As far as Auras go, it depends on your VS win count and your driving style. Before I lost my R34 card (curse you, convention, it was an A7 rank, too!), I had 200+ wins with a smooth driving style. With that I got a green aura. The more wins you have, the more powerful the aura.
If you want the speedo meter you need to get 60 wins without losing in the story mode (if you lost the record you can restart the story by finishing it again) and if you want the aura you need to have 5k(5 kilometers)

I just beat my friends Max Tuned R34 (Course Tuned 780Hp or 760Hp, cant remember) with my RX-7 thats only tuned at 640Hp (Dont have time to play all day lol). Map Knowledge is key also. If you understand cornering & practice with a RX-7, you are pretty much a top contender on any map that is not purely a straightaway. So yeah, I'd go with an FD if I were you haha
An R32 GTR is the best of the best for local battles because of its heavy weight making it good for blocking and a nice balance between speed and cornering.

When you're leveling up your car in story mode, does it matter what points you put in for power or grip?
If you don’t play a lot it kinda matters but barley, but if you play a lot it doesn’t matter because you can max each row
Yes for better turning and stuff,the bots in story will adjust to your power but not ur handling
It is better to put speed then handling in a repeating way so that you can get a equal amount of speed and handling each time
