  • The SNP's Stephen Gethins calls on the new government to scrap the two-child benefit cap.
    The measure was brought in by the Conservatives in 2017, preventing parents from claiming Universal Credit or child tax credits for a third child, except in very limited circumstances.

    Poverty for everyone in Scotland has been the SNP's priority - and they have been remarkably successful at bringing it about. They're way too modest.

    And all these poor families have no mobile phones or 55 inch TV's or SKY? Yeah right. I worked on estates and went in these so called poor houses, full of the latest tech and always expensive trainers at the door. It's a scam for easy money!

      Some are irresponsible yes but for some TV and subscriptions are their only form of leisure entertainment. Some families have never had a holiday, never even been to a beach. Most have never been to a cinema or even visited our capital so the TV is their world especially for the disabled. Yes some are but not ALL. Some are working bloody hard just to make ends meet which people overlook.

      They lowered life expectancy, Educational outcomes, centralized everything and indebted the nation by the maximum they were able. The suicide rate is up, and house ownership is down, and division and hate, corruption and theft have changed Scotland forever, but the drugs are stronger.

      Get real - the last 14 years the national debt has soared into the £Trillions - that's since the Tories cam into power after a Labour administration managed to steady things after the Bankers caused a huge crash
      Where are the Trillions that have been borrowed, because they havent been spent on public services, or improving national Education, Health or growth in jobs - has it all slid into hte back pockets of certain politicians?

      @@tenmen-fr1sh a pandemic in which the freely admitted that there had been such large scale fraud in many of the contracts that were handed out it ran into billions, but it would be too hard to get that money back - like £37 Billion on failed track and trace, for example
      But the debt had reached a trillion before th pandemic ever hit - the Tories were already imposing austerity on the little people, yet increasing borrowing every year

    Taxing your citizens is not a means of raising money for public services. Governments raise money by issuing Government Bonds. Tax revenue is deleted. People need to get educated on this issue.

      The only differences between fascism and communism are nationalism vs internationalism and emphasis on extreme government regulation vs outright government ownership. Both oppose capitalism. If Farage is a fascist, it makes sense that he supports ending the cap.
