when she started that they had 95% placement and jobs were 40k-60k. Schools should be held accountable as well for misrepresentation of the facts regarding school debt and real job availability and pay scales.

      I agree the courses listed for a degree is at times useless to the career your studying. I was told I needed a ceramics course as part of my degree along with a language course besides English. I'm not interested in another language or being a pottery maker. I studied for my Construction Supervisors license and did fine with a trade. I took only classes I needed not what the college tried to push me to do. I have no college debt and I'm doing fine. Also whats not being spoken about is what the colleges are charging for a 4 credit course.

      How about cutting out the trips to Europe, or the Spring Break rituals? What is the cost of the European trips alone? My friend's kids both took numerous trips to Europe on their student loans, and grants. East Coasters spend their loans, and grants on a lot of nonsense that's unrelated to school.
