- On December 14, SF Studios hosted a master class of A Man Called Otto On stage, journalist Christina Jeurling Birro moderated a discussion with Tom Hanks and Rolf Lassgård, discussing their respective roles as Otto/Ove in the US and Swedish version of the film. Christina Jeurling Birro also interviewed producers Rita Wilson and Fredrik Wikström Nicastro about the making of the film.
The movie is like a piece of art, it makes you cry and smile at the same time.
A man called ove is one of my favourite book.
I watched A man called Ove several times. This was the 1st Swedish film I watched. Rolf and his team were incredible. Rolf let you hate, love and empathize him. Its the story telling that gets our attention. The language is not the barrier. I told my friends and family about this incredible experience. Thank you for the experience.
😊😅😅
I loved watching the swedish movie A Man Called Ove and Rolf Lassgård was phenomenal in the role :) . I can’t wait to see Tom Hanks take on A Man Called Otto .
Both Rolf Lassgård and Tom Hanks are the two actors i love and have huge respect for in their movies 🎥. Tom Hanks is such a humble nice guy 🙂. God bless him .
I just saw the movie. I was in tears 😭
This was awesome sauce. Tom Hanks shares my birthday lol, have to love him. Love all these people. The book was beyond amazing, the film OMG. Thank you for bringing Ove and Otto to us all.
Saw the Swedish version years ago …and it’s thousand times better!
Not the same…….both amazing qualities. Don’t compare, just enjoy
Agreed! The Swedish version somehow (in my opinion) made a very cliche trope feel original. when the Tom hanks movie was just a well done version of the same trope.
I'm Swedish, and I like the Swedish one more only due to the fact that I feel another connection to Ove then Otto. I assume that only have to do with the fact that I understand Swedish and can place Ove on persons I've seen. Like they say themself, Ove is more calm which is more relatable for Swedes, and Otto is more loud which work more for Americans. However I really enjoyed Otto as well! Both really great movies, but as a Swede I can connect more with Ove then Otto
I'm Swedish but haven't seen either movie, because I read the book and it was really badly written. Are the movies better than the book?
@@Vreth6 yes. I am an American and thought the book wasn’t the best and loved the movies. Your very own Rolf Lassgard truly is a Oscar worthy actor and made what would typically be cheesy scenes seem normal and down to earth. I personally really loved it and think you would as well! And Rolf is truly phenomenal. Just wow…. One of my favorite performances I’ve watched recently.
The fact they found a place on Pittsburgh that looks like the neighborhood in Sweden is amazing to me. The book I adored, the 1st movie I loved. The 2nd movie I liked. But the original was just great. I'm an American, learning Swedish and I'm in love with Sweden since a child
Φιλιά από Ελλάδα.Καλη επιτυχία στην ταινία. Τους θαυμάζω και τους παρακολουθώ! I admire Rita and Tom. Good luck with the movie.
It's a wonderful movie ....Mr Hanks is superb
Amazing uplifting movie …loved it ❤️
Thanks! Great interview! 🙋♀️
Seems like a friendship between Tom and Rolf is maybe growing. Great vid
I loved the Tom Hanks movie.
Firstly, I love to watch Rolf Lassgard act. I am a grandmother groupie. His face does the acting and then the deprecating speaking pattern. I, too watched a man called Ove several times. When Rolf is on the screen it is difficult to watch any other actor.
I haven't seen the movie....yet. But I will....today!
Now I have seen the movie. I'll give it an 11 out of 10. And yes, some saltwater in my eyes.😪😥👌👍
Tom Hanks is a class act
How about similarities with Ove and Otto vs Clint Eastwood as a grumpy old man in "Gran Torino" (2008)..?
Eastwood grumpiness is another level.
@@beorlingo Compared to otto yes. Ove is up on that level.
Video starts at 20:30
The other great moment in Gump was when Forest beat the c*ap out of the guy who hit his woman. 🏆
Otto meets Ove
tom says he screams more in his movie but is that really true? i watched both movies in the same day and im pretty sure rolf screams more.
يا له من فيلم هراء - توم هانكس هو شخص ووك
Tom Hanks is a two-time Oscar's Best Actor for a reason. This is it!
Not in this case, Rolf Lassgård
Original Version, blows mr Oscar out of the water!
@@brentholladay3113 hmmm...
Rita Wilson is Tom Hanks wife !
Meg Ryan !! What happened to her!!!👍🖤😍🥰💛….
Web technologies are giving now the chance anyone to hold a camera, but having a story to tell is not same easy, manufacturing emotions to let them worth seven billion dollars incomes like Avatar fantasy is...still an impossible dream. Hollywood movies signed the times, some movies are so iconic, you could put them on a frame as most precious paintings because they worth same much, do you remember Spartacus? I think it worths as much as a Caravaggio painting... reminding that once, painters tried to freeze in a single frame a whole movie story and... bringing those famous paintings to life is still a huge ambition to enjoy from now on, let's give wealthy tycoons the chance of safe investments, fine arts are always a huge asset to be saved, you can bet on it. Looking back in time Oscar winning prize movies are masterpieces of fine arts in movement and not exclusively Oscar winning movies, this school of making Oscar winning movies should become multi national friends, wish you do, a Nepal story will never be a Guatemala one, artists need to express themselves
Go champs go for it, web connection is giving us the joy to become your supporters and let you know how much we need you guys, never stop believe in, never give up performing and entertain us as movies lovers, never forget audience, never let real life become a movie set because...making movies is a losers business, we are screwed guys, think about it Ok? You are the humankind salvation guys. This year the Oscar movies event have in pole position the movie based on Elvis Presley's life, how many more people do you love same much as Elvis? How many more do you know having a Hollywood kind of life so exciting like a real movie to be put there on cinema screens? Yeah, we could get busy for the next 50 years from now on and that's the main goal, creating jobs and welfare guys, young generations need to understand this parallel universe of acting and let it shine. The story of making a movie, if you try to imagine how ...movies were made back in the '40, that's the most incredible adventure ever seen, a huge opportunity for young generations to understand...the human evolution
I haven't seen this American movie. But I did see the Swedish original on which it is based. I even wrote a review of that one. Here it is; perhaps there are similar ideas in the Otto film?
Transcription of meeting with the film company's Political Correctness committee.
-Here we now have the script for a really good film. It is about an older Swedish man who is easy to identify with. He grew up in a society where there was order and where regulations were respected and there was a work ethic. He has received a share of the social democratic welfare and lives in a villa even though he is just an ordinary worker.
-Okay, but isn't that a bit idyllic?
-Just wait. The old man is a real curmudgeon. He gets angry at people who ignore the housing association's rules. Nonsense, the younger ones think, but he gets pissed off and scolds them. He does exactly what many in the audience want to do.
-But hey! This sounds like pure (right wing) Sweden Democrats! We can't have someone like that as an example.
- But that is the finesse. During the course of the film, the reactionary man is converted! His attitudes change through meetings with modern people who represent our views. The audience understands how wrong he was.
-Give us an example.
-Yes, firstly he meets a Strong Woman. Who is also an Immigrant. She comes from Iran, speaks Farsi with her children, but also perfect Swedish without an accent. And she is married to a Swede and has not the slightest trace of deviant cultural or values, except that she cooks wonderfully good food.
- So the main character is converted from his prejudiced meat and potatoes to falafel and baklava? Which proves the value of multiculturalism. Very good.
-Exactly. But not only that. She is not religious either, no Islam but just secular humanism. And unlike us shy Swedes, she is not afraid to ask the neighbors for help or to help them herself and tell her what she thinks. A free-spirited person as a contrast to the boring hunched-over Swedes.
-Wonderful. Then we have fulfilled two of the basic requirements: strong, exemplary woman, advantages of immigration and good multiculturalism. Is there more?
- Well, capitalism of course. Our main character works on the railway but there is privatization and then some young neoliberals in suits show up and fire him.
-Socialist thumbs up!
-And then we have the authorities, of course. The oppressive aspects of Swedish society.
-Stop there! Sweden is democratic! We cannot criticize the socialist welfare system, only those who abuse it.
- We arrange that and get it at the same time with an anti-capitalism and privatisations. There is a neighbor who has had a stroke and needs care. It is of course not like in reality, that bureaucrats in social care decide on coercive measures, but it is a private healthcare company that has fixed coercive care in order to bring in an extra patient that they can make money from. Their representative is a really arrogant type who is easy to hate.
-How will it work out then?
-A digging journalist reveals the capitalist care company's outrageous profits and tax evasion.
- Cheers! Then we have propagated for equality, immigration, multiculturalism and against private entrepreneurship. Isn't that anything we have missed?
-Yes guys! We have to include LGBTQ too. We must have a likeable homosexual or lesbian. Ideally, he or she should be persecuted as well. We're going to write one like this… let's see… Okay, there's a teenager here on page fourteen that the main character gets mad at for parking a bike wrong. The teenager's friend can be a young nice gay... Who gets evicted by his homophobic parents. And our main character has to give him room... This gives the gay the opportunity to show what a nice person he is, even though he uses make-up.
-Yes! All the boxes on the PC form are ticked except for Palestine and the United States. We have to mark against Israel and ridicule Trump. Is there any way to get it in?
- Well, it will probably be difficult. We will just have to touch a little extra on that in the next movie.
End for today, thanks for today.
Both great movies. Though I think Rolf does a much better job acting(and also looking) like a... Gubbjävel!... which basiclly is a yellname of a damn grumpy old man in swedish while Tom is more like an old angry american macho.
Hemska mikrofoner the voice sounds so wet in the mouth of Mikael 😂😂
Tom Hanks is greedy, the original is a classic, and not that old of a film. Rolf Lassgård performance is miles above Hanks. What an insult to the original.
