Defunct Apollo Spacecraft Cycling Between Orbits Around Earth and Sun

Some things just won't go away. NASA engineers in 1969 thought they put the Apollo 12 Saturn V third stage into a permanent orbit around the Sun. But it returned in 2002, briefly becoming an Earth orbiter (designated J002E3), then went back to orbit the Sun. It might return to Earth orbit in the 2040s, repeating the cycle endlessly until it collides with the Earth or Moon or an unsuspecting spacecraft.
Because of some complications that came up during the mission, they didn't have enough fuel at the end-of-life to put it on exactly the orbit they wanted. So, it was in a 3-body orbital regime where it was bound to return to near-Earth space through the L1 point gateway.
