Firewalking at Zuihoji Temple 瑞峯寺

The firewalking event at Zuihoji Temple 瑞峯寺 in Kanuma, Tochigi prefecture 鹿沼市栃木県, takes place every year on the last Sunday in May.
In 2024 it was a small festival, but in the past it was a huge event with hundreds of pilgrims.
Zuihoji Temple is unusual as it dates to the times when shinto and buddhism were blended together. The temple has a torii gate, which is typical of shinto shrines. It has a mikoshi (a portable shinto shrine) and some of the rituals performed at Zuihoji are shinto-style.
This was my fourth time participating in firewalking at Zuihoji Temple.

Co roku w ostatnią niedzielę maja, w świątyni Zuihoji odbywa się rytuał chodzenia po gorących węglach.
W 2024 roku ten festiwal był raczej skromny, ale mamy nadzieję, że w przyszłym roku wróci do dawnej formy.
Świątynia Zuihoji jest nietypowa. Choć jest to świątynia buddyjska, to posiada bramę torii typową dla chramów szintoistycznych. W świątyni znajduje się również mikoshi czyli przenośny chram, który również jest charakterystyczny dla szinto.
W tym roku był to mój czwarty raz kiedy chodziłam po węglach w świątyni Zuihoji. I mam nadzieję zrobić to znowu za rok.

Thank you! It's one of my favorite temples in this area. The whole road all the way to Furumine is full of such unique places. Have you done firewalking?

@@2catstrooper I haven't, no. Not properly. Our yamabushi (Shinto) equivalent is jumping over a fire, not the same thing! I do have a friend who does it at his temple though, will definitely try when I get the chance!
