    I have that same Nalgene bottle and Stanley cook pot. Solid gear. I also nest the cook pot inside a gsi stainless camp cup. It gives me another option for boiling water, cooking etc. Takes up almost no extra space and only a little bit of weight.

    Get yourself a small box of Lipton cup of soup$2. Get the creamy kind.. I recently had a bad cold and this stuff really helped my throat it coated my throat it's got a lot of sodium but that will also help with sore throat.. warm you up and make you feel very comfortable when you're cold.. throw in a couple packs of Lipton cup of soup creamy style

    Walmart sells blood stopper powder in the camping section two packets of blood stopping powder for like $5.. put one of those pouches in your first aid kit.. stop the bleed.. I do carry a tourniquet but it's a SWAT-T.. which is extremely compact and can also be used as a pressure bandage takes up very little room in very inexpensive

    Nice kit, i have a few that are very similar and i probably have 10 of the BCB Fire Dragoon stoves in various kits.
    I've seen some people online crapping on the SOL Survival Blanket on various kit reviews. I have them and the 2 tube survival blanket in all my kits (from SOL and Lifesystems) and they work. They're much more durable than your basic mylar survival blanket.
    I have a car kit for when we travel long distances (seasonal swap outs and gear added depending on summer, winter etc) and always have 4 of the blankets and 4 of the tube bivvies and 4 packs of the hand warmers in it in winter.
    Several years ago we got stuck on the highway for 14h during a major snowstorm following a massive pileup (multiple cars and semis blocking traffic both ways).
    Kids were young (5 & 9) so after a while they were restless and cold/hungry.
    I used 1 blanket to set up a wind break shelter off the car and boiled water for soup/tea/coffee etc.
    I also ended up passing out a lot of thise mylar blankets to other cars incl an old couple who had run out of fuel, a young couple with a 3mo old baby (gave them our woolen blanket as well).
    Those tube bivies work great with the hand warmers as you activate the hand warmer and drop it in, the radiating heat and body heat keeps you warm and comfy.
    Spent most of the night boiling water from snow, making tea/coffee/soup. Guy a few cars up also had a great kit and did the same.
    Those blankets and tube bivies work fantastic, don't discount them folks.
    Also, plan for the unexpected. My wife always moaned about the kit in the car and the extra water as "it takes space", after that night she always asks if the kit is stocked and ready when we go on a trip.

    Great video!!! I totally agree with you. You have to prepare for you, your environment, and your situation. When starting a fire is too dangerous, I use my solar water kettle. I do have a few methods of cooking, just in case.

    My absolute favorite survival knife is the Cold steel srk (survival rescue knife).. you can go with a carbon steel which is less money or for about $130 you can get the srk in sai-mai lll. Laminated stainless steel which is virtually unbreakable. Yes srK is used by the Navy seals for their buds training good enough for them good enough for me

    Really a nice set up you have there. Have you ever tried any sort of silk sleeping bag liner for that mylar sleeping bag? They are GREAT and really do add a good 12 to 15 degrees of comfort to that mylar bag, and are a little smaller than a coke can. I was totally shocked at how well they actually worked with a mylar bag, back in the fall and spring in Wisconsin. You know, cold months, but not freezing cold weather.
    If you ever look to add one to your kit, look for the "MOMME" rating. It's how they measure the weight of silk. It's how many TOTAL pounds that silk is at a width of 45 inches by 100 yards long. So, a 15 momme rating is 15 pounds of silk for every 45 inches by 100 yards. Look for as close to a 30 momme rating as you can get, as that's the heaviest and most durable silk you can get, and it REALLY adds to the comfort level of any bag or emergency sleep system you have. You'll pay more for sure, but don't be fooled and buy cheap silk bag liners, because they're more than likely using a very light weight silk, and they cannot hold up to repeated field use, trust me. Keep up the great work.

    I watch these kinda videos all the time and occasionally I find a useful tip like I did in this video.
    I've had a stainless Nalgene bottle for years and use it almost daily. I've also had the Stanley cook pot for years. Despite always trying to cut down the bulk in my different outdoor packs I never thought to try my Nalgene bottle in the Stanley cook pot. I keep a stainless cup I got at Wal-Mart on the outside of the Stanley pot and finding out the Nalgene will fit inside is great.
    Now instead of having to have two separate pouches for them I can just have one that holds all three.
    The Nalgene products are imo one of the best water bottles you can get. Especially the stainless model. I've got a half dozen of them and I really like the glow in the dark one and the tall one too but the stainless is my favorite. I've never had one fail after years of hard use which says a lot.
    That's a great idea you had, thanks for the tip. 😊

    One of your best videos! I have that Stanley pot, and a straight walled stainless Nalgene (that one does not fit). Amazon is not currently offering the 32 in the tapered, but a few places do indicate they carry them. I'll be getting one, if I can. I have the Fire Dragon cubes, but need to get the little $6 stove.

      The Fire Dragon stove is great, if you have room for a small alcohol puck stove and fuel bottle, it works really well in that capacity, can fry up an egg and warm up water for your beverage easily

    Always refining carry options for hiking or hunting. Maybe a little OCD. I appreciate the similarities, but finally decided the micro Olicamp burner and small gas canister weighs about the same when nested in a Evernew titanium pot.

    As you say knives are a personal choice - no right or wrong. But, for a night in the wilderness the Opinel #12 saw along with an Opinel #9 knife would work just fine. If you wanted to combine a fixed blade with the saw a Mora Classic 2 would be a good choice.
    I would be very interested in knowing what “knife tasks” the people who broke Mora knives were doing when these knives broke.

    • @Horde334
      @Horde334 Před 9 měsíci +1

      you have to really try to break a mora even the channel cedric and ada managed to break a mora 511 but he even admitted at that point to break it you need to do an unrealistic task and are intentionally trying to break it at that point. Now the knife that people mistake buying is the kabar usmc fightihg knife cause as its name implies that what its good for and really thats about it. Moral of the story know your tools limits and respect it but if you push it beyond that and it breaks don't call it "unreliable" cause it wasn't being used right in the first place.

    • @ROE1300
      @ROE1300 Před 9 měsíci

      @@Horde334 I agree with 100% of what you said, if one breaks a knife they are either trying to destroy it or are doing things that are not knife tasks.
      With a saw one shouldn’t need to do hatchet/axe tasks with a knife. Even without a saw one could score a stick/log with the knife then use wedges (carved with the knife) to split the stick/log instead of batoning.
      And, they could beaver chew a stick to reduce it’s length.
      Tools should be used for their intended purpose, with knives that is cutting and slicing.
      Again, this kit which, (with the exception of the knife) I liked was intended for a short stay in the wilderness, not an expedition.
      Prepared Wander said he knew of (or, saw) people breaking Mora knives. That is why I asked what “knife tasks” the people who broke Mora knives were doing.

    • @Horde334
      @Horde334 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@ROE1300 Im familiar with the wedge technique too its an excellent way to split wood safe and to reduce strain on your blade too plus can't disagree with the folding saw addition they're excellent tools and safer then an axe for the novice user too. I definitely want to know what these people were doing to break a mora also cause its kind of mind boggling to not trust moras partial tangs all cause someone miss used their tools.

    I don't like the jelled alcohol. As it burns, it spreads all over the place, It is expensive to use since its burn temp is nowhere near as high as an Esbit tab, you can't blow it out & save part of a container. Since is a supposed survival situation, I really don't care about a little smell. The firedragon stove however is really nice as it has an included windscreen that keeps the fuel tab from being blown out if it's windy

    .NOTE: FLASHLIGHTS. I do not like rechargeable flashlights for survival.. definitely need a SMALL headlamp.. for hands-free mine is a Princeton tech "BYTE" low ..high. and red LED.. very small very compact very light yet throws a decent amount of light for what you need... Runs on two AAA . I use Energizer ultimate lithiums long run time..super light works in the cold.. long storage life. .NEVER had them leak.. along with the headlamp I have a.OLITE AAA .flashlight . That's all I need.. if you want to carry extra. Batteries 3-4 extra Energizer ultimate lithiums Weight pretty much nothing
