First car I owned was a 309 that my grandfather sold to me for 1 franc in 97. He bought it new and had only done 36000k in 13 years … with no radio. Top spec: central locking, electric windows.
I proceeded to fit speakers and a decent sound system, then gradually stopped nannying the thing until I was confident the engine could take my youthfully enthusiastic driving. Loved that baby blue car. I wish it was still mine today.

My first car was a Lada Riva 1600 Delux, I paid £60 for it in 1987 and sold it for £250 in 1988, ironically it now costs more to fill my current vehicle with diesel than it did to buy my first car. Loving the videos mate, keep up the good work.

1st car was an ‘81 2-door Ford Taunus (Cortina in the UK) 1.6 Savoy with 197,000 km on it.
Totalled it 5 months later at 223,000 km. It was an old crappy car, but the feeling of the ability to go anywhere at anytime was incredible…and still is.
These days I’m on the dole so my current car is a crappy ‘08 Renault Clio 1.5 dci, but when it rains and the wind blows, it beats public transport by a mile.

This will tell you how old I am, my first car was a clapped-out Hillman Imp which I bought from my Dad! The first job was to drop the engine for a complete recon - even then it barely lasted me two years before I managed to wreck both the engine and the car (I was an idiot then!). My best memory of the car was when my Dad still owned it: he gave me and two fellow Police Cadets (all four of us big guys!), plus three lots of luggage, a lift from Fleetwood to Warrington. Looking back, I'm surprised we all managed to fit in!

Good to see you back at work. My first car when I was 18, (35 years ago) was a MK1 Ford Escort. Red with a black vinel roof. Complete rust bucket underneath but the bodywork was good and only cost 50 quid with 6 months tax and MOT, so basicly a fiver for the car back then. Never got it through another MOT but I got it looking better than new with loads of Tcut & elbow greese and my mums cylinder hoover. Happy days.

Another great video Gary. Well done!
So, my first car in 1998 was a silver ‘F’ reg Renault 5 GTX called Frank (name close to the letters of the reg no). Normally aspirated but with a 1.7L lump in the front. I loved how I could pull the choke out and cruise around the village at 30mph with my feet on the carpet - cruise control before it was really a thing! It was pretty quick too but I was spending so much money on insurance and fuel, that I couldn’t afford a fix when the temp gauge started to sit in the red. I wound the windows down and put the heating on full blast as hot as it would go to try and counter this, but he eventually caught fire sat idle at a T junction. I luckily had a fire extinguisher handy that I’d bought from Halfords a couple of weeks earlier but the wiring loom had gone so that was the end of Frank! Great times.

My first car was a 1994 Dodge Shadow, red. It was my grandpa's car and he barely drove it so when I got it in 2001 he only had less than 50k km on it. It was the last thing he ever gave me because he died in October of that year. My biggest regret was that I was too much of a chicken shit when I was 18 and I barely drove it, in Ontario Canada they have a three tier licensing system where you start with a G1, then go to a G2, and finally a G. I never got past G1. So my dad drove it back and forth to work because I couldn't and he didn't want it to go to waste.Unfortunately it had to be scrapped when it only had about 60k-70k km on it because the engine suddenly seized up and wouldn't release. We could have probably fixed it but by then it was probably going to cost more than we wanted to spend on it to do. The car wasn't even 10 years old at that time. 21 years later and I STILL regret letting his last gift to me go to waste...

Amazing that transformation in such a short time on a fixed budget 🙂👍
My first car was a BMW badged 1800SA Glas saloon.
Several thousand knock down kits were shipped to BMW SA in the late 60's and with beefed up suspension and a lot of BMW badge engineering, produced an amazingly, tough and reliable car. I was in the SADF at the time doing my National Service and me and that car clocked up some awsome mileage, travelling all over SA, often with 3 of my army mates and their kit on board.
Soon after I was demobbed in 83' my BeeEem was 'T' boned by a Passat Estate, whose driver locked up his brakes, just after a sudden Summer downpour in Jo'burg.
I scraped my car and bought my next love an Escort 16 double O Sport.

That’s a great job for the money. It wouldn’t surprise me if the customer came back later on, either asking if you can shampoo the carpets or touch up the paint work if they were able to sort the tears in the leather seats and small dents. My first car was a ‘95 Ford Escort 1.4 LX. It was only three years old when I brought it as If been saving since learning to drive, and well, it took a while till I finally past. I think my fondest memory was fitting a ****k off big sound system. I used to work for a Car Audio manufacturer and so got good discounts, and some of the engineers told me best places to run the power cables etc, so it was fun learning and also learning from mistakes. Only downside was having whole lot stolen, and they must’ve spent a fair amount of time taking it all as they unscrewed the power cables, unscrewed amp from back of seat, took cd changer from underseat and the sub box was heavy. So after that I learned to turn volume down when getting close to home 😂

It had four wheel drive, a skid plate for mud riding and always ran warm to hot. It was a piece of crap and I loved it. I still miss it. It's rotting in the yard at my uncle's house and likely can't be salvaged.

That’s a good job for the price. It wouldn’t surprise me if the customer returned later on asking if carpets can be shampooed or paint touched up. My first car was a ‘95 Ford Escort LX, it was only 3 years old. I’d been saving money since I first started learning to drive, but, it took me a while till I passed my test. One of my fondest memories was, fitting a ***k off big sound system in it. I used to work for a Car Audio manufacturer so got great discounts, and had a little help from engineers on how to install it, run the cables etc. Must’ve traveled all over the uk for it.

I love these Evoques, but heard they have a few nasty issues. Thanks for sharing. First car was Escort Mk2. Had a lot of fun going out in the stick and trying to be Colin McRae.

My first car was Mk3 ford fiesta 1.0. I got as a gift from my father for passing my 1st year in a university. It was not very expensive car around 500-600 Euro. It was almost 20 years ago now, but it was a much better choice rather than taking a bus or a trolley to university :D Sadly though i had her only for 1,5 years, as one idiot crashed into me and the car ended up as a unrepairable and went to scrapyard.

My first car was a 71 Mercury Capri. It was a nightmare. Made the mistake of buying a car from a mechanic. At the time needed the car for work. You name it there was a problem with it. :) My favorite memory of the car was when it caught on fire. Thought I was rid of it. Unfortunately a fireman, off duty was there and he then called fire department and they put out the fire. Rats!!! :D. Only a few wires got burned.

Honda CRX (purchased used). Had a couple of motorcycles before that. Bullet proof car. Never had an issue, and traded it in on a new car about 3-4 years later for around 90% of what I paid for it.

Nissan Bluebird, the RWD one. I learned how to wash, detail and polish on that car, how to do basic mechanics. I drove it hard but never abused it, and it served me well for 6 years and my sister 4….

Bit late on the band wagon, but still, my first war was a w202 Mercedes C-Class, the c220 to be exact. Loved that car but it absolutely rusted to bits. But have to say the first time driving alone somewhere for no real reason was probably the day in my life i felt most free. Good times...
