I was under the impression that they were going to do this at the stadium between quarters, similar to how they have contests at basketball games where the fan tries to make a shot a half-court.

There is no way the nfl would let them do that on the field. I thought it was pretty clear it was off site and gronk was having a party during it as well. The kelce podcast had mentioned gronks party during it too

It wasn’t even the first “live” ad in Super Bowl history! Snickers did one a during Super Bowl LI with Adam Driver in it, and in that one they actually mentioned the then-current score of the game (“21-3”), so you KNEW it was live.

Two big things I want to have answered about this.
Where is the confirmation that this field orientation is south to north? Additionally, the Gronk video that was referenced at 11:27 is in selfie mode. The video is flipped. Just look at the logo on his jersey and the writing in the endzone. So the wind would be going the same direction as in the actual commercial and in the other videos.
I was wondering this, too. This video assumes that the goal post is on the north side of the field and Gronk is kicking from the south side for some reason. The wind speed does match up pretty well with what is being shown in the commercial, whereas the east wind the day prior would not have been that intense.
This analysis was on par with a flat earther video.
The video just assumes the field was oriented north. Major flaw.

The video shows the wind in its proper orientation during comments about the wind, which would mean the field orientation was as indicated. However, the wind direction was opposite to that during the kick, which is where the discrepancy shows up. The real truth will come out soon enough.
They did a poor job of explaining how this would go. They made it seem like it would be live at the Super Bowl and did nothing to dissuade that. It felt very bait and switch how it came off, which only serves to make you doubt everything about it.
It was so weird how fast the commercial came on. Everybody at our house was talking about the recent plays of the game and before I could even quiet everyone down the commercial was already over. He missed the kick apparently, and we were all like, "okaaaay, what the hell was that?"
same thing here. Did not want to leave the room because I wanted to see the commercial. Figured it would be a bit longer than a normal ad. It was over so quick I was just left saying " wait, that's it?" It looked like a short dream sequence bit before the real kick...terribly done

I might've missed it, but was the orientation of the field mentioned/determined? Because "east" doesn't always necessarily mean "right". Lol. That would only be the case if the field was oriented with the field goal post at the north end of the field. If it were reversed and the field goal post were at the south end of the field, a west wind would blow from right to left.
Well... I was trying to do that myself using shadows and the sun's path. I am probably better off using google maps and looking for that facility myself... but that's extremely time consuming.
From what I can tell between the two pictures provided... the field is pointing in a southerly direction. Anywhere from SE to SW... I think it's South Southwest, assuming the picture with the sun is an afternoon sun. If that's true, then the wind direction _is_ going in the correct direction.
@@aralornwolf3140 I certainly believed your commentary on its premise but you've got to at least confirm this hugely important variable. My "chief" complaint of this video on my initial viewing had to do with the weather station you selected. The evidence you presented raised my suspicions but I'd be interested to see the surrounding weather stations presented as well. I'd be happy to assist you on this! Consider it peer review!

I'm not that _invested_ in proving this kick was a scam. The adverts I saw for the _kick_ were definitely misleading. I expected the kick to happen _at_ the Superb Owl itself... and it didn't happen.
The other thing is... couldn't Fan Duel get permission to use a _known_ field, say one from a varsity instead of a set in the middle of a desert? Fan Duel _should_ have the money to rent a field for a couple of hours so that the fans _can_ check the veracity of the kick for themselves.
This was entirely dodgy. This doesn't mean they _lied_ it just means it's extremely hard to prove that they were telling the truth.
That said, I didn't watch the entirety of Jaguar's video... I stopped at the "wind if it comes from the East should be moving from the right"... that was enough to show that the video maker didn't care about accuracy. As you said "click bait".
What's required is using google maps to _find_ the exact location of the mini-field that the kick happened at (preferably an image from the time of the Superb Owl itself). That's the only way to be _sure_ of the correct orientation of the field.. then check the weather reports of the closest weather station... it's a lot of work to verify that the video maker was wrong, on one of his claims, and the primary claim that supports his assertion that the kick wasn't live.
However, _if_ people made bets on the results of the kick... then _they_ might have standing to _sue_ Fan Duel for False Advertising which lead to Fraudulent betting pools. So it is important for _them_ to know for sure... I'm just not that person to do that for them.

Also in the Gronk video he made the video was flipped. So using that to say the wind was going in a different direction is wrong. Plus you can see the setting Sun so the assumed direction was wrong.
While I doubt the commercial and didn't care for it, you do have a MAJOR flaw. You're assuming Gronk is facing North. There are NO markers like the sun or stars to help indicate which way Gronk is facing. He could be facing any direction. You have a better argument with the 7mph wind than the direction of the kick.
Gronks phone video is mirrored because its a selfie, also if he was kicking south then the wind would be in the right direction. I'm also guessing a few frames of video can be lost when cutting between 2 live cameras

It's entirely possible Gronk took that video moments before he attempted the kick, and he only posted it on Super Bowl Sunday.

Also in the same video, you can see that the sun is setting in the left corner of the screen (over Gronk's right shoulder). This would show that the field was facing south, and that the wind was coming from the west

The “left to right” or “right to left” argument is worthless if we don’t know if the camera was facing north or south. You just assume it’s north cause “north=up”?
Also some valleys are wind tunnels. A weather station located a couple miles away could be fairly accurate but depending on wind direction it’s not reflective of the conditions in that spot.
Further, the short video from Gronk before the kick is clearly flipped. Look at the logos in the end zone.
Not to be a hater but this whole video is done on really shaky rationale. You were convinced it was fake and set out to prove that instead of looking at the evidence impartially.
Not all football fields are in a direct north-south alignment, you don’t know which direction is north here. Just because it looks right to left doesn’t mean it’s east to west lmao. Your whole argument ends there. The other comments about the mirroring are also easily disputing this
I like the channel, I like obscure NFL tidbits, but your videos are dragged out way too long, with super repetitive intros and analogies that could be cut to make the videos like 10 minutes or less which would help viewership. Keep at it but this is a new low
Stretched out long-winded videos such as these allow for more advertising breaks and revenue enhancement. It does nothing for us viewers.

I’m not sure I agree with your detective work (as much as I would like to). A couple questions: 1. Where is it shown the direction in which the field was set up? Without that, how do you know the wind direction based on the flags only? 2. How far away is the weather observation site from the filming location? There are many mesoscale (and microscale) factors in that terrain/land that affects the weather. That fact alone makes it difficult to assume what’s happening at a “nearby” weather station is the same weather at the kick location.

He was looking at the wind for 9pm.. because FanDuel advertised the kick time in ET, which would of been 7pm local, which is exacrly where the wind spikes on the chart. He wants it to be fake so bad he's ignoring real facts.
I appreciate the time and research you put into this, but as others have pointed out, there are some flaws in the logic regarding wind direction. You can’t confirm which direction he was kicking, therefore can’t confirm which direction the wind was blowing. The selfie video was mirrored and therefore showed the same wind direction as during the kick. I’m also skeptical about this being live, but I don’t think the evidence shown here proves anything either way.
It all depended whether they are facing north or south.
Except for the fact that Gronk’s halftime video showed the flags blowing the ‘right’ direction

I also found it weird that Pat McAfee claimed that he was never even asked to do this. He's so deep into FanDuel and a former pro punter with kicking experience. As for the kick, I thought for sure that it went right down the middle when I saw it live. After rewinding it on the TV I saw that it missed. I was shocked to see how much the wind caught that ball. Gronk put a lot of power behind it yet it made no difference that he started the kick toward the right. Awesome video! EDIT - Also, was there anything to that Twitter user who claimed that he got a notification 30 minutes before the kick or was he/she proven as dishonest?

The main problem with your statement that the wind isn't right is that we don't know the direction the field was orientated. The field could have been orientated so that the wind is going "opposite" what you're figuring. That's how it would be in a regulation 100 yard field - facing one end zone the flags would be pointed left, but facing the other end zone they'd be pointing right. But both would still be pointed to the same cardinal direction.
I think we all can agree that Gronk never landed on the moon.
I'm not sure I buy your analysis, as others have pointed out the flaws in your reasoning. However, I never believed it was live because of the video properties - it looked like something shot in 23.98p with film-like quality rather than a live ATSC broadcast.

How do you know they're facing north? The reddit photos show the sun low when facing the goal post right now in Arizona a low sun is in the south, it's winter. Also if they're near the mountains the wind can swirl.
The wind coming off the mountains is a great point - a 7 mph wind in that location would probably feel a lot stronger than a 10 mph wind where the wind is partially blocked by the stands.

So question, and this isn't a meteorology channel, but my first thought is okay, where is it in the mountains since I know from other meteorology folks that the mountains afect how the wind is around terrain and structures, but not quite how you'd think.
10mph in an NFL stadium not in the mountains is diferent from 6-7mph in the mountains. I'd like to see a collage of all the weather stations around where the set was, the terrain and height and see how the wind was afected by said terrain.
Not that I'm saying it was fake, just pointing out things I've noticed though. The sound on Gronk's vid sounds to me like the wind was a lot stronger than 6-7 mph, or, alternatively, his mic is....not the best.

Considering all they hype for the commercial, my first reaction was "Was that it?" I was totally unimpressed.
the better option was to have it be just before 2nd half kick AT STATEFARM, even if at a practise facility nearby and advertise the location so there would be a myriad of live amatuer footage to back it.
You're assuming the field is lined up north and south and that Gronk is kicking towards north. What information is there about the layout of the field?

This might be a bonehead comment but how do you know that what you were looking at was in fact North straight on? I could have easily missed that part I heard the entire part about the wind. But what if you were just flipped and it was facing south.. that would make it the way they said. There are so many other facts that you stated so more than likely I'm wrong.

Here's my theory (take it for what it's worth): It all comes down to which direction the shadows are pointing. In the Northern Hemisphere, the sun shines from the South, which means shadows would point North. Based on the two photos in this video, it looks as if the sun is shining on the back of the goalposts, and it appears (at least to me) the shadows were pointing towards the persons who took those respective photos, so I believe Gronk would have attempted his field goal towards the South, which, if that were the case, the winds would have been coming form the West based on the direction the flags were blowing on the goalposts.

So, um, the Gronk halftime video is auto-flipped (look at the FanDuel logo in the endzone), so the wind is actually blowing in the direction consistent with the ad itself and not with what the weather station said, so it seems unlikely that they were actually there during the game.

One MAJOR problem about the wind theory... how do you know that "field" and goalpost was lined exactly north/south east/west. If the direction of the kick was going south with a west wind then it would be coming right to left.

What makes this worse is the fact they are doing a second Kickoff of Destiny this year.
The field orientation can have an effect on whether a westerly wind blows right to left, or left to right. Do we know the field orientation?
If you closely, Gronk’s video at approximately 11:30 the fanduel logo is backwards which explains the direction of the wind appearing to be the opposite.

There is no way to know which way they filmed from, also the fanduel logo is backwards in gronks cam but no in the original video which means the winds should be goings even the other direction

Oh, that's the scam. I thought the scam was the kick was good, but Fan Duel said it was no good to avoid paying out the free bids. As a matter of fact, when my wife and I were watching the Super Bowl, we actually thought it was good. Upon watching it in slo-mo, however, I see it was no good.

I watched the ad on CZcams and it was bad. This ad makes the McDonald’s Menu Song a lot worse. It’s fake! I remember the McDonald’s Menu Song record. I played the song and nobody won a million dollars. That was in 1988 and it was a complete scam for McDonald’s at the time that no one won the prize.
Hate to say it and it's possible someone else has already pointed this out but one of your big pieces of visual evidence is wrong.
But before I get into that (sorry, couldn't resist), a little background on why I've never commented until now, even though I watch a great deal of your content. I've watched most of your content via the CZcams app on my TV, which only recently started letting us read comments for the videos but no way to leave one. As such, I've never had a chance to comment on any of your videos. With that out of the way (again, couldn't resist), here's why I felt that I needed to grab the laptop and comment.
You've misinterpreted a major piece of your wind evidence, specifically the video post from Gronk before the kick. It looks like he's using the selfie camera on his phone to shoot the video. A common issue with the front facing cameras is that the image will get reversed. You can tell this is happening here by looking at Gronk's jersey. The FanDuel logo on his chest is reversed, meaning that the flags on the post are actually consistent with the flags in the "live" video.
Not saying you're wrong about the whole thing but I wanted to point that out.
I'd somehow missed all the establishing commercials leading up to this one so when I saw it in the Super Bowl I thought it was just another lame Super Bowl commercial. Then until this video I'd missed all the outrage afterwards about it being fake. So, uh, good job Fan Duel. Non-sarcastically, good job JG9 for making something I literally couldn't have cared less about into an enjoyable 17 minute video that I watched all the way through. This content is the CZcams equivalent of r/HobbyDrama and I'm here for it.
I have a feeling they would have filmed two versions the miss before hand and a planned filmed possible make by Gronk. The reason was depending on how the bets went the house(fanduel) would win in the long run. They probably had way more people betting on him to hit based on who was coaching him, Adam Vinitari who is one of the best kickers in NFL history. Because if the house lost the wager, they would have lost way more than the 10 million.

Regardless of anyone's stance on I being legit or fake it doesn't explain the reason why they lead everyone to believe this would take place live during the game only to show up completely somewhere else and happening so fast screams something shady was happening behind the scenes! That said I'd say Fan Duel made plenty of money from this add!
C'mon man, y'all spent all that time recording and editing WITHOUT confirming this was kicking south or north?! The east vs west literally doesn't matter if you can't tell which direction the kick is heading into!!!
Now, that doesn't mean the ad was still legitimately live. They could've recorded the kick hours or minutes earlier in order to give a (slight) post-production window. But it doesn't mean your argument doesn't stand a chance to hold up in a debate.
(3:14) Yeah, I hate how CZcams decided to remove the ability to see dislikes, which makes the likes mostly meaningless in my eyes. Is there a way for me to be able to see the dislikes using my PC without needing that phone extension you mentioned?

How do you know which direction the camera is facing? You're clearly assuming it's facing north, but it could be facing south, meaning the directions are opposite.
Nothing about this ad made any sense before, during or after.
The ad WAS weirdly presented. Suddenly appearing/over, miles away from the event, brightly lit out of darkness, cacti that naturally don't bend in strong wind the way trees do, and a choice of camera and crew better suited to movies all added up to it looking like fiction. I'm not convinced it was, but some strange choices were made.

If he was kicking to the south then the wind is correct. The field orientation was not told. Also, the wind in an open desert would affect the ball faster than wind in a stadium with large grandstands around it.

Topical video considering that FanDuel is hyping a Kick of Destiny II video from Las Vegas... let's see if they learned anything.
The direction of the wind in the video is inconsequential if you don't know how the field is oriented... if they're facing south, then the flags will be blowing the correct direction.
As soon as I realized it wasn't "at the Super Bowl" (meaning not in the stadium during the game), I figured it was taped. There was no reason to have it live when nobody could tell either way.
Imagine going from a successful morning sports talk show to a sports gambling company.
This video seems to be missing something... CONTEXT! There's no context!
Since I see at least one mention of the Tubi commercial that apparently gave people heart attacks during the game I would like to comment on it. Specifically I want to say why I wasn’t fooled by it:
1. I was not streaming the game. For that matter I suspect most sports bars weren’t streaming it either.
2. I’ve seen multiple Super Bowl commercials that start with the announcers then swerve into the actual advertisement.
3. I’ve never seen a broadcast go straight into the booth out of commercial. Usually there’s a shot of the field, from the blimp, or of the city between the end of the commercial break and the shot of the booth.
Also, as my memory serves me, all that happened after the “switch” from the game was a shot of the Tubi logo. So the only “creative” part of the commercial is giving people heart attacks. So thumbs down on the commercial from me.
Was that Tubi ad immediately followed by an ad for a different streaming service in your market?
Because that happened where I was watching the game and it was a real mindf*ck. I probably would have liked the Tubi ad a lot more if I wasn’t confused about which service the ad was actually *for*.

@@CTubeMan Actually - now that I watch the Tubi ad again, it pretty clearly identifies itself as a Tubi ad at the end.
I think the confusion was wholly due to my increasingly agitated state during the second half of the game. I speak for all of Philly when I say this is going to take quite some time to get over.

My problem is that the Tubi ad was so abrupt and confusing that I wondered if some intern at Fox working the SB screwed up - and let's be fair, it wouldn't be the first time somebody has screwed up during a major event.
