- A common question I always get is "which EVH model is better?."
The answer is - neither of them, they're both different! Hopefully this quick track I threw together helps demonstrate their different characteristics. The MXR 5150 Overdrive + ML Sound Lab Amped Roots Free are thrown into the mix too to showcase different options at varying price points.
Gear Used:
Jackson Custom Shop Monarkh (Seymour Duncan JB)
Rodenberg Amplification TB Drive Shakedown Special (essentially a TS9)
ISP Decimator II
BOSS Waza Tube Amp Expander
Ola Englund Hesu 2x12 Impulse Response
All gear demonstrated at the same EQ/Gain positions so as to show sound similarities/differences.

I've owned both 50 watt EVH amps and the MXR 5150. the only one I still own is the MXR 5150. Infront of my Marshall SL5 in gives me the tones I'm looking for. I liked the EVH amps but the red channel hiss is annoying.
The pedal sounded choked off, like something covering a speaker and impeding the upper frequencies which surprised me. I’m an EL34 fan so I thought it sounded best, but it’s subjective as to EL34 vs 6L6 debates.
