    It is amazing to see the arrows you ordered yourself slowly take shape and realize how many steps of work go into
    them before you can actually shot them. Pleasure to watch your videos

    Just finished a set of arrows, I gave up on the horn as my bow is 74lb@32 and the self nocks should hold up. Thanks for the arrow videos they have been a great guide!

    The sad truth about these reinforced knocks is that if they are hit by another arrow, they blow apart and cannot be repaired. This is how I do my own arrows so I shed a tear each time a knock dies. One thing I do different is I use emery boards for filing finger nails to size and smooth the string knock and to size the slot for the horn.

      You mean splitting the arrow shaft like Robin Hood doesn't work?
      Hmpf.

    what is the horn for? I watched both part 1 and part 2, but I don't think you ever explained why you put the horn in there?

    • @longbows

      I have explained it in soany other videos I didn't think to mention it, they are Medieval arrows, that's what they used to strengthen the nock in Medieval times.

    Hello Philip! Amazing work. I have question. You make little groove on both side of this nocks. Why you do so? Thank you)))

      Thanks, glad you like it. The nock can be sharp at the base after cutting the string groove, so I take the corner edge down and also make it esthetically pleasing.

    Hello there, thanks again for sharing your knowledge and making such a nice vids. I have two questions and I would really appreciate it if you could shed some light on them: (1) You mention that the horn insert is placed matching the grain of the wood; wouldn't that weaken the shaft? (2) In part one (or maybe other vid) you use a jig to cut into the shaft and mention it is available for purchase from the website; is this still the case? --I couldn't find it.

    • @longbows
      @longbows  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the kind words. The insert strengthens the wood, that's it's job. No, we no longer sell the tool, you can do it by hand.

      Thanks for your reply. Pity about the jig :-( one more thing, just to be clear, so the horn insert does not go perpendicular to the grain of the wood (sorry if am a pain, first time I'm having a go at medieval arrows so I want to make sure I don't do anything silly).
