  • In this video I show every single time heisei godzilla, 90s godzilla, has ever shot his atomic breath, I might of missed one or two scenes somewhere, but I tried to look very carefully throughout the whole movies for the scenes, and also sometimes the number on the top right might go up, but it will look like he didn't shoot another blast of atomic breath, that is because I couldn't show the full scene of him shooting his atomic breath, to the part where he stops shooting it, so I go strait to the scene where he shoots it the next time.
    So I hope you enjoy this video and thanks for watching.

    From what I heard, one the reasons why that the Heisei era went for beam wars rather than the pro wrestling style of the Showa era was because the suits weren’t really designed for that purpose since I think one of the main special effects designers hated the choreographies from the Showa era and tried to go for a more “realistic” type of choreographies for the Heisei era. And because the suits weren’t designed for close combat scenes, there’s fears of the suits getting damaged as one of the people working on GvKG accident broke off one of Ghidorah’s tail spike in a BTS footage while in GvsMG, there was supposed more scenes of Godzilla and MG getting up close and personal (likely the Super MG battle), but the problem was that the materials for the MG suit was known for getting easily scratched or scuffed. So that idea was thrown out.
    Another possible reason I heard was that while Godzilla was dominating theaters during the 90s, DragonBall Z was also dominating the anime industry at the same time. So potentially, Toho wanted to try to cash in on it’s popularity by assuming that kids would rather see “flashy beams and explosions” than close combat that you would see on AnimalPlanet.
    Don’t get me wrong, I like the Heisei Godzilla movies, but one thing I wish for is that we had more up close and personal combat scene to balance out the beam spams along with making the fights feel more intense. The Heisei Gamera movies seemed to take note as they have more close combat scenes in Gamera 2 and 3.

    • @GSTE_
      @GSTE_  Před rokem +9

      Well the reason why they did "beam wars" was because Koichi Kawakita (special effects director) thought the showa era type of fighting made the monsters look to humanoid and like men in suits. It wasn't that he hated how they did it, in fact he based a lot of things in the heisei era off of the original series.
      At the time Godzilla was only known for men in suits jumping around doing funny stuff.
      Koichi Kawakita wanted to do everything he could to get away from that. That included drastically changing Godzilla's design and keeping it looking around the same for the rest of the Heisei era.
      He based Godzilla's new look on animals like aligators.
      So in Godzilla vs Biollante, Godzilla had the least physical combat out of the heisei era and used his atomic breath the most out of all the heisei era films.
      But after Godzilla vs Biollante wasn't successful at the box office, they chose to make Godzilla have more physical battles.
      While not having as much physical combat as the showa era, they still had a lot of physical combat, with Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla and Vs Destoroyah having the most physical combat of the whole Heisei series.
      But of course they had to limit the battles because the suits would get damaged, like for example Mechagodzilla's head breaking off during a scene of Godzilla fighting with him hand to hand.
      So I do think that the later heisei era had a good amount of physical combat to even out the use of lasers, while you could say that for Godzilla vs Biollante since most of the fighting was Godzilla's atomic breath.
      I also don't really like how they did the fights in Gamera 2 or 3. Not really much happened in either fights. Gamera grabs onto the monster, gets stabbed 3 times, is able to hit the monster 2 or 3 times and then one shots the monster out of no where at the end.
      I personally don't like those fights really at all, especially with them shaking the camera most of the time, it just makes it seem pointless to watch since not much happens.

    For people who don't know, what matters to this version of Godzilla is Power, Strength and Destruction. Basically like what actual monsters are and because of this I really liked this. It's like 1954 goji, what usually matters to him is the same thing and the fact is that ShodaiGoji doesn't use close combat at all, he only uses his atomic breath which is the same thing Heisei Gojira is doing but instead, he is using it to other kaiju's. Basically this means that Heisei Godzilla has the traits of a true kaiju if they exist, they don't use close combat because they don't need it which is why this is my favorite Gojira incarnation til this date and although he does use his atomic breath a lot... The fight scenes are interesting and cool to be honest.

      Saying godzilla doesn't get physical with his opponents because he doesn't need to has the same energy as someone who knows how to use a gun doesn't use it when they absolutely need to. I love the heisei era but the decision to avoid having the monsters fight like humans by having them spam in a attempt to have behavior more "animalistic" isn't something the heisei era did right. If they're animals then fight like animals should.
      Tigers get physically, elephants get physically. Even gorillas get physically and they're peaceful most of the time. Godzilla has more to offer than just his atomic breath when it comes to combat. He's an animal who can fight long and close distance, not a walking gun turret. This is the same issue that plagues the godzilla earth trilogy, toho wanted to avoid having the kaiju fight like humans and made them barely fight at all. Only difference is the heisei era just had them spam

    • @GSTE_
      @GSTE_  Před rokem +2

      @@Kaiju-bm4ts well that's not entirely true, the Heisei godzilla films did have physical combat between Godzilla and the monsters he fought. But it's just that he uses his atomic breath most of the time.
      So lets say that someone had a gun, what would be the most useful way to use that weapon. That would be to shoot, not to get close.
      But with Heisei Godzilla the reasons why he uses his atomic breath are mostly at first to try and easily destroy the monster, which if it does damage the monster he keeps using it until the monster is finished(aka the biollante fight)
      Or he shoots it and it doesn't bother the monster and then he has to get close and fight hand to hand with the monster, which has happened in every Heisei Godzilla film except for vs Biollante and 84.
      So I do think that they did the fights correct with Heisei Godzilla, especially considering what Heisei Gamera did in his films where he just hugs the monsters and waits until the end to shoot his fire despite being in front of them most of the fight, and not having any creative combat close to the heisei godzilla fights, despite Gamera having way more powers than Godzilla.
      But that's just my opinion on it, I personally like the fights in the Heisei Godzilla films more so than some of the showa era fights.

      @@GSTE_ I never said they didn't have physical fights period, I just said they had only 1 physical fight per movie (which didn't last long) only to rely on spamming most of the time which got extremely repetitive extremely fast.
      I don't know why you're even using the gun example when that situation involves humans, is godzilla human? No he's not. Is he an animal? Yes. Do tigers spam? No they don't. Do crocodiles spam? No they don't. Do owls and crows spam? No they don't. Look at nature and tell me the amount of animals that keep their distance while fighting vs the amount of animals that get up and close cause from what I've seen it seems MOST animals (including humans) get up and close.
      If the heisei era aimed to have godzilla act like an animal while maintaining that classic charm why have him act like an animal all the time except for the 1 time where he should act like one?. He can use his atomic breath, that's fine but unless his arms are broken or nonexistent or he can't use them period, there's no reason for why an animal like him doesn't fight like one.
      It's ironic toho wanted to stray away from godzilla fighting like a human which is fine but go on to have him fight like a walking gun turret and yet that seems to be a issue fans have with newer reiwa era versions of godzilla (outside of a lack of personality for each one except maybe shin). They're extremely slow, (I get godzilla being slow but not that slow) mostly spam and don't get physically much if not at all which makes their muscular appearance a bit pointless and I'm saying that as someone who loves heisei and the reiwa era.
      Every monster isn't biollante so that plan of godzilla's should of been swapped and used sparingly throughout the heisei era, not used as a default for each opponent. When you're in a fight getting hurt is literally INEVITABLE so spamming isn't gonna save you or be a shield to prevent attacks from hitting you at a 100% guarantee. Following that logic snipers in video games (and in real life) are untouchable yet they too can be taken out up close or far away. There's a good reason why snipers were considered annoying during wars and people didn't take them lightly once they got their hands on them.
      You either get shot from a distance or hit up close and the question of which attack will do more damage depends on the opponent, the environment, the weapons used and the area you got hit. You can't bring up gamera fighting up close as a flawed way of fighting when MOST godzillas do the same thing. If you got good durability and good healing does it matter if you get hurt up close or far away? Cause it's inevitable on both fronts. That's how fighting works, it's not something you'll walk away from with zero scratches.
      Again I like the heisei era but mostly for it's stories, it's characters and effects at the time. It's fights are good but get extremely repetitive which brings down my love for heisei godzilla at times who I love more so for his personality more so than the way he fights. It's that same reason why I love the way he fights in non film media like games or comics. He has more variety to his fighting style outside of *"Let me stand or walk slowly while I start sniping"*

    For those wondering why Heisei doesn't do much combat on screen and why he is slow is because the suits in real life were heavy so the actors inside of them couldn't do much with it BUT, they can move inside of them really fast in real life. Remember this is the 1980s-1990s we're talking about where CGI/VFX wasn't grand back then. Another is that the directors of Heisei purposely slowed down the footage a lot to provide that realistic weight-grounded feel. This is why Heisei seems slow when he can run/combat really fast. This is proven as more Heisei films came out, Heisei did more physical combat.

    • @GSTE_
      @GSTE_  Před měsícem +1

      While this is somewhat true, it mostly comes down to what the film makers wanted. They could have had him jump around like the showa era, but they didn't think it looked convincing.
      Also as the Heisei Godzilla films went on they had more physical combat, with films like Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 2 and Destoroyah having more physical combat than a lot of the showa godzilla films. While films like Godzilla vs Biollante have no physical combat at all.
      As for the suits being really heavy, yes this is true, but the suit actors in real life move incredibly fast. The film makers slow down the footage a lot in order to give the monsters weight.

      I would have appreciated a little more close range. Take a scene from Ultraman Tiga for example, specifically, the episode with Silvergon.
      Silvergon doesn't really have a beam weapon, his opponent Gagi II on the other hand does.
      Gagi II however only really uses his beam once and that's it. Most of the fight is then Gagi II using the whips on his claws against Silvergon.
      Even though Gagi II merely existed in that episode to be fodder for Silvergon. I say Gagi II still put up a decent fight before Silvergon killed it.

      yeah, the only monster he didn't do hand to hand combat with was with biollante, which is why I don't really like the fights in that film as much as the others, well that and all of godzillas enemies are too weak.
      But in godzilla vs mechagodzilla and vs destoroyah it had a good amount of physical combat. With them being some of the most brutal fights in the godzilla franchise. And one of the only times he used his tail to attack a monster, as well as punching a mechagodzilla behind his head while he was trying to get up.
      So if you want more of an equal balance of atomic breath and physical combat I would recommend godzilla vs destoroyah, or godzilla vs mechagodzilla even though it has a lot of atomic breath, it does have some of the most physical combat in the heisei era.
      But if you don't want "beam spamming" the whole time from godzilla, I wouldn't recommend godzilla vs biollante's fights, since not only did godzilla never do any physical attacks to biollante, he also used his atomic breath more times than he had ever had in the franchise.

    i wish biogoji used more physical attacks it just makes him look weak like his only attack is atomic breath and that's not what they wanted the audience to think, i know that the suit is bulky and biolante doesn't really have that much mobility at all but they could have shot a scene or two where Godzilla crushes the tendrals with his hands or break it's jaw or intersept the spear thingy and grab it from the side, it's way better than make him use his atomic breath over 30 times.

    Heisei Godzilla's Atomic Breath wouldn't be a match for Legion's shield

    • @GSTE_
      @GSTE_  Před 10 dny +1

      Legion's shield was only shown to be effective against Gamera's fireballs because Gamera would take a while to charge them up and shoot at a very far distance.
      If this happened Heisei Godzilla would find a way around it and completely destroy Legion in a single blast.
      This is also assuming Legion's shield could block Godzilla's atomic breath which is incredibly fast.
      Also SpaceGodzilla had a shield which could reflect his atomic breath, yet Godzilla was able to trick SpaceGodzilla and shoot him multiple times where he couldn't block it.

      Thanks for watching and I hope you liked it even though I missed a few things.
      Also I would consider the atomic breath in number 15 of vs mechagodzilla to be an atomic breath since the same thing happened in 1995's vs destoroyah where godzilla did a nuclear pulse and he shot blue atomic breath twice. The only difference is that in vs mechagodzilla it was a little see through because of how they decided to do it. But since it came from his mouth and it looked basically identical to his atomic breath, I consider it to be an atomic breath blast.
