One of my favorite poems by one of my favorite poets. I heard him read this at Rackham Auditorium in Ann Arbor back when Hotel Insomnia first came out--or was it before the publication of the book? Well, it was around the The World Doesn't End/Hotel Insomnia period. Since I spent much of my time with my nose in battered 2nd-hand copies of Henry Vaughan and Sir Thomas Browne and other old birds, I identified. After the reading I went to the party for Simic. I flattered and bored him. He was kind.
Thank you, great commentary in the video, added to a playlist...
@cosg9531 are you saying something about what Mr. Simic is reading?
This man stands in front of Shelley's brilliant light,
looks at his own tiny shadow, and thinks it worth a poem.
Then again, perhaps I missed something.
@cosg9531 Any damn fool can write, sing, draw, and paint anything; there's just a vague line between what it good and what is bad because of opinion.
Lucky you, im jealous
