- In this video we use our sheep flocks performance recording data to make the important decision of which ram lambs are kept on for breeding and which go to the mart.
The eid reader is in use flagging up preset alerts to help make informed decisions. This is one of the most useful practical functions on the reader.
We head back to Carnaross Livestock Market with a full load of lambs and cash them in.

I do enjoy hearing how you select breeding ewes and rams. It is interesting how some ewes are prone to triplets or more and twins are what is ideal. Having a good set of scales in the race can make a huge difference I suppose. 👍👍😊

Got it with TGM software in Northern Ireland. The model number is APR600 👌

Great system you have there, just wondering does the software your running, sheep Ireland, does it cost much? and when you set an alert on your computer for a certain ear tag, do you have to update your reader or how does your reader know theres a new alert? Thanks
I believe the TGM software prices are on their website. Prices depend on number of ewes on system. Sheep Ireland is free for commercial flock. .€100 for pedigree flock.
Alerts are uploaded to reader by bluetooth or usb cable.
Good work David and nice set up. Are they Lleyn sheep? I had a batch of 30 a few years ago. Do you cross them to any other breeds.
Yes they are all purebred Lleyns. All lambs are purebred also for now. Might try crossing some this year to a terminal sire. Did you cross yours to a different breed?
@sheepschool365 Yeah. I crossed them to a Charollais Ram and they were supper lambs. Just found the 30 sheep took as much work as our 30 sucklers so sold them. They were great for the land.
Your lambs did well I'm meal feeding ours might be better just selling as stores🤔
It's hard to know which is right.. need to sell them early as price of stores always drops from now on.

Lose about 6 or 8 tags out of all the sheep every year. Very easy to retag and correlate tags using eid reader. problem is if they lose both tags but very usually...
How did those prices compare to previous years?
Sold similar lambs privately from home last couple of years for €90. Prices are starting to drop now as more lambs come to market...

Yes should be double tagged for the mart.
Department official pointed that out in the mart but thankfully let it slide when I pleaded ignorance...

No App version yet. Not many good performance recording apps available. Most work best via the eid reader...
