Sycamore School / Middle School Egg Drop Challenge

- Sycamore 8th graders in Mr. Schuth's 8th grade science class are studying Physics, and the effects of "fluid forces" (air, liquid, etc...). Students started this experiment with an egg in a plastic bag, placed in a disposable cup. They had to create a device that, when dropped for a height of approximately 20 feet, would allow the cup to hit the ground first, while the device would auto-rotate, much like an unpowered helicopter.
Students earned top tier finishes if the egg survived the fall without a crack, and the the device met construction parameters. Ties were broken by measuring the mass of the vessels, with the heaviest winning the tie-breaker.
We did this one, our teacher gave us some old newspaper, scotch tape and some yarn. Our group made it into a parachute. Only our egg survived the crash since the other groups haven't thought of our idea.
how do u build it?
You know that it isn't enough to truly make a parachute since the kinetic energy will still be way over that broom and the egg will crack. No way your idea worked

I think you make the case for the egg first and then use cardboard or paper and slightly tilt it while you tape it and and a second layer underneath to make it

Hi, I have a question, do these things that they put the eggs in count as parachutes?, i need to make an egg parachute egg drop and am trying to get some inspiration from this, would really appreciate if someone answered!

Heya, I wanna ask if you could tell me at least 4 materials that could be used for this project? I already have a design in mind and I need MAXIMUM 4 materials and not more because this is for my finals, and we are doing this from the third floor of the school. It would be helpful if you could recommend some!
@Marsplz In my project, I used popping paper (idk, ppl use it to protect glass), string to hold everything together, cloth as the parachute, and for the base (where the egg was placed), I used the cardboard from when we buy eggs (you get me, right?). I hope this helped❤️

I completely agree, i would much rather fall foul to the pandemic that was ravaging our world. I would rather pose a threat to my loved ones and those who are around me than wear a mask. I would prefer to go maskless and end up ill and miserable, than just wearing a mask.
