Today I'm showing you how you can build the most effective and compact highway interchange with the best traffic flow without mods in Cities: Skylines.
The intersection will serve 4 directions and has a very satisfying traffic flow.
Graphical Mods:
Clouds & Fog Toggler - Can disable clouds, distance fog, industrial smog
Sharp Textures - make textures sharper
Ultimate Eyecandy 1.5.1 - A wealth of visual settings at your fingertips
Relight - Rebalanced and customizable lighting and tone mapping
Post Process FX v1.9.0 - Enable additional post-processing effects
Dynamic Resolution - Better Graphics (only used for cinematics)
Daylight Classic - Brings back classic white daylight color
This is a family friendly tutorial for Cities: Skylines. (pg clean)

Could you PLEASE upload interchanges like this to your WORKSHOP, so that all of us could easily place it in our cities???
upvoting, I wanted something like this for a while. Steam link please.
@@deilusi if you search up for a heavy duty diamond interchange, one just like this comes up
@@deilusi check out this interchange. It was not built by him but it is this interchange. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2818236234&searchtext=Imperatur+compact+and+effective+service+interchange

Imperatur: makes a LOVELY Interchange within 15 minutes.
Me: well, let's just say that I sometimes struggle finding the single lane road at times.
Love your videos dude! Really really enjoy them always! 🙂
Haha:D thanks buddy❤️
i have one of this intersections in my city alredy, they are so cool and make traffic flow perfectly😙
Glad you gave us a way to detail it cuz I was struggling so much even with mods😂
Great 😍
There's a similar type of junction in Birmingham, UK (M6 jct 7).
It's incredibly inefficient in real life and also quite dangerous, if you're heading east on the motorway and exiting to head north towards Walsall means that you'd have to pass underneath the northbound road to join the junction just as southbound traffic are joining the same junction and continue round as westbound traffic also join, continue round merging with other northbound traffic to finally get to the northbound exit.
There's a pinch point in the junction where three roads, carrying traffic heading to different places are forced to merge at one point unnecessarily.
@@q3b26 Had to look up that interchange and yeah, that's pretty wacky.
It's not the same as Imp's though, the Great Barr interchange looks like they tried for a 'standard' roundabout interchange and because of space restraints put half the onramps _inside_ the loop instead of mirroring the outside ramps. Imp's interchange is essentially a diamond with extra reversing lanes.
Anyway, I agree about the Great Barr, that's really atypical and strange.
Absolutely amazing!!! 1st video I've seen of yours. Definitely going to watch more. Keep up the amazing work!!! Can't wait for more of your videos!!!
Love the episode, love the interchange as well, I think you need to do more vanilla interchanges like this 😍, love the music also, it keeps me from going insane 😅
Happy that you made another video. I was afraid that you stopped and I really like looking at your videos.
Nice interchange :)
15 mins to build ? I wish… took me 3 hours but glad it’s done. This really taught me the skills for playing around with road heights and freeform tool. Pay attention to the tool he’s using if you’re not getting the connection or smooth curve. Thanks for this vid! 🙏
The orange box you placed to show the middle of the map, covers the important information when you're building the ramp. There is no 6 units for 400.. then you quickly start adding more.
This gave me an idea to try and link both on ramps together versus being individual on ramps. Might have enough clearance if the loop was attached to the outer exit ramp. Of course the loop would be bigger (slightly higher?). Don't know, experiment time!
Great video. You can do lane mathmatics on the middle highway sections to ensure dedicated turn off lanes to improve things a little
I love this road, keep it up always!
Thanks!:)
It's nice that you can build this without mods, but TMPE will truly take this to the next level. You can do linked long phase traffic lights on the junctions and do proper lane arrows, that should give it really good throughput.
As for me, I'm an SPUI enjoyer 😉
it looks amazing, real compact. nice works imperatur :)
Thanks tim☺️
I love the music and this is a great video. Thanks
So simple and beautiful. This is great 👍
awesome video!! and I love the way you graphics look!!! is there a chance on making a tutorial on how to make your graphics like this? cause I would love to make my game look like this

I've been learning from Yumbl, I use roundabout parclo almost every time.
Or simple parclo if the space is scarce.
But, yeah... ymbl series on service interchange is great.
Nice yumbl builds very cool intersections!
This looks so clean!
neat interchange great vid as usual. service interchange i build - depends on my mood butparclos are always a safe guess but if building on angulated terrain i get rather creative...
Looking good and useful) thanks for your tips
Never have I thought of this. Always come here for new ideas.
Looks great! In terms of efficiency, I still think you're better off building a Diverging Diamond or Single-Point Urban interchange.
Very creative though, I didn't think to curve the ramps back in the opposite direction like that.
I really enjoy how you made the step by step clear and enjoyable. I would like to try this one out one day. As a graphic designer in study, design principles seem to apply here as well (underlying grid, consistency, simplicity, and text and colour hierarchy, etc.) I also like your taste of music
subscribed, saw something about the use of music but i like it!
Heard ya talk on the 5 builder series ya should do it more often. Love ya channel. 👍
Recently I've been doing single point urban interchanges, I really dig your style though, this parclo is cool take, I'd love to see you do an SPUI sometime
I really like it great job 👏👍
I did something similar in one of my cities. Except the ramps are all on one side. It's a one intersection interchange. The opposite side uses the flyover. It's a north/ south highway. The northbound traffic uses the north flyover and you end up going south to reach the local road. If you want to go north on that highway you actually go south and use the south flyover. Southbound traffic just utilizes a straight ramp. On and off. I had to add an off ramp for SB highway to the WB road because there a dangerous merge. The northbound side has a lane to and from the flyovers.
I’ve seen an interchange like that before. I wanna say it’s somewhere near the northern section of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia where it turns into Skyline Drive
This is one of my favorite interchanges!
Looks awesome :)
What is your opinion on this interchange? czcams.com/video/6xTyS5BGF94/video.html
Awesome build!
this is awesome!
Looks great
Genious. the one way street with the lower speed limit forcing cars to use the interchange the right way even without TMPE. Big brain move.
Could be also satisfying to see this version but with mods, I think it will be looking even more beautiful, it's incredible how detailed things will be in your hands when you don't use mods lol your a genius 😎✌️
love your vids
i love it !
Great work. I want to see more Vanilla builds
Really love your video's, good pacing, creative, informative, perfect! But the music... I find it so excruciatingly awfull, i know i can just turn off the sound, but isn't there a better sound to add to the video? Like explain your process, or just tell a joke? Anyway, keep up the good work! :)
Me, I always watch the videos muted, works fine for me. But the same video without music but with narration would be awesome.
I like the music...it's so cool... don't know what's your problem🤷🏼♂️ But everyone has a different taste in music...
@@Bambi298_LPthe music is awful
I personally didn't find the music to be bad, but maybe it could be a little quieter.
Thank you for the amazing video!
@@riganmarston761 Yes I agree, a bit quieter would be perfect!

@@imperatur nix zu danken ist die Wahrheit 😄
nice! keep going
Thanks!
this is really a nice interchange
Haha loved the "OKAAYY let's go"
I like creating roundabouts above the highway making the road connecting into the roundabout and the highway exits so traffic keeps flowing.
I’ve done that on some of my builds in the past. Took some time to engineer it right but it was a thing of beauty once it was done
Amazing
high way high way interchange. with right turns inverted lanes left turns, and then have the trafik join from left before reversing the lanes again before having trafik from the right join again. lots of lanes but no clovers
cool build!
Thanks🥰
Those beats though!!!!
You can use TM:PE for lane mathematics; you don't need mass transit for that.
I don't understand why would cars don't go through the first lights and then take left on the second lights. How come they priorize the right for left access ?
Great video and beautiful design. But I see 6 left turns. 3 at each intersection. There would only be 4 except the 2 u-turn ramps create 2 additional left turns,
Very nice. If you combine this with an inverted lane overpass it will greatly enhance it.
could you elaborate what you mean by that?
u could try adding little roundabout in both intersections i think it could work better
0:51 : makes hill
0:56 makes strongest shaped hill ever
I like diamond bc it's easy enough and symmetrical to build but I use some variation depending on traffic and zone needs
Built one of these for myself to feed my cargo airport hub on one side and my ore industry on the other, TMPE lane management really helps it as well as a couple of slip lanes on the right turns
Edit, also made the middle into a SPUI config
Great as ever
Thanks buddy:))
Great design! But one tip: you could have easily used a 2-lane road after the intersection with the arterial, which then splits into 1+1 lanes. Or use a 2-lane highway instead of the 2-lane one-way road you used know. I know in CS it doesn't matter, but IRL you would have added unsafe situations to a highway (crosswalks and sidewalks; a highway isn't meant for walking).
i guess he wanted to keep it 100% base game, since no 2 lane highway
Imperatur: 15 min
Me: Quit after 1h XD
Great Videos btw. Keep going
This seems cool!
I build a lot of diamond, folded diamond, and parclo interchanges btw, they’re so quick and easy to build.
at first, I was noob at building interchanges until I saw tutorials, I built DDI in few minutes.
@@mythicplaysminecraft wow
congratulations for the work! Now where is that magnificent airport that was at the awards?
It‘s build on the global build off map and i didn’t record the build)
Your videos are very helpful but it would be nice to have some commentary with them. Thanks for the tips.
If it's rural and/or low density zoning, diamonds/parclos but if it's urban and/or high density zoning, maybe a 6 ramp parclo but probably a SPUI
Splendid works, but can you make interchanges idea with tollbooth please, id like to look forward that
I don't build my own interchange because i wanna support the creators in workshop by subbing and liking their assets 😂
Hahah nice😛
Ooooh nice. Like a flattened half turbine.
it's the terrain landscaping that gets me...
Ohh a nice video, well we all know that is all you make, nice videos, never a dud when I come on and see a new Imperatur video, that is for sure.
Broo thanks!!
Welcome @@imperatur
And darn, just noticed now that you have a merch shop, can see next month I will have to get me one of those Noob/Imperatur mugs for sure
( Also good for me that it is Germany based, so can get around VAT here in Dänemark as opposed to the shops in UK/US )
❤️❤️❤️❤️
What would happen if you only had one entrance ramp to each hwy direction? I see you currently have two for each side.
what mod or setting gets the height and length for when making roads?
I have a question. Are there any small interchanges in the steam workshop. Maybe a partial clover or a junction like this but small. The ones I downloaded from the workshop takes up a lot of space. If there are any, please tell me.
This is basically irl the most common one i see
Wondering if it was on purpose you didn't upgrade the onramps from standard road to on ramps.
okay not gonna lie this looks cool
Yeah I think the same😄😛
Milwaukee has something similar on I-894/Airport Freeway.
I‘ll search it up:))
Will this work for left hand drive (UK) without making a mirror version?
Cool
For the 4- way service interchanges, a partial cloverleaf is about the same price as the diamond interchange, but the traffic flow is better.
If you could make any tweaks, I'd add some lane math.
When a lane splits off the highway, I think it's prettier a two lane part continues until a third lane joins it again.
Assuming the highway traffic doesn't need to turn, you only need a two way split, left and right, no straight across. Irl people do make mistakes and need to turn, so maybe you want to keep the option?
The lanes on top are fine, probably only one lane is used as one splits off (and then splits into left and right highway entry). But adding that would just make it confusing. I did see a cool improvement of that, but it used a lot of mods and precision (single point urban interchange iirc). This is much simpler to make and will work fine unless you have crazy amounts of left turning traffic.
Yes of course it would be better with 2 and 4 lane highways but i wanted to make a build without any dlcs:)
This looks like the one made in "Ciudad del Este", Paraguay, called multiviaducto kilometro 7
This is also known as a Milwaukee A Inrerchange.
Think you could make the overpass a continuous left?
Guess who is back to make my shitty day great again!
Hahah aww🥰🥰
So how large is this thing? (I wanted to comment that it takes cars several days to get through it, but that's just the strange time scales of C:SL.)
Hey just a question, is this on the steam workshop
This is probably the most practical vanilla service interchange
Did you know you were going to be placing those rocks without PLT before you started recording? The editing was probably faster than placing the rocks 😁
I think Yumble's SPUI is a bit more compact. not sure though. Still love your design :)
🥲
A SPUI doesn't work very well without mods, though.
@@azuarc good point, didnt think of that
Full clover leaf vs this one. Which is better?
At 3:24, how does converting the off-ramp from a highway to a regular road impact how the interchange functions?
I was thinking the same, might be related to something with AI picking shortest path, therefore turning left on the interchange instead of using the curved ramp. I think using mods like TM:PE to disable left-turn could help. But just my thought, haven't played the game for almost a year now :D
@ that's probably the right answer.
Because the normal road has a lower speed limit and the traffic ai will use the highway ramp instead of the additional left turn:)
@@imperatur I see! Very clever, thanks!
Why would you allow any vehicle that takes an off ramp to go straight on? The three lane roads at the end there at the top section can be turned into two lanes, only for left and right.
New vanilla city please
Yeees:D
Seems that you don't need those left turns at each end of the bridge
