    DJ here - Just ordered a set. This will be my first set of SH's, so looking forward to trialing them. The best feature is to be able to put on driver behind my ear without having to move the whole headset. Love the review. Keep it up :)

    One thing to note is that the headband was incredibly uncomfortable at first. After about an hour of listening the top of my head started hurting and continued to hurt for about 15 minutes after I took it off. After about a week of pushing through, however, it became more and more comfortable and now I'm completely used to it.

    I have had this headphone for over 6 years. It was because of this video and a few others that pushed me to buy it. I am happy to report this headphone is still working. I DJ events every weekend for 52 weeks a year. I have never had a problem with them. I have changed the leather and felt pads once so for. Other than that. They have never broken on me and did nothing but serve me well.

    I've got a mate who is a DJ and I bought one for their birthday. They LOVE IT and use it all the time, especially the left and right cable input and the single ear-cup retraction for the purpose of what you've just told all the viewers. Using the Amplifier just made it even better.
    I'm thinking of getting one myself as I love my music too.
    Great review and keep it up!

    I got a Schiit Vali amp for these about a week ago, after having them for almost three months, and I have become a little desensitized to seemingly limitless bass. After maybe 85 or so decibels, I can't really hear the bass and these just massage my head, as well as move my ears around a bit inside the earcups (they surprisingly don't distort at all). I love 'em!

    I just got mine today and the build quality and materials are outstanding, the sound is very above par with this type of market headphones. I did find my ears wee sweating after a few hours of use this headset does warm up after long term use and they were smaller then expected but all and all worth every penny!

    Just got the hd8 dj. I will be using it for the first time live at the club tomorrow night. Will update you with a review. As a side note. Got a little crazy and wanted to try the ie80's to dj with. Very hard and poor choice. Didn't think it would work being the in ear type. So looking forward to the traditional headphones again.
    P.S. I still use my old HD 450's and can say that over the years have not found anything better. Want to see if the hd8 will take over the throne.

    hm... not really related to the video. but i just suddenly felt the need to say that i really like the reviews on this channel. straightforward and well structured video review, good glam footage at the start, and finished off with a pros & cons summary at the end which is excellent. personally i dont enjoy reading reviews, and the videos here are the perfect solution.

  • @djzammyz
    @djzammyz Před 10 lety

    I really appreciate this review of this headphone. Like all DJ's know that build quality is very important. (is it tough or not) DJ's go through lots of cheap built headphones. This being said, I just bought this headphone because of this review for the quality & built construction to last me the next 2 years. Only other headphone to do that is the HD2000 by Pioneer.

    I do favor the swiveling of the ear cups, though it tends to take some getting used to-like you explain in this video review, as a mobile DJ I prefer the durability of a headphone, the look, the swivel of these fantastic sounding drivers, and the comfortable difference between the two set of ear pads. Thanks for the review:)

  • @samcoop
    @samcoop Před 10 lety

    As a DJ, I find the swivel ear cups a great feature that I use occasionally when mixing, but when performing I find it much more useful. It's great to have, but can be lived without.

  • @jmoak311
    @jmoak311 Před 4 lety

    I dj with these and don’t use the swivel. I find them more comfortable just placing one cup behind the ear or half on the ear. When you swivel the cup back it really twists the head band and they don’t sit right imo. Having said that it makes sense to include the swivel as an option.

  • @koki246
    @koki246 Před 10 lety +7

    DJ here! I like them, but I still think the price is a bit much, because most of us DJ's would agree that sound quality doesn't matter that much when you're on the set, headphones are just to know what you are playing next... I would give them a pass if they were around 250 bucks!

    • @IMAXXHEW
      @IMAXXHEW Před 10 lety +1

      I agree... even though I don't doubt Senn's quality, all the dj's I've been acquainted with in the clubs around Vegas and LA would rather spend their $400 on a fat bag instead of a name.

    • @Kacefirex
      @Kacefirex Před 10 lety +1

      I agree. But remember about durability, hd8 are like a tank VERY STURDY .. Many cheaper headphones will not survive the test of time.
      and these accessories ... I'll write again hd8 are WORTH the money. More than hdj 2000 for example. in my opinion its better to wait and buy something for many years

    • @koki246
      @koki246 Před 10 lety

      Kacefirex Well yes, but I use 30 dollar headphones and they are made of plastic but I just put them in my bag after the set so they don't break, I've had them for almost 2 years.

    • @thundersh0ck
      @thundersh0ck Před 10 lety +4

      Actually I'm happy to hear that this headphones are overkill for Djs.
      I bought the HD8 DJ's because of all the good reviews of it's specific sound signature, looks and build quality ...and they match my gunmetal Phantom 820 and Logitech Z-5500.
      ***** Thanks for this review, this convinced me to buy the HD8 DJs and in my opinion the information given here is very accurate.
      Now tell Sehnnheiser to make a shorter cable (like 1m) and thicker ear padding and headband padding to replace them and make it perfect :P

Kudos on the video review HardwareCanucks!

    As a DJ, the swivel is the reason i bought the Dre Pros, but i find myself NEVER USING IT.. i still just slide it behind my ear…. it's easier that way to me
    I have already purchased these, and they are on their way, I did like the bass heavy Beat sound, but I just wanted to upgrade… and since i have a $200 g/c to a music store… i had no idea what else to buy haha

      if you love swivel design, and you like to mix fast. try the Beats Mixr if you like on-ear design. They are hands down the best to DJ with due to their compactness, swivel feature, and their very loud sound and bass response.
      They definitely don't sound as good as the HD8 or even the HD25. They are just made to be Headphones for the working DJ, not recommended at all for listening to music/movies - as the earpads get uncomfortable after a period of time.

    I know I'm late to the party, but one question; How is the sound isolation compared to HD25-1 II? I've been looking for a HD25 successor for a while, but I've yet to find cans that have as good or better isolation without sacrificing sound quality. Or having a bankruptcy-worthy price tag. Another set I've been eyeing is Philips A5 Pro.
    For me, passive noise isolation is #1 thing in headphones, together with quality. You know, 'cause neighbours suck.

    • @HarleyBussell
      @HarleyBussell Před 7 lety +1

      Isolation is better on these as they fit around your ear instead of just on top.

    As they are Sennheiser headphones, how do they compare to the Sennheiser HD-25 II? Those headphones are used by some of the top DJ's in the world, and have been given great reviews as well, while having a lower pricepoint than these.
    The swivel-mechanism/hinge isn't something new and is something I personally wouldn't prefer while DJ'ing. Moving the entire side behind the ear is easier and faster.
    The forward-pointing headphone band is quite unique, though it would require some getting used to.
    Great review, as always, and will be considering these for purchase after your recommendation!

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  Před 10 lety

      I had the same reaction for the first few days with these. I'm not a DJ but do take off one side of the headphone when need to hear the surroundings and as i edit day and night (for real), the swivel features actually grew on me. It is slower and less natural in the beginning, but the fact that the headband and the other side dont move (if dont right), makes it really seamless.

    • @IMAXXHEW
      @IMAXXHEW Před 10 lety

      HardwareCanucks That swivel feature does look like a good idea... but honestly, how many times do you believe the hinge will open and close before it gets hella loose and becomes the weak link or breaks?

    Interesting... When I'm on the stage all that matters is comfort and sound quality. I feel like they are trying to sell us on a feature that doesn't really matter (swivel without moving the band) I'm in need of a new pair I love my mid range sony mdr-v700 ($150ish at the time) only thing I dislike is that it's not very comfortable after a long period of use. So most important is being able to try it on and hear it perform. Overall I wouldn't doubt sound quality but the extra features are quite normal and one feature that if have to feel to actually be sold on. Waiting to see it on the shelfs I guess. Thx for the review!

      Great to hear from a DJ! Comfort wise, I've been editing with these for hours and while they are not as comoftable as my HD558 or K712 Pro that you just forget about, HD8 for its class are stellar comfortable. I would need to take them off for 30 seconds or so within 1 hour period, as they are ON-EAR plus leather ear pads.

      ***** Well i have a pair of HD558 and K712 PRO that are over the ear, meaning encompassing the entire ear no problem. The ear cushions on the HD8 are extremely comfortable, but my ears dont fit fully inside! That's not an issue for me. Just to clarify, the ear pads are much larger than say their Momentum line, so they are a mix between on-ear and over-ear, depends how big your ears are.

      Harley Norris Apparently, the difference in sound quality is not that much. It's mostly the materials, design and maybe comfort?

      Pooyan Manoochehry The Frequency Response on the 598 is a bit better but i dont know if that would amount to anything in real world since the 558 are top notch. I think the 598 look more premium as well shame they didn't do a black pair

    The best test as a dj is to wear it 2 hours with 1 ear piece swiveled back. See if it starts to hurt on the top of your head or if your ears hurt from being pressed.

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  Před 10 lety

      But i think DJs switch between covering both ears to one when mixing, so throughout the 2 hour period you'd be switching back and forth, dont think having only one side for the entire time is realistic.

      @thelittlemidistore1374 Před 10 lety

      The TMA-1's are very prone to breaking at the Headband. Consider the HD-25, much more superior in sound - has a flatter response. The TMA-1s are more accentuated on the Mids and Lows, lacking in Highs. The TMA-1s are good for DJing though.

Please, but me personally like HD8 but the Momentum have in line mic and the design good too, good for smartphone.. So Please Help Me.. Thanks..

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  Před 10 lety

      Ausmick Ardiansyah If you'd be traveling with the headphone i'd suggest the Momentum Over Ear! They are lighter, in-line mic, shorter cable and with superb sound quality. HD8 DJ i use when i travel and i wish i had the Momentum.

      So you suggest based on mobility of the momentum?? are HD 8 are much far away behind from momentum? But i dont know wheter u have try this before, what if the headphone have no in line mic , such HD8 or other, you plug in with deattach cable who have in line mic, just like HD8 u plug in with cable from Momentum?? is it ever work?? Thanks..
      sorry for my bad english mate. But in my heart i'll go with the HD8, since i know it dont have in line mic, but i just sayin.

      Ausmick Ardiansyah for EDM the Sennheiser Amperiors are better compared to the Momentums. As I can remember the Momentums are not designed for fast-paced beats.

    • @FacelessShepherd
      @FacelessShepherd Před 8 lety

      You could buy the V Moda BoomPro mic. Although if you want them to work with these headphones, you'll also need a 2.5mm to 3.5mm audio jack adapter.

      +Faceless Shepherd (Gaming) Thanks👍

    • @FacelessShepherd
      @FacelessShepherd Před 8 lety

      WAIT NEVERMIND! Since theirs a locking feature with the 2.5mm jack on the headphones, that probably wont work, sorry about that.
      Although there is another option that may work, the "Antlion Audio ModMic". It won't connect to your headphone though, its a mic by itself that has a magnet built in so that it can attach itself to some headphones. I'm not familiar with these headphones so I'm not sure if it will work. I guess thats as close as you may get with these headphones. sorry if i didn't help much.
