  • Do you know how to explore and interpret different kinds of beauty? đŸŽ»đŸŽ¶ We're revisiting Pamela Frank's masterclass from the #Geneva2018 Competition and we love the work that Pam and Christina Jihee Nam did together to explore different types of beauty and the soft dynamics in Brahms' Violin Sonata No. 1

Maestra Frank a spectacular master class!!! I've been to plus viewed other master classes where the professor / artist would seem to erase any flaws from the students by playing the piece themselves... This in a nutshell is all ego on their on their end...Now You Ms. Frank truly enlighten the students provoking all sensory thought.. Visually by what the composer has written which clarifies audible, emotional as well as technical awareness!!! Bravi to You both....

I'm not trying to put you on the spot here....then asks her, what does mezzo voce mean, what does con anima mean etc I would have been mortified!! I love her approach to detective work though.

This was from 2018 Menuhin competition... Ms. Frank is most notably on the distinguished teachers at the world renowned Curtis Institute of Music...

Too obsessed with the markings. German interpreters from turn of the century were much less pedantic.

The markings are there for a reason...

So we follow the German interpreters or Brahms himself?

The student can play but she is always unsure how she can speak up how she plays. She was unsure and she does not know maybe she is nervous or she just followed her teacher and practiced a lot
