- Join me for a chat about The Legend Of Ruby Sunday, the latest Doctor Who episode and the beginning of the end. A lot of the talk we’ve had around the series has been on these big questions of who is Susan twist , Mrs. Flood and, indeed, Ruby Sunday. Well, tonight we find out. All, at least, we start to find out as it is the first of a two-part finale where we will say goodbye to the Doctor and Ruby after only eight episodes. That seems like, two little, especially since two of the episodes were a bit Doctor light. However, it’s now time to find out what Russel T Davies has had in store for us all this time as we explore the legend of Ruby Sunday.

Very good point about the rewatchability of the series. It's mostly a breadcrumb trail to the final. Many eps feel rather empty
I do agree with what you're saying here. Even though I've largely enjoyed the series, I'm not sure I can see myself rewatching these episodes as much as I do others.
This was a fantastic episode. Brings back one of my favorite villains from the classic series. Incredible
I haven't seen 'Pyramids' for such a long time, but I'll have to break it out again this weekend. I watched it so much when I was younger because it was one of the few VHS tapes I had.
If you look at the cast for the next episode a character with the last name of Sullivan will appear suggesting a child of Harry Sullivan
I'm glad they add in those things. It's a good call-back for those of us who like the original series.
I theorize that the appearance of Sutekh integrates a story from the comics where he takes on the form of his son Anubis--or it could be Anubis and we have not yet seen Sutekh in his physical form--just his harbingers/children.
It could very well do. You never know with RTD, he does like to slip some EU lore in there at times.
It also reminds me of the Sonataran killer satnav everyone was using.

I loved sutekh coming back
Yes, same here. Have you heard the Big Finish episodes he's been in. They're worth a listen.
Ohhhh kay then! Watching this felt like turning a jack-in-box, knowing something horrifying was coming, but turning it regardless. Excellent balance of tension throughout the episode. Very unnerving, and finally, the Doctor feels like the Doctor, RTD finally unleashes his mystery box, we get the amazing Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, and we got Lenny Rush! Love that guy! It does feel like this is a backdoor to introduce the UNIT show.
One bad thing was the "evil" speeches at the end got rather difficult to hear. Actually, you know the WILDEST thing about this ep? Ruby is confused as to why the Doctor wouldn't recognise Susan if she was his granddaughter, and he has to take her aside to explain that Timelords change appearances.... So up to that point she didn't know about regeneration, a fact that surprises me with a Doctor so fresh in to a new form.
Thanks for the comments. I agree with you, there was a good amount of tension building in this episode. I know everyone is talking about it but I wasn't blown away by the reveal at the end. I mean, I liked it, but too many people had suggested it for it to be the sort of surprise it thought it would be. You could be right about this being the backdoor for a Unit show. We'll have to wait and see.

The first half of this up until the time window scene felt really weird to me. It was almost like a completely different show. I dunno what it is, but with the dialogue, the weird robot thing, the litte scientist guy it just felt dumb. I'm also not sure why yasmin finney was even in this, she had no reason to be here. It picked up after that though, although the ending fell flat to me because he had given too much away and everyone had already guessed it was sutekh. I'm also wondering why he choose this bad guy as most of the new fans arent getting any emotional reaction from it lol.
I think "almost like a completely different show" is kind of what some people wanted. I do agree on the whole Rose thing. It's obviously a contrivance so they can get the character back but (like a lot of decisions this year) it does seem a little out of sorts with the series overall. I did worry that all the speculation would ruin things for people. I suppose the inclusion of him was so there is something for older fans, who have probably felt a bit left out during this run.
God Russell cooked this finale. It was amazing and such a good episode. Sadly I went on CZcams and so unfortunately I knew it was Suekeh before watching. That being said it still kept me on my seat and it is one of my fave parts 1 finale
With the low figures, I guess many people are waiting until the whole series is dropped and many people will binge it later on. I did see an article that the BBC figures have been met (well Russell said that so could be wrong) and he managed to bring in more younger audience, so while yes it's low, I don't think it is something to be concerned about. Well, let's just wait and see if Disney will renew 3rd series.
I'm wondering what the 28+ days stats will bring, although I think this will have been spoiled by the amount of comment on socials... But, I enjoyed that. I hope he manages to have a great payoff next week.

This is true, but less important to whether the BBC renews. They may not get extra money if things don't go well, but if it's hitting the figures for the Beeb, they are still likely to renew with either a reduced budget or with funding from another source.

I think, the trick is to script the bit before the review before the episode airs. Actually, I've spent all week in front of the camera, so I've got used to it, which helps.
That episode was pure hype and i loved it, and i loved it again this morning. Dont care if it was setup, it was brill

The episode was a bit rushed, the last ten minutes were the least enjoyable somehow 😅
All that speculation meant it didn't have the impact it should have done, I think.
@@BeyondTheSofa I'm all for picking apart an episode after the fact and even pondering the mysteries, but having to try to avoid spoilers online is definitely not helping new shows.
I'm also admittedly one of those CGI haters, not always but if I don't like it it's a big deal, it took away the magic from The Hobbit films (ignoring some of the story there too) and I wasn't even convinced by The Meeps added movements, I loved the backstage shots, so I was bound not to like the final reveal🙈
Every episode has been Doctor light as he isn't playing the Doctor.
I was vert=y bored for the first half, maybe 2 thirds, but the last but was good, if a little rushed.

@@BeyondTheSofa This entire short season is. I've been rewatching classic, and the 2 to 6 part story format works really well, is so much more... satisfying. They could do more 2 or even 3 parters and it would feel so empty because they could, oh I don't know, actually give us some character development and allow the story to be told. Even Space Babies was better than anything Chibnal did, but this season has still been disappointing and not very good Dr Who
There are major problems I hope they address later on. I said in an earlier video, part of the issue is that there isn't long enough to tell the stories they're trying to tell. There are several things they could do about that, but it will be beyond next season, I expect, as that seems to be mostly locked, script/timing wise.
Can't wait for the end of this series. No more time wasting.
Just don't watch it, I don't. Hate watching is only fun if it involves mates, pizza and beer.
It would be nice if the second finale explains how Susan Twist was the chosen one.
I'm kind of waiting for a big reveal that Cherry Sunday is actually the ultimate evil and that Mrs Flood is just some mad old woman who doesn't know what she's talking about.
