    Always get a kick out of people talking about how slow the boot up time is if it takes a couple of minutes.I remember a time you turned your computer on went to make a cup of coffee and eat a piece of toast step outside had a smoke checked the paper all before windows booted. If it was already up as you sit down you say "Wow that was fast something must be wrong" hit control alt delete start all over again.

      I mean, there also was a time when it was faster to get to point A to point B while fast pacing instead of using the first cars. Different times, different standards.

      I had a different experience with Windows 98. I don't know exactly why or how but the boot time was not more than 15 seconds. And I think 3.1 was not really different.

    This is a good idea mostly to install tiny 7 on disk on modules connected to usb temporarily to then plug into thin clients, servers and so on when all your optical drives are dead or just not available! That and some disk on module drives are too small for traditional setup since that requires a temporary swap file to work. I speak from experience with my own nlited XP pro SP2 installs. I am able to do traditional boot from CDROM to ssd/flash/hdd installs with that custom distro but it is only 134mb for my nano XP and 168mb for my micro XP nlite distros. I can install those onto a 256mb and 512mb flash or dom on thin clients. Tiny7 will need a 4GB disk so my HP T5740 thin clients with 4gb flash and 4GB ram will work. Thankyou for your informative vids! I will try the win to usb app to test this way of installing. BTW, as you got that disk size error, the first thing that popped in my head was edit the win to usb ini or config file to force install to a smaller drive like nLite does.

    Every time I think about this OS it raises more questions. Since the requirements are super low, could you theoretically run this on a PPC mac assuming you have a faster G4/G5 and enough ram to run the OS with the VM? Imagine running windows 7 on a G4 or G5! It won't be fast but you'd probably be the first to do it.

    • @ShinyElGhosteo
      @ShinyElGhosteo Před 7 lety +2

      Windows can be installed on a PPC Mac but only through the use of a VM
      because of the architecture difference. Not sure if this specific
      version can run though. I know most G3s and up can run XP and many XP
      computers can run 7 and 8 so it might work. might.

    For me the route for fixing WinToUsb disk space error was C:\Program Files\Hasleo\WinToUSB\bin
    The one that you said works if you havent opened the program (the one in the x64 folder). After opening it for the first time the one that works is this one, al least for WinToUsb v3.9.

      Hi, Just installed it on a USB drive,
      1..Cannot get it to work on USB3 Port at all.
      2..Works on USB2 OK (using a USB3 or a USB2 Drive).
      3..I could not get it to work if using a USB Hub, It needs to be a Master
      USB Port, so if you PC has lots of USB ports, some of them could be Hub
      ports but some of the will be master USB's.
      4..After install and setup, installing the drivers for MoBo and LAN it's 1.99GB.
      5..Booting from the USB Drive in a USB2 port takes 53 seconds to fully load windows.
      6.. Even after it's fully setup, it will NOT load from a USB3 Port at all, Just a BSOD screen.

    I'm curious how well this works, having messed around with this in the past I found the following issue, when you install Windows 7 the install is customised with drivers according to the host computer, when putting the USB in another machine and booting you'll often get BSOD as the hardware has changed. Also most machines use UEFI now which is another whole problem.

    • @TooSweaty4U
      @TooSweaty4U Před 7 lety

      You would need to use sysprep before shutting down to make it bootable in different hardware.
      You could also use rEFInd to boot from UEFI.
      not sure how well it would work in practice anyways

    Hi There, I love the video. Very self explanatory if I follow it.
    My problem is, I am doing what you suggest by going from one NTFS file system on one thumb drive to another NTFS Thumb drive that I'm trying to install the running OS onto. The problem is it keeps on asking for a USB driver that doesn't come with the Win 7. The only option to 'browse' is the X drive.
    I'm running a windows 11 system that I bought in 2019, so I understand the hardware wasn't available then.
    Is the install script looking for the USB drives on my Laptop do you know?
    I'd dearly love to get Win7 onto a memory stick as I need IE for a work app, that uses IE as the interface.
    The fix that has been bought out is absolutely useless. So this would be a godsend.
    Thank you.
    You're very good at what you do.
    Alternatively, you dont know where I could download a working image to put on a memory stick do you?
    Thanks again
    Mark

    you don't need a pc that can boot from USB you can use Plop Linux to boot USBs on a computer that doesn't support it
