  • How to make Aglaonema bushy? Aglaonema is one of the most popular indoor plants and it's popular mainly because of their shiny and very attractive leaves. Though they usually take time to grow, I have provided some tips so that you can grow Aglaonema plant faster. Plus, I have also provided tips to make Aglaonema leaves bigger, shiny or more pink.
    We don't get desired result if we are not able to provide them a perfect growing environment. Same happened with me and in the video, you would see how I have revived my plant and make it grow really well!
    Hope you would find the video useful. Thank you for watching and don't hesitate to ask me if you have any question! Happy Gardening!

    Can I water them with collected rainwater? I have been using that, I have pictum tricolor plants and it does not seem to be growing for sometime. I used a chunky aroid soil and added osmocote slow release fertilizer, also I watered with copper fungicide about 2 months ago, it started getting brown large leaf spots. How often you use the copper fungicide? Also I have them in a greenhouse that gets about 75-80% shade, Is this OK? Thank you

      For all of my indoor plants, I use trays or saucers on the bottom of the pots. Then I water my other plants using the excess water (after 30 minutes to 1 hour) that comes out though the drainage holes. For any indoor plants, saucers are needed if we don't want to mess with water spilling all over the floor. Hope, I have answered your question, thank you!

    Wonderful growth. D
    I have few queries : 1) which soil mix did you use for your plant in 1.5 year journey out of 2 options. Original root ball seemed to be in sandy soil mix.
    2) did you get shiny leaves dueto growth promoter sonata or because you started keeping in shaded bright light area or both.
    3) did you face leaf drop in winters. We have that a lot since winters are harsh and I have to keep them indoors to save them.
    4) what benefits do you see of using basacote in this or other plants. I see that it is slow release NPK only. So we can use the same in instant formula instead.
    Thanks in advance.

      Glad you liked it and thank you very much for your words! Below are the answers:
      1. It's already there in the video and so far I haven't repotted it. Same soil mix so far.
      >> Original root ball seemed to be in sandy soil mix.
      Correct..actually it was a newly propagated plant. Most nurseries do that. They use sand to propagate plants as there is a high chance of success. They don't do much and sale plants as it is. They feed plants through foliage sometimes. That's why bushy plants are quite costly. For example, the Pink plant which I have shown at 3:00 was very costly and it was Rs. 800
      2. For both actually. If I hadn't use growth promoter, I don't think plant would have revived so soon. Specially from the stage shown at: 4:10
      3. Happens here and there and it's normal. If it's more, there is a problem. If just 1-2 leaves, it's okay as Winter is the dormancy time.
      4. Oh yeah..I am loving Basacote :-) Perfect for slow growing plants. Aglaonema is a slow growing plant and it's perfect. It works well for other indoor plants too. Instant formula - You can spray NPK 19:19:19 once in 7-10 days. Dose - 1 teaspoon in 1 liter water. Along with that use Growth promoter and it would give amazing result. I do the same for many foliage plants :-)
      Hope, I have answered everything :-) If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. Thank you!1

      @@GardeningUpbeat thanks for elaborate reply. Only one question : did you use soil less media since you showed both - soil less and soil media.
      Infact i have ordered 6 expensive aglonema (this is my most expensive price paid for one plant - rs 500 for one aglonema variety, hahaha) from kerala which should arrive in 5 days. I am wondering what would you suggest me - should I use soil less or soil medium. Seller told me most of them are in red soil and 1 is in coco peat. And I am used to using (soil less) - sand, coco peat, compost and pumice/rice husk in aglonemas I bought locally(both red and green variety) . All my local aglonemas are doing good since transferring from clay soil.
      Since this time I will be transferring them from red soil, I don't want to give them shock. Perhaps I should use red soil mix with sand, coco peat, compost and pumice.
      I love red varieties and they are so expensive. I do not wish to lose them. Thanks for your reply.

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Soil-less media - not for this plant. But, I am using for another plant which is also doing quite well. I like to try different things at the same time :-)
      WOW..6 plants at once..he he, that's nice..Rs. 3000 at once.
      Since they are in Red soil, please avoid changing the soil to soil-less media. Or else, they might suffer and please do as you have already guessed - "Perhaps I should use red soil mix with sand, coco peat, compost and pumice."
      >> All my local aglonemas are doing good since transferring from clay soil.
      They hate clay soil the most....growth stops completely and in fact, leaves start to die one by one. Initially leaf margin turns brown/black and then slowly the whole leaf turns yellow and fall off.
      I too love all the Red and Pink varieties..but there is only one problem, they are costly..he he..All the best with your new Aglaonema. At present, I have one Pink Aglaonema which is not in very good condition....Going to fix that plant very soon!

    When I watered my aglonema root get rot very soon if i water less frequently the roots get dried out and leaves turn yellow,it's so confusing.what to do?how to knw when to water n when to nt?

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I am doubting that your soil dry out much faster...usually they don't need frequent water. I water like once in 7-10 days but it would highly depend on many things like temperature, lighting condition, soil etc. There is one thing you can do -
      They usually signal when they need water. The leaves start to droop and even stems too (a bit). The stems won't stay upright like it should be (Sorry, exact word is not coming to mind but hope you got what I am trying to say). Stop watering for next few days and wait for that symptoms..That way, you would know how frequently you should water. I do it for many plants whenever I get any doubt whether I am watering more frequently or less. Wish you all the best!
