Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, Atari acquiring intellivision. mass hysteria!!
I came here to say "dogs & cats living together"!
I love how they didn't even touch the Amico, they really dodged a bullet.
Atari: "Yeah, you guys can keep that dumpster fire. Not interested."
Of course, if the Amico had been properly developed…
They're funding it though.
@@pferreira1983 ?
You cannot touch anything which does not exist...
I love the idea however what Amico wanted to do with the controller, would love to see this controller in a real Intellivision mini console!
Atari's skin has turned purple and they're collecting infinity stones!
It's only a matter of time before they collect the coleco stone!
SEA BATTLE!!! My favorite, despite the fact I was never good at it. Nice to have a one player version.
So awesome! Burgertime, Astrosmash forever!
I hope to hell this includes the Imagic portfolio, because a modern remake of The Dreadnaught Factor would be mind-blowingly awesome. Perhaps the greatest side-scrolling shooter the Intellivision ever saw. I wouldn't mind seeing remakes of Demon Attack, Atlantis or Dragonfire either.
According to a quick search, most of the Imagic portfolio is now owned by Activision, so likely not part of this deal.
@@GenXGrownUp What a shame, but thanks for checking!
Imagic was revolutionary on the 2600 at the time, a huge step up in graphics
An Intellivision retrospective in the same vein as Atari 50 would be amazing! B-17 Bomber!!
Beee Sevunteeen Ballllllllllmer!
Watch out for flack!
@@gassie62 That was not on target.
Maybe they will buy Colecovision next!
That would be great. Colecovision is the best 2nd generation video game system, enjoyed it tremendously.
@@samidekashOnly if they don't trash the acquired assets including the IP...
@@CP200SErm, what?
I wish!!!
Vectrex too
The big problem in retro gaming systems is developers think they need to be reimagined, and then charge prices similar to modern systems, which is why many of them are struggling. Focus on the classic content and features. Also a lower price point. I hope they bring out an Intellivision library that is classic and playable.
Bring on Intellivision+! The controller is divisive but the best way to play some of the games.
I wanna see an Astrosmash Recharged and a Berserk recharged those sound cool.
Berzerk: Recharged came out last year.
@@Really........ Oh it did? I was getting recharged games free with Amazon prime but that was not one for them so I just assumed it didn't exist.
My wife loved the Intellivision Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game growing up so hopefully we’ll see that.
I was also an Atari kid growing up. I'm less familiar with Intellivision though I've owned a few products over the years like Intelivision Lives! They could definitely do an Atari 50 style game, as Intellivision Lives is basically that. I can't think of any break out games for aRecharged treatment though. The Atari fan base dwarfs Intellivision and Colecovision. They both died with the video game crash, while Atari continued sales of the 2600 until after the SNES came out. It would be great to see an Intellivision collection, but I see a lot of value in the IP beyond that.
Mind. Blown. 🤯
Hopefully an “Intellivision Plus” like the 2600+ will be forthcoming! It’d be cool to use actual Intellivision cartridges in a new console that works on modern TV’s. And perhaps this acquisition will force Atari’s hand at finally reissuing the M Network games.
Really hope Astrosmash and Night Stalker get some sort of release as these are two that I love from back then.
Intellivision sold Astrosmash to BBG last year when they needed money.
Edit: Intellivision may have only sold rights to a future game, and not the rights to the original.
There are already homebrews of these. I own Dungeon Stalker for the 7800. It's worth the money.
Atari did Beserk Recharged
AstroBlast and Dark Cavern, as released by M-Network are 2 of my most favourite VCS games.
@@jeremiahthomas8140BBG is a weird company. They claim to own Boulder Dash but whenever the original games are sold, they are nowhere to be seen in the licensing credits. It’s very likely that what they got was the games that were supposed to be released for the Amico and a long term license to use the brands for new releases, although they did state they owned everything.
Fantastic news, thanks for sharing. Your videos always have a great energy, love them all. Greetings from a German fan. 🙂
I hope this purchase will result in another Mini console (w/ voice) that can play the physical media, I still have my original, but I haven't modified it yet for modern TV's. While I have loads of games, my top 3 (probably not acquired by Atari) were "Advanced D&D, A. D&D Treasures of Tarmin, and He-Man". Time will tell.
2600+ for Intelivision would be great.
Here where I live, the main consoles of the 80s were Atari 2600, Intellivision, Colecovision and Odyssey². Now think of a product including the (original or mini) cases of all those consoles, built-in games but also the capability to read cartridges, all in a woodgrain case. 🤯
The Odyssey² had a game or two that incorporated a board game with them (Quest for the Rings comes to mind), and I always wished Atari had done something like that in the day.
@@keithbk I own both games(bought in the 2000s) but never had the chance to play them. Were them any good?
@@keithbkThey did. The Swordquest games required the comic books to be solved.
I recall the day Tommy Talarico lied to us saying the Amico would play physical games. I recall the day I learned the truth of that lie.
That was the day I cancelled my pre-order.
I don’t really get why this acquisition is a big deal though unless Atari goes the 2600+ route with Intellivision. I’d be on board with that if it happened. Just imagine…🤔
To quote _the Highlander,_ "there can only be one."
We're getting closer!
Yeah, it's really starting to look like that. Atari just keeps lopping off heads, probably guided by the ghost of Sean Connery.
Seems like whoever owned the Atari brand has been loping off their own head for years and years. Hope things finally change.
You said it. @@nickpalance3622
Atari is the grandfather of game consoles. Love Atari
I was an Intellivision kid, so this is actually a little bittersweet for me :) But at this point, better for Atari to own this stuff than whoever was running Intellivision Inc. before. One thing's for sure, though; the Amico is deader than dead without even having the Intellivision brand attached. Now it's essentially the new Ouya, but at least the Ouya actually released.
Would love to see an IntelliVision+ console!
Awesome!!! High hopes! It is great to see Atari keep growing!
Atari finally wins over Intelivision.
Everybody win
In your face George Plimpton!
@@oaf-77 😂😂😂😂😂
It took over 40 years but yeah!
Some people who own a name bought another owned name from some different people.
Just bought at new VCS. Hope they add some Intellivision games to the platform
People buy the VCS??
@@SumDumGy Yes LOL, I own one as well.
@@jjcollins O_O
@@SumDumGy The VCS believe or not is about as powerful as a Switch , plus you can turn it into a PC and use whatever OS you want ( Windows, Linux etc ). It's easy to see why many people are still using it after three years on the market.
@@Joey-The-Chud I never understood its appeal from the get-go, as a console or as a PC.
Absolutely WILD news. Yeah Atari wants nothing to do with the walking lawsuit known as the amico... This is a way to kill it off without Tommy and team paying the piper. No justice in this world sometimes..
Space Battle, Astrosmash, Thunder Castle, Sea Battle, Tower of Doom. All titles I’d like to see Atari do recharged versions.
I've never played Intellivision, Atari2600 yes. Me and my friends just had Atari2600. I can't wait to see what the 200 game titles are.🤘🏻👍🏻🇺🇲
This sounds awesome. Hope we get loads of releases!
I also wonder if Atari will now do something with the "Atarisoft" titles they produced for Intellivision way back when.
Oooooh, I hadn't thought about those!
I wanna see an Atari/Intellivision/Colecovision FPGA Console with cartridge support and at least 1080p-out!
Every now and then, when kids come into the store I work at I'll fire up Burgertime on my PSP via emulation. I'll put it in their hands and say, "this is what gaming was like when I was your age."
I hope to see a Recharged Auto Racing and Microsurgeon. And Demon Artack, and Armor Battle, and the entirety of the Intellivoice games. The Intellivoice was one thing that Intellivision had over Atari. And before I forget, Thunder Castle! And the AD&D games, and...
It will be fun seeing what happens
Several of those I've never seen. Plenty out there for me to explore!
Probably good news, more plug & play retro systems hopefully. The Amico still isn't out probably because it looks like a footspar
Excellent video Jon thanks again 👍
I have been keeping up with the Amico purely for the fact that I wanted one at one time. Now I do not. Anyway this acquisition is huge and I feel like we will see something better than the Intellivision Lives! game we got back during the PS2 era.
I think there are some Intellivision games that the rights were given to another company who has put out updated versions of them. Unfortunately one of them is one of my favorites which is Astroblast. I mean I could be wrong, but I’m sure there will be a list of what games Atari now has under their control. Wild days we are living today!
Your T-shirt offends me because Pluto is missing….. Gen-X for Pluto. Lol!! 😂🤣😂 Great content!!
Enjoyed my Intellivision. My second system right after my pong console. Took a bit, eventually convinced my dad to get it for me, he was big into card games.
Atari put M Network games on The Atari VCS Vault Vol . 2 on the new Atari VCS as soon as they aquired M Network . It was easy to miss , but they are there and have been there since day one , I believe . It's just weird that they added it to Atari VCS Vault 2 after it had already been out for a while . It was kind of under the radar .
Seriously? I never heard a peep about that until just now.
The VCS is under the radar.
@SumDumGy_formerly_Tim_Walden Atari still brings new Atari 7800 homebrews to the VCS . It wouldn't take anything at all for them to drop the original Intellivision library of games to it . I barely touch my VCS , but when I do there are new games there .
@@MrPoestyle That kind of gaming isn’t for me. It’s physical games or nothing. I don’t buy boxes to go to the internet to play ROMs. It’s just not my bag. That’s why I’ll jump on a something like a 2600+ and reject a VCS outright. Now if Atari wants to do a 2600+ treatment for the Intellivision, sign me up.
I was a little kid and have had every console since Atari was first released. I had the Intellivision system and liked it. I would like to see Atari produce that system again and release it along with the library of physical games for it that it now has.
Yes!!! Please, PLEASE make an Intellivision game, akin to the amazing Atari 50! There are PLENTY of awesome Blue Sky Ranger stories, I am sure!:)
The 80's is Atari's market. Coleco should be included in the portfollio as well.
Fingers crossed! 🤞
Intellivision + console (just like the 2600+), Intellivision 50 (like Atari 50), recharged games of Intellivision classics and Intellivision vault of OG games for the VCS and other consoles...
Imagine the 13-year old me saying circa mid-80s, "I have a vision ... that Atari and Intellivision will be one same company. Will have unity and peace!". I think my arms would have ended up all black and blue.
Wouldn't you love to take a time machine back to middle school and tell all the Intellivision snobs about today?
Tropical Trouble is my favorite INTV game. The He Man game is fun and so are the D&D games
Maybe now we can finally get an Intellivision flashback or clone console with micro sd card that lets us play all the games using a touchpad controller.
I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner. Intellevision has been very vulnerable for a while.
This is great, but why do I now think of Coleco and the Jaws theme at the same time. 😂
I’m super excited about this. We may finally get access to the two witheld working 2600 AD&D prototypes (Treasure of Tarmin and Tower of Doom) as well as modern versions of the Intelly library we can actually play remapped to modern controllers. Amazing.
I'd like to see this lead to extensions and/or INTV style controllers for the Gamestation Pro and/or the 2600+.
I'll go ahead & predict "no" on that. Remember Atari has no control over the GSP (that's My Arcade). And the license agreement wouldn't have included any future aquisitions. Future versions like the portable? Maybe. As for the 2600+, that's cartridge-based and has no socket for INT carts. I expect all of this will roll into future products, but likely not backward to older ones.
Wonder if they'll do an Intellvision+ console or a run of new controllers in USB form to play the games on whatever platform they offer them on.
Intellivision flashback was a pretty decent retro machine. Maybe Atari can come out with a sequel
Should be an interesting endeavor. I am curious to see how this pans out.
This news made my day!
Can we get a 7800 version of Cloudy Mountain now? 😅
I have been using the Nostalgia emulator software to play Intellivision games for years. Astrosmash, Night Stalker, and Swords & Serpents (an Imagic title) are some of my favorites.
Can i be greedy and wish for an Intellivision + and a full Digital Eclipse compilation? I still have my old carts kicking around.
George Plimpton, eat your heart out!!!
Next on the list.coleco,vectrex...Magnavox odyssey games??
Would love to see Atari release a cartridge adapter for the 2600 plus. What's good for the goose... Hope ColecoVision is next. I would also love to see intelevision emulation on the new VCS, maybe even support some of the homebrews on the platform.
Of course, then there's the matter of the controller. I've got a feeling than an Intellivision+ is coming.
Intellivision was the second game system I ever purchased the first being Magnavox Odyssey 2. I would love to see some Intellivision recharge for games like Advance D&D, Trons Deadly Disc's and Nightstalker just to name a few. I was in my late teens when I bought these systems now I'm in my 60's I really enjoy this stuff I hope Atari does some good with it.
I take this as a WIN!
Another step forward to the proper care and appreciation of the things we enjoyed as kids … Thanks Atari 🕹️😎
This video startled me to such an extent that I nearly fell off of the toilet!
🚽
Interesting to hear. Can't really say I was ever an intellivision fan, but I have played a few of their games that I did like. After all this amico drama I think it's pretty funny how it ended up now. They said the VCS would never come out, and yet I own one which happily lives on my desk. : ). The amico is long dead, and most likely will never see the light of day other than those cell phone games they released. However I think a recharged of night stalker would be cool, and maybe astrosmash. I know many people wanted a new cloudy mountain game, although personally I was never into it, might be cool to see that one as well in the future. Probably a mini system of the classics as well....I could see that with the hardware Atari has been putting out lately.
More like the NHL-WHA merger for me
May be aware of the Intellivision just last year ,however I would like see a Intellivision version of the Atari 2600+
Night Stalker Recharged!!!
Hopefully we just get a classic and reimagined game compilation
I need some Tron, Astrosmash, and Night Stalker revamps from Atari!
This makes me wonder, do they even have the rights to the Tron license?
Good call on the DE collection
I wonder if there is any chance the Magnavox Odyssey 2 games might be something that Atari is looking at in the future?
There’s a British company called Subvert that’s been buying a lot of brands and games related to the Sinclair computers, which they own.
It’s funny because if it weren’t because of the bad administration of Atari S.A., Atari should be the owner of the Odyssey and CD-i games because the part of Infogrames that Subvert was interested in, included those games.
I always liked the M network TV commercial....
I would love to see them get coleco too and have the atari plus compatible with them all.
Like when Coleco made that adapter to play Atari VCS games on the Colecovision. I still have mine :)
This is great news. Maybe my dream of keeping physical media going isn't going to die with the Amico? Only one way to find out, Atari you just need to get around the DRM part if you want to make the games re-sellable.
Cool news. Now if they can secure Coleco!
So they can lose money on licensing for every game?
The only stuff they could use from Coleco without having to pay 12 different companies is the Colecovision BIOS and the crappy Telstar games.
Imagine if this happened in the 1980’s.
Great news!!!
This is very awesome news. I would love to see a modern Intellivision console and succeed where Amico failed
AWESOME!!!!!
B-17 Bomber was a cool Intellivision Title. Would love to see it again.
"B-17 Bomber" -AVGN
This is VERY COOL NEWS!
I always liked the Dungeons and Dragons games especially Treasure of Tarmin. I'd love to see an updated version of that and perhaps Eutopia
I loved Intellivision first and foremost for the Dungeons and Dragons games and secondly for Maze-a-Tron. Now just give us a decent joystick controller to play on the Intellivsion!
I never had the chance to play anything from Intellivision. Hopefully they bring back some classics so I can see if they're for me or not.
Wow!!!
I'd like to think this would include licensed games like Tron Deadly Discs and Tron Solar Sailor, but I doubt if Disney will play ball.
They can just change the name of the titles.
I have the PS2 disc "Intellivision Lives" which states that is contains "A complete library of 62 Intellivision games" and most of them aren't that good, so if there are another 140(ish) games, the chances are they won't be good either!
You may be right. I'm eager to see a list.
So cool I just want the whole Intellivison library on Steam with controller control options. No thumb disc or mushy side buttons! lol
I don't know why they'd do that but hopefully they do something with it. I had 3 Intellivisions when I was a kid, the original gold/brown one then a couple of the redesigned white ones. (there was some kind of rebates or promotions back then and my parants got them cheap). I still have all those consoles and the games somewhere at my parents house. The games I still remember besides the sports are Astrosmash and B17 bomber, the game designed for the voice module.
You don't know what Intellivision would do it or why Atari would do it?
I'd love to see something like Atari50 but for Intellivision so I agree with that. I'd like to see My Arcade extend their licensing to include Intellivision titles for the forthcoming Gamestation portable etc they'd work well with the numberpad. Overall I want to see more Intellivision products (games and hardware) to compliment the Atari stuff.
Really pleased to hear this news. The Intellivision name feels safer under Atari stewardship than that of the folks behind the sh*t show that is the Amico. I would love to see the Intellivision console given the 2600+ treatment, with a mini console released that takes original carts. Even better if they based it around the Intellivision II and then released new controllers, backwards compatible with the "real" Intellivision 2.
I never saw a battle between the two. There was no contest. I never saw those George P commercials. In the school yard you either had a 2600 or you didn’t.
Nobody had a ******Vision. Except my friend who had a sleepover around 7th/8th grade and we played Cloudy Mountain. And I had a Colecovision. But that’s it!
The nice thing about the 2600 was swapping games for a few days with your friends.
I alone had the 5200 it seemed. So before 8bit computing and floppy drives took over from consoles in those weird puberty transition years I was alone in the post-2600 scene and so I wound up playing with myself.
I'm wondering if the recent resurrection of the Infogrames name is in any way connected to this. I could see Atari changing their name back to Infogrames and then placing Atari and Intellivision as two separate companies under that banner. Just a thought.
Would love a new thunder castle game
Sadly, yesterday ends Intellivision's lineage of original programmers and executives. Original Mattel Electronics employees continued with all the companies that owned Intellivision, starting with Mattel Electronics, then Intellivision Inc, then INTV Corp, then Intellivision Productions, and to Intellivision Entertainment.
That said, it was inevitable this would happen as employees from the 1970s will not sadly not live forever. I'm glad that a company like the current Atari, with a history of shipping hardware, purchased Intellivision.
It will be difficult to port some Intellivision titles due to the specialized controllers. Space Spartans, B-17 Bomber, Night Stalker, Tron Deadly Discs, Sea Battle, the DND titles are some I can think of that made heavy use of the controller keyboards. I never put Atari and Intellivision in the same class. Odyssey2 vs Atari VCS was a more even matchup.
I've always liked Intellivision more than Atari, what I would like to see from Intellivision would be a new Flashback unit with HDMI and an sd card slot, that'd be pretty sweet, I have the original Flashback from a decade ago and it's cool but needs a refresh.
How about they do for Intellivision like the 2600+?
@@SumDumGy That would be pretty cool too.
I think Atari should rethink their modern VCS to support this acquisition as well. Maybe a VCS 2.0. Why? Because I love their recharged series.
And maybe we will see some intellivison recharged games as well???? 😎
I wonder if the Earthworm Jim game will appear on the VCS?
Good news!
