    A NOTATION - you can spray it from either side, I saw a test years back that showed it did not matter. Its cotton which absorbs through regardless which way its sprayed. yes directions will say to spray from intake side, that would be side where the dirt and bugs are gathered. if it makes you feel better do it that way, but there really is no difference AS LONG AS YOU DONT DROWN IT with fluid. just coat it and be done. thanks

      @jeffjackson9679 Před 4 lety +11

      That would make sense as your MAF sensor is right after the airfilter and any excess oil can mess it up.

    I use a K&N filter myself, and I gotta say, it’s one of the best preventative maintenance investments I’ve made for my Jeep, noticing a significant difference in fuel economy. I was even told to clean every 50,000 miles, but I personally prefer to clean it once a year regardless of mileage considering all the filth it accumulates over time. I actually got mine drying as I’m writing this

    Good how to video. What's messed up is I've been using and promoting k&n air filter for years I've installed them on several different vehicles I've have an O2 Silverado and a 06 Cadillac DTS. I recently joined a forum for the Cadillac because it's a new to me vehicle and way out of my understanding or comfort zone for knowing how to do everything on it so to speak. A member posted a video that was very informative about how not to use k&n filters that they don't give you the best air flow. It was done by an independent source that wasn't paid by anybody. I had already invested in the air filter and something I didn't know was that k&n came out with a cabin air filter and I replaced my car's cabin air filter with it. It really hasn't changed my gas mileage per se and it definitely did not go down and like it was mentioned having a reusable air filter minus the upfront expense really saves you money in the long run.

    I'm getting typical chevy p0300 random misfire on the highway after my 5.3 swap. One thing I noticed was my new k&n looks dry white like your example. Doubt there's adequate oil on there which could let bugs and dirt shoot all up inside the motor at highway speed. I'm going to oil the outside of my cone to prevent it getting to the Maf. Theres also the question of cone filter vs k&n drop in - since most vehicles have a stock cold air system with how the ducting directs air to the filter

    This seems like a LOT of trouble to have the privilege of buying a K&N air filter. The filter is expensive, the cleaning solution and oil is an added expense, you still need a paper filter to be able to use your vehicle and the entire process from removing the dirty filter to cleaning it and reinstalling it can span a couple of days. The entire garden hose thing wouldn’t work where I live in the north where it snows and freezes. I’d rather just buy a cheaper one and toss it when it gets dirty rather than go through all this mess. Sorry I’m not a buyer. The video was excellent though and well thought out. Thanks.

      You missed the point on the Filter sir it saves you money overall, how much depends kinda how much you drive I know they should be good for 200,000 miles but i still would replace anything at 100,000 you get a cheap kit for like 20 more dollars all together you spent 70 maybe 80 maybe less depending where you live. And as a man you should have simple tools like something to at the minimum get a car battery or to get a alternator off because don’t tell me you spend extra money on a tow for something that simple you already said you didn’t like the added expenses. It does save money it does take time but I mean what doesn’t if you really feel that way then be proactive and get a paper one before you take out the KN and I personally don’t change mine for 7,000 miles and it’s usually never dirty or caused my car any problems. However i bought the car as flood damage and i got to replace the motor due to been Hydro lock. Would you recommend having the filter been replaced or just get the cleaner kit and clean it .

    Make sure not to over spray the oil cause you do not want to cause issues with the fuel sensor. Those things can be a pain to replace.

      Not fuel sensor. MAF(Mass Airflow) sensor, which can be cheap or expensive depending on the application.

    i read some places that while you should re-oil / charge from the 'dirty' side, the oil will soak through and color both sides evenly red. i just re oiled mine after cleaning per the instructions in the k & n kit and only the side i sprayed (intake side / dirty side) is red, while the 'clean side' is whitish which it turned after cleaning. i think both sides were red out of the box / before cleaning (minus the dirt obstructing the red on the dirty side before cleaning) can anyone confirm / deny whether i should coat the dirty side in oil a 2nd time until the clean side is colored red via absorption?
