I have installed hundreds of toilets in my lifetime. Today I have 3 vormax's to install. 1 is done. I have never heard of priming a toilet before. possibly to get all the air out of the trap? Either way, it took over 20 flushes before my toilet was flushing properly. I even went as far as pulling the toilet thinking my wax ring may have been distorted and was cutting off flow. It was fine and I reolaced it with a new one. Still, took 10 or so more flushes before it was working right. wtf. hope the next 2 go better.
Yes, priming just purges the air out of the trap. However, when I installed mine, it flushed as expected on the third flush. It seems like something odd is going on with your Vormax through. Let us know how the second and third installation go and if you figure out what happened with the first installation.
CHRIS D same for mine about a good 10 flushes just installed haven’t went number two yet to put it at its full potential lol, still wrapping up the bathroom renovation... it wasn’t a cheap model but I figure go with the best hopefully it will work well !
Thanks for the video. This is my first time installing a new toilet so I'm a little nervous. Just for clarification though, American Standard makes slightly different toilet designs to be "exclusively available at" Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, etc. Inwardly they're exactly the same; the only difference is cosmetics, hence the "Optum" Vomax is sold exclusively at Home Depot. See: www.americanstandard-us.com/vormax/#where-to-buy
Baby Snake I have installed the Vormax Plus in all bathrooms at my new house. While the fresh infuser is on the pricey side, it does smell great and really helps the bowl stay clean (since it’s a surfactant). Good job American Standard.
I would of applied 100% silicone grease to the two tank seals first before mounting to the bowl. Leveled the bowl then the tank. Shim the bowl if needed. Applied GE 100% silicone between the bowl and the floor so it doesn't rock. Throw that wax seal in the trash and use just a plain wax ring. You will have flushing issues later with that black funnel. Your supply line is too short. Yours has a couple hard kinks in it. Applied silicone grease to the three tank bolts and the two closet flange bolts after the nuts were installed. Replaced your wall mounted water shut off with a 1/4 turn ball valve. Tightened up the chain slack from flush lever to the flush valves. Adjusted the tank water level, yours looked too high. Other than that nice job.
I’ve owned the vormax and honestly, I completely despised it, it never cleaned off skid marks, constantly clogged, it wouldn’t siphon out half of the time, and it’s just an overall terrible toilet, I’d stick to Kohler tbh
I hate this toilet. You screw it up if you hold the handle down, which then requires priming with multiple flushes. But if you DON'T hold the handle down it doesn't release enough water from the tank into the bowl, which means it does a very poor job of flushing. You ever had a guest at your house? You know how guests like to hold the handle down? Yeah, think about it. You will need to prime your toilet after each guest use. Or else have a sign printed and installed over the toilet that says "Do not hold the handle down, and expect a poor flush." Oh, and this lemon costs a lot more than most toilets too, so it's got that going for it as well. --Disgruntled Owner of a Sub-Optimal Vormax
That's unfortunate. I personally haven't had that problem with my Vormax. However, I intermittently and infrequently encounter this problem with my Vormax: czcams.com/video/wjROmGZ51J4/video.html
This problem is that problem. It's the same problem. Caused by air in the system, requiring multi flushes to prime. Just a pathetic design. Zillions of people hold the handle down when flushing a toilet. It's standard operating procedure in many parts of the USA as well as throughout the planet. But American Standard thinks it's a good idea to create a toilet with rule #1 being Do Not Hold The Handle Down. That would be like McDonalds creating a hamburger that disintegrates if you put ketchup on it. And then charging double what a normal hamburger costs. But anyway, you did a nice install video here thanks.
Oh! I have had the same problem losing prime! We have this commode in our guest house. Every time we have a party there we have to flush it a few times after they leave in order to get the water to go down. Why would a person hold down the handle? Apparently some do. Both our toilets are the Vormax, and they both work great as long as we are the only ones using them. One thing, I had to get out the instructions again. It says to make sure the linkage to the red flapper is adjusted so it hits the side of the body. It still loses prime after our visitors leave.
@@opentrunk Never in my life felt the need to hold the handle down to flush. Due to the way most residential toilet flappers work, all you ever need to do is press it and let go. Once the seal is broken, the flapper holds itself open and there is absolutely no reason anyone would ever need to hold it.
@@Josef_R No, you are wrong about this toilet and its flappers. The flappers only stay up long enough for only HALF the water in the tank to go into the bowl. When the toilet is done flushing there is still half a tank of water that is unused in the tank, UNLESS you hold the handle down which keeps the flappers raised and allows the entire tank of water to flush.
Hi, Erik! Thanks for posting your video, it's very helpful. I am so close to buying this toilet, except I am bothered by the difference in flushing performance I'm seeing from your video and this video: czcams.com/video/uoCay5JXnn4/video.html Both of these are the same Optum Vormax toilets, yet why does the other video flush WAY BETTER than yours?... No offense, but seriously, the other flush seems to be a much "fuller" flush by comparison. Does anyone have any explanation why the flushes are so different?
The initial flush and the following 4 flushes may all be a bit disappointing as they are "priming" the toilet.trap. The toilet typically performs quite well and I seldom have a clog. Currently my toilet is flushing inline with the video you referenced.
Great instructional video. I put in 2 of these same toilets today. This vid was a monumental help!
I've seen your issue with the non flushing, but my question is, does it do what it is advertised to do, which is blast the skid marks off the bowl?
I have this unit and cant get it to flush properly, I have gone through the installation manual several times and still no luck

You probably used that wax ring with the black funnel. LOL Or one of those shit foam rings even worse.
I would never buy another vormax. Way too finicky and complicated.

+Matthew Kimmel I'm glad you found this Vormax toilet installation video helpful. Good luck!
Vormax plus more better than Optum Vormax , I just installed one , very good flushes and anything good

Erik Asquith do you have apply one year free freshinfuser support from American Standard website? Signup for free!
Hehehehehe

All these over complicated band aid engineering solutions when the Gov should just let them be able to keep it simple and flush with moar water.
