A platform run 'n jump game where you control of chef Peter Pepper. Direct him through the maze of ladders and platforms to build his burgers. Your job is to give him guidance while building his burgers and to keep him away from his pursuing enemies - Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Egg, and Mr. Pickle.
The enemies are very sneaky and, if given half a chance, will try to corner Peter at the end of one of the platforms or to trap him on one of the ladders he has to use to get from one level of platforms to another.
The enemies have no defense mechanisms of any kind. But they cannot be permanently eliminated either. As soon as Peter puts one enemy out of commission, another appears somewhere on the screen at the edge of one of the platforms.
However, in an emergency, Peter can slow the enemies down for short periods of time. This is accomplished by having him throw pepper on them. When hit by the pepper, the enemies will be disabled for several seconds. When they are disabled like this, Peter can walk right over them and not be caught.
As your skill level increases, the number and direction of enemies coming at Peter at any one time and the speed with which they move, is gradually increased; plus, their pursuit patterns become more and more devious while their overall accuracy is highly improved.
Bonus lives are awarded periodically throughout the game as you reach or pass certain preselected point values. Each task or event that Peter can perform or cause to happen has an assigned point value.
The object of the game is to survive as long as possible while constantly improving your skills and building as many Burgers as you can. As you do this, each following rack of the game will have more enemies, more difficult mazes, and will in general be harder to complete.
Note: Cheats were used in the game.
This game is so realistic. They make food just like real Fast food joints, by stepping on it.
Plus the health inspectors and OSHA really would have a field day with this place. Since if this were real it would be shut down.

You have the same exact cocktail table I have I recognize every single one of those names and beat them all.
I've long wondered how would this game have been different if there had been more than the 6 levels, Peter Pepper had 15 to 20 pepper shots to start with (in line with his name, but not a whole lot), the adversary foods were more numerous but marginally dumber in seeking him out.?
Aren't you supposed to save the peppers when they come close to you when you're nearly trapped, instead of wasting them? Lol 😆
Never seen so many missed points before in my life. In cheat mode, not one piece of burger should fall without a chaser on it.

At first I wondered what was happening, and then I realised that the cheat codes were in use. The first time being for not getting caught. In that case didn't need to use pepper. The second time being for an unlimited amount of pepper. Oh well, can see many of the levels.
I think that's why he uses cheats. Some of us old arcade players never got to see the higher levels back in the old days.

You can do this by disabling bilinear filtering. In mame, go to options, then go to default system options > display tab, and then click on bilinear filtering checkbox to remove the checkmark to disable it. Then you get a clear and high quality video.

The game ought to have given the chef 15 shots of pepper to start with with the enemy foods being slower & a bit dumber in seeking him out..
I've also realized that this game is on cheat mode as well!

@@williambarnes7133 I realized it so that; you don't get any invincibility, in the real/original video arcade game machine version of Data East's 'Burger Time.' When I tried the arcade game machines version of Stern's 'Frenzy' and Rom star's 'Arkanoid,' I never made it all the way to the last level. This was during the time when I was down at; the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, back then in 1999 and 2000.

If I wanted to demo a video game, I'd play on cheats - I'm not very good at them. Even infinite lives would be boring - I'd be dying all the time and people would be raging at my clear and impending doom.
