- In this video, Melderon reacts to @AsmonTV reacting to a video by @J1mmy on why nostalgia is not the driving factor for Runescape's success. Melderon applies this same argument to Classic WoW, debating Asmongold's stance.

What will I react to next?
You should react to your first group podcast with Chimmley and stuff about getting hype for classic and talking about how things turned out heading now being in Cata!
That's a really good idea @@bstoker9468
OMG PHILLLLLLLLLLLLLL!! I'm so excited to see you upload content! Much love to you & yours! Say hi to Matt for me & Mommacamp too!
Some feedback, take it or leave it: I enjoy react videos more when it’s just one person reacting. The “conversation” bounced around a bit too much and at times got repetitive with asmon and future J1mmy also reacting to the J1mmy video. I think I’d enjoy the flow more if there were a few less narrators next time.
@@gcstroud Good point! I wanted to counter Asmon's points on this but yeah I can see how its distracting
Watching an interview with one of the vanilla class developers was enough for me to see the fundamental difference between old-school (good, passion-driven) game design and modern (bad, greed-driven) game design.
Kevin Jordan is his name I believe
My first wow expansion was Cataclysm, the nostalgia kept me three days in the Cata classic lol
Asmons argument is like saying that people love Star Wars New Hope because of nostalgia.
Meanwhile it's INFINITELY better than ANY new star wars movie.
If you can't acknowledge that things used to be better you will eventually end up at the worst possible outcome.
Reverting to a better state to erase bad decisions is not NOSTALGIA.
It's so funny to hear you say "if Blizz announced a new fresh Classic Era launch, they'd need multiple servers" because there is a (fairly large) movement in the Classic community that wants fresh right now - a couple thousand and growing. So much so that there is a community-driven "fresh" experience on Classic era Deviate Delight RPPVP server. It's had its share of ups and downs (don't ask), but it's actually thriving. And, we know we have Blizz's attention we asked that the ability to transfer onto the server be turned off - and they did it! As a community, we report bots to try and curtail that activity. It's been fun, but I sure do miss you and Defcamp. Again, good to see you! Keep uploading, I'm excited to follow along. =)
Gonna make it simple... nostalgia is candy corn on Halloween. We love seeing it but nobody eats it...
People don't stick around OSRS and WowClassic because of nostalgia. Asmon is digging in on his position out of stubbornness and maybe for content.
I think the catch all argument is, "Going back for something better will be filed under nostalgia." To revert a change, is to take a nostalgic action, seems to be the applied sense.
Man, so pumped to see a Defcamp & Melderon video pop up on my home page. Miss chillin in Def's streams during classic and the HC saga. The TBC beta key giveaway where we did that MS Paint contest which was hilarious. I saw Defcamp pop up in a Diablo 4 stream the other day and it immediately just made me nostalgic for just a few years ago lol, just layers of nostalgia.
To your points on "the human interaction sandbox" you are spot on imo. During classic, my GF and I found a guild met some people we are still friends with today and we played every day. It was only when our guild fell apart right when AQ was dropping that everything changed. I switched to playing SSF HC, most of my guildmates/friends stopped playing. Then I thought I was gonna no life TBC since it was the when I started in 07 but, none of the old crew was playing so I gave up before even hitting level cap and went back to SSF HC in the vanilla version. It was a lot of fun but nothing matches when you have a solid community of people to play with and raid with.
I think Season of Discovery was/is a bad version of Classic+. What I wanted was some more quests, a bit more Dungeon/Raid content and a FEW QoL things. Not "Cataclysm lite". It has removed all that classic is.
Jimmy made a great reaction to Asmon. Hoping it turns into a good discussion online.
Glad to see another video from you. It's been awhile.
Nostalgia only gets you to dip your toes in Classic WoW or Oldschool Runescape. Nostalgia will not keep players playing. It needs to offer new experiences.
OSRS was so desired over RS3 because it was simply a better game. People did not want the old game because it was nostalgic, they wanted it because it was genuinely better.
Hell yes. Glad to hear you and Defcamp are doing well. Please send him some love for us
49:00 Since you don't play the game, you have no idea how dang funny it is when Asmon paused on freakin' Chambers if Xeric of all things, so he could say it's the same old game. Chambers was OSRS's first Raid, nothing like it had ever existed before. It was utterly unique in both appearance and gameplay from basically everything else in OSRS. Literally the most out of the comfort zone thing OSRS had ever done up to that point. And that was *years* ago. We've got so much more now!
Love your content, glad to hear everyone is well!
So happy to see you are alive.
Yooooo thanks for posting, I’ve missed your videos.
We need an in-kitchen episode, highlighting Chefcamp and Melderon's gourmet cooking skills.
Mel, so good to see content from you again! I was hugely nostalgic for Classic WoW, But playing the game that made sense and felt better designed is what got me to make the huge committment to join the Super Guild, let alone stay as long as I did. (ignoring the rewarding chance to play with You and Def, and others.) Dating that high maintenance, super-hot girl in high school was all well and good, but no amount of nostalgia would send me down that road again...
Please react to that WoW vid Asmond referred to, sounds like good fodder (tannji/Azaezl-Priest)
Yoooo, good to see ya back
Good to see you again Melderon, might even say its nostalgic ;) But what do you think about Turtle Wow, i've had a great time on that server!
Vanilla World of Warcraft has good group and raid content but one of the main reasons that it is still going strong is actually the fact that you can level one to 60 entirely on your own and farm incredibly valuable resources in the world to sell. There are more than plenty of BOE on the auction house and plenty of people find interesting ways to play this single player. Sure they still interact and that makes a difference but they don't have social or group obligations when they log in even if they do have some good interactions they are progressing solo.
Are you guys playing on Deviate Delight by chance
Miss u man. You should go back to classic HC. Ive personally played in Europe in Victory and was a f*ing blast
Do you still do the podcast about the neuro stuff
I literally went back to wow to classic vanilla for the rhokdelar bow. I never got the part I needed in molten core as a vanilla raider and when I was guaranteed to get it the priest item always dropped. BC expansion came out and I quit. I came back for LK quit again after that expansion never even heard or thought of transmog in the future so as a vanilla raider I never got that bow experience until classic. Classic came I got the bow now I only care about that hunter and not my retail one. Now if blizzard ever gave vanilla MC raiders who did original content the chance to do hunter and priest quest again I would go back.
Welcome back Mel!
The development of wow in its earlier was just undoubtedly one of the greatest games ever made. The standard of wow content has just fallen off
good to see our shaman guru again
We need a "Camping and Stargazing with Defcamp and Melderon." Bring out your science looking glass...
I always love you and your brothers videos! If making videos is makes you happy please do and we can enjoy you doing what makes you happy! Cheers 🎉!
I hate how certain classes feel, specifically mage and warrior and other classes got busted runes however the really great thing about SOD is the fact it is casual friendly which open the game to more players who don't have enough time. I think i would have preferred SOD to be like classic with a faster levelling speed and added content onto classic wow.
@31:00 reddit and the official boards are a testament to why voting is a horrible idea for a classic+. Classic+ needs 1 designer or a very small group with a unified vision of what classic+ is.
I'm one of those who love the idea of Sod and classic plus. But they indeed went overboard with it. 5-10 runes per class MAX should've been it. Not fvcking, what we have now? 30+? LOL
YO
brighter shores is not the same game though, it may be based on runescape, but it is still different in a lot of ways too, that i don't think many OSRS players would like.
brighter shores seems a bit closer to "retail" runescape, than OSRS
also, not very much of the content we currently play through at any point in OSRS, was made by the original developer (andrew gower), who is making brighter shores.
you'd really have to rerelease runescape without runescape ever existing lol
EU zandalar Tribe Classic ERA for all you Nostalgia seeking people! We are playing, Come Join us!
it's simply that the old game version is better. It's that simple.
Vanilla is wholesome. It's a world where everything matters and everything has its place and its weight. It is an eco system.
I love Asmon, but just like so many ppl already, he lives in a universe where it's simply not possible for something old to be better than new. What a silly argument.
Regarding Asmon’s point about the polling system and your idea of “nobody knows why classic is good”, if you polled classic players they would lobby for worldbuffs to be removed. They’re annoying even for someone like myself who actually enjoys them. They take a lot of time, you risk losing them and wasting even more time outside of raid, and you can lose them in raid to no fault of your own.
These buffs, however, are the ultimate example of emergent and community oriented gameplay. Without them the world feels empty, you’re interacting with far fewer people, there’s less to do. With worldbuffs you create stories, meet people, everything like that.
People have a desire to perfect things, but WoW is a complex system. Making fundamental changes to the mechanics of a complex system like this will have a wide range of unforeseeable outcomes. Reduced interaction between people and a lack of risk associated with your gameplay results in less interesting and engaging content. It’s difficult to make changes like this, people know what they want but they don’t know or can’t foresee the consequences of those changes
Its Asmons unconcious bias thinking Osrs is a bad game so it must be nostalgia.
I know he says straight up he think its great because of what it achieved, but all of his other reactions are straight up disrespecting the game.
Unlrss he plays it he will never get it.
Heyyy welcome back
